My son has gone on the march

funkadelic · 13/09/2025 10:59

Hi, have been on here years but only lurk, don’t post. But today is the day.
I am in bits. My 22yr old DS is in London on this march. I am shaking and utterly appalled. We differ on politics massively and have done for some time. I work in education, have travelled and am bit of a lefty hippy but to be honest it’s becoming more about values and morals. He is fully immersed in the manosphere algorithm and I’ve always thought he is exploring himself and things and have chats about why he has the opinions he does and try and understand his point of view. I try not to belittle him but try and get him to critically think about things.
But this I can’t deal with. I am so upset that my son has gone to this, and that it is something that is so far away from me and my values, something that I thought I had instilled in him as well.
I am totally aware that it’s triggered embarrassment but that is my issue and I’m not putting that on him. He is still my son and I love him and his passion and interest in the world, just in something I believe is so wrong and makes me sad.
Please talk some sense into me.

“Something else I don't understand is that the majority of people in these boats are men aged between 18 - 34, and that we seem to be directing most of our attention and focus towards helping men. Why?”

The people the small boats are self selecting and tend to be men because they are often the ones who are the targets for persecution in their home country. Men are possibly more willing to take the risk of the hazardous journey ahead of their families. They may be reunited later.

I think the men on these boats are just out for themselves. I have seen news footage where they deliberately shoved a woman out of the way so she couldn't get on the boat and another clip where a man had 2 children, one on his shoulders, I think his wife was with him as well and the men wouldn't let them on either. The children looked really distressed. These crossings have to stop.

Only an eejit could think using the eighth letter of the alphabet twice was a clever secret code. We wrote down better codes in a tent in the garden when we were primary age kids. 🙄

Do you remember that guy who went to an "Immigrants welcome" march with a clipboard, looking to sign people up to house an immigrant? Every single protester was a NIMBY. A million and one reasons why they couldn't actually have an immigrant in their home. Oh no. But it's okay to shove them in hotels near everyone else.

And for everyone on this thread who are pro illegal migrants, you'd have an entirely different view, if the house next door became an HMO, and foreign men (from countries where rape isn't a crime), were following your daughters home from school. Don't tell me you'd be okay with that, because I DON'T BELIEVE YOU

Edited

The house next door (but one) to my last house WAS an HMO. No idea who lived there, never saw or heard anyone. My adult child was living in an HMO for nearly a year, what's with the prejudice?

So what does it actually do then? I mean in today’s context what is this hidden reference actually going to accomplish? Were all the nazis going to sit a home watching the tennis until they saw this picture of an 88 but calling them to arms? I bet somewhere there’s a TFL advert in the archives using the exact same bus route in publications. Wonder why nobody is accusing the Mayor of London of using hidden Nazi codes..

Check out Reddit - lots of information on there. The number 88 is banned on sports shirts for example on some teams.

GiraffesAtThePark · 13/09/2025 16:43

I’d go on a march about freedom of speech as it is a concern but I hate the left doesn’t care about this issue and don’t want to go on a march organised by far right. It’d be great if there could be a march supported by a plurality of political leanings. I just feel going would come across as believing in far right issues.

PollieDarton · 13/09/2025 16:43

CantCallItLove · 13/09/2025 16:41

Who is saying that and why would they? I'm sure neo-Nazis have many ways to communicate and we can see how they organise and rally together on days like today. The bus picture is a nasty little wink to those who know, not their sole means of contacting one another.

So what is the actual purpose of it in the context of today’s march then? Seems a bit of a pointless wink if those who know already know.

OCDmama · 13/09/2025 16:44

@Everythingwillbeokeventually44 if the march is about free speech there'll be a good focus on protesting the hundreds of arrests of peaceful Pro-Palestine supporters last weekend, right?

.....right?

Clarabell77 · 13/09/2025 16:23

Have you seen the state of the thugs and morons on the march? Most people would be a little bit anxious about their son associating with a mob like that.

What a cliché
3 million people there (according to the police) and they are not all "Thugs and Morons".
A typical blinkered, superior, lefty reply.
This is why we are where we are.

^Exactly. Ridiculously OTT. And I hate the way VAWG is being used by Tommy Robinson and others as a cynical ploy to provoke this backlash against asylum seekers. They really don’t care about women and girls.

Stephen Yaxley-Lennon has been trying to monetise this march by selling merchandise and asking for donations. Where the latter will go he doesn't say- probably another five star trip to Cyprus for him when he says too much and his presence in the UK gets a bit hot, I'd wager.

A great turnout. 🇬🇧❤️

Whats that poem:

"When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."
(attributed to Sinclair Lewis)

Your son thinks for himself that’s what you wanted, right? Or you meant ‘thinking for himself’ meaning thinking like you?. Your son seems sensible. If everything was well with politics and values the left has been pushing so intensively over these decades there wouldn’t be such marches. Time to reevaluate your values and think why such reaction to what’s going on, where things have gone wrong. Extremes on both sides arise as a reaction. Wishing your son well and all the best in his life.

Because they are racists. You’re welcome

racists? thats is such an oversimplistic view of this issue. How does that fit with non white, or non christians also agreeing that there is too much immigration? That its about numbers not race. Yes there is a minority of racist people everywhere, but you cant ignore the view of non racist genuinely concerned people by calling everyone racist. Its sooooo childish and just serious virtue signalling.

cardibach · 13/09/2025 16:47

shuggles · 13/09/2025 16:20

They're not all sex offenders, though one of the issues is that some of them are from cultures in which certain behaviours that are acceptable there, that are not acceptable here. I saw one incident recently in which one man had started groping a woman in public, and it became evident that this was something he thought was normal. I'm not sure why we are now deciding as a society that this is somehow acceptable.

Something else I don't understand is that the majority of people in these boats are men aged between 18 - 34, and that we seem to be directing most of our attention and focus towards helping men. Why? Given that women are the main victims of conflict and war, why are our humanitarian efforts disproportionately directed towards helping men and not women?

Edited

We aren’t deciding SA is acceptable. It should be condemned and dealt with by the law (which it mostly isn’t, we’ve basically decriminalised rape with the legal response to it). Some of us are able to see it’s not just an immigrant problem. Public groping is absolutely not common (or condoned) in any of the Muslim countries I’ve been to, incidentally.
I don’t believe you ‘don’t understand’ about why it’s mainly young men. It’s been explained everywhere repeatedly.

I don't know why you're having so much trouble understanding this. Maybe if you think of it as like an in-joke among racists and neo-Nazis. A little thrill they get from putting their thinly-veiled Hitler references out in the open. Perhaps it's all coming as brand new information to you today, but I can see other posters have directed you to more reading you can do if you're really struggling to get the concept.

Satisfiedwithanapple · 13/09/2025 16:48

HPFA · 13/09/2025 16:29

We don't call people with "concerns over immigration" far right.

We call preople who want to deport legal citizens of the UK just because their family origins are in the sub continent "far right" Thats now the stated position of a British MP.

We call people who say Black women are intellectually inferior ( as Charlie Kirk) did "far right".

If you agree with either of those positions then you're far right too.

I don’t know who ‘we’ are.

But definitely on mumsnet there are screams of racism for concerns about immigration. Quite clearly black women are not inferior and British citizens should not be deported.

Personally I am anti-extremism. I would argue that extremism is not respecting the views and rights of other citizens. So lefties who scream ‘racists’ at anyone who doesn’t vote labour are extremist. People who shoot or threaten those they disagree with are fascists. People who want to deport anyone with certain heritage are fascists.

All this ‘counter-racism’ marching that is being held up as the ‘good’ side has the feeling of extremism to me. Arguing for entirely open borders is an extreme position to take. I suspect that both sides have their element of fascism. It’s just the racists are more blatant about it.

Virtue signaling to whom? News just in , this is an anonymous forum. Nice try though 👍

I've got some bad news for you about TfL

Why’s that ‘bad news’. I know it’s a bus route. I just don’t believe it was by chance that SYL decided to take his flag there for a photo.

Jakers you can't parent adults as to the company they keep. How pompous.

Um…I’m not. It’s a fairly common idea, that people are judged by the company they keep. The saying ‘if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas’ isn’t a public information broadcast to prevent infestations either.

The Met police have estimated 110k Unite the Kingdom marchers, not three million.

They've also reported that the UTK marchers are throwing missiles and assaulting police officers.

If he’s rejected the Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes and embraced more of the Charlie Kirk stuff, he’ll be fine.
