My son has gone on the march

Hi, have been on here years but only lurk, don’t post. But today is the day.
I am in bits. My 22yr old DS is in London on this march. I am shaking and utterly appalled. We differ on politics massively and have done for some time. I work in education, have travelled and am bit of a lefty hippy but to be honest it’s becoming more about values and morals. He is fully immersed in the manosphere algorithm and I’ve always thought he is exploring himself and things and have chats about why he has the opinions he does and try and understand his point of view. I try not to belittle him but try and get him to critically think about things.
But this I can’t deal with. I am so upset that my son has gone to this, and that it is something that is so far away from me and my values, something that I thought I had instilled in him as well.
I am totally aware that it’s triggered embarrassment but that is my issue and I’m not putting that on him. He is still my son and I love him and his passion and interest in the world, just in something I believe is so wrong and makes me sad.
Please talk some sense into me.

Because working would only strengthen their claim to stay in UK.
There is already a "black economy" without encouraging any more undercutting of wages.

You can't have it both ways,.

So you don't want them contributing to the 'pot' then? Not sure why you were complaining about it.

We do have enough of our own problems here but I feel like immigrants are taking the flak for them. The housing problem has more to do with council houses having been sold off and very few built to replace them…. Housing stock being sold to overseas investors rather than to people who actually live here (which is, frankly, outrageous)… Air bnb should just be outlawed, as far as I’m concerned. The state of the nhs is down to underfunding…and hasn’t been helped by the amount of people we lost after brexit. The state of this country generally, outside of things outside our control, is down to government mismanagement. Ever-increasing water bills in this day and age of polluted waterways up and down the country…and there’s nothing we do about it. We’re paying for this shit and we’re paying people who don’t live here and don’t give a toss about us. Everything has been sold off and they have us over a barrel. The shit was always gonna hit the fan and illegal immigrants are a convenient scapegoat. Before them, people on benefits were taking the hit.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, the country is being robbed blind. Aside from the ppe pisstake, randoms are being paid over £300 a day just to rock up to the House of Lords. There they are able to eat discounted gourmet meals because God knows they need the help. 32 year old Charlotte Owen is one such random. Who the hell is she? Who knows. But she sure as hell has a good gig.

Then you have the likes of Esther McVey claiming tens of thousands of pounds of taxpayers money to rent a london flat, despite having a property in London anyway. The legal ways in which MPs have taken the absolute piss are no doubt myriad…and they just, largely, get away with it. Like Jeremy Hunt getting out of paying stamp duty by purchasing seven properties at once. But yeah, let’s all just point he finger at illegal immigrants who, incidentally, have no way of getting here legally.

Yep, this ^. Unfortunately people always kick downwards when times are tough.

Just watched a live video from London and surprise, surprise it's the lefties causing trouble and currently has the most policing.

The Amy Winehouse one, I think.

You don't believe anyone should have sincerely held beliefs then?

Of course they can but that shouldn’t preclude the ability to understand that others may hold different opinions and that they may be equally valid.

It is a trait of many left leaning types to think their views are in some way sacrosanct.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 13/09/2025 13:32

It was ever thus. Young people have different tastes and opinions to their parents!

50 years ago it was about rock and roll and drugs.

Now that today’s parents are fine with that cos that’s what they were doing when they were young, our young people have naturally found something else to horrify the older generation- whether it’s right wing politics on the one hand or trans rights and the idea that you can become a woman by identifying as one, on the other.

You don’t think immigrants have “human rights”?

Since when has having fast wi-fi or feeding your child Chicken Nuggets been a human right ??

Not that one again

Is that really the only example you can come up with

Ask the Batley teacher who is still in hiding.

I was asking a particular poster. Several times. They have yet to reply.

Your reply suggests that you believe every Muslim immigrant is an extremist. Which is, obviously, not true.

Why not - it's true !

I feel so sorry for you OP. I had a similar problem with my mother during Brexit. She was passionately pro, and I was against. I found it very difficult to speak to her after she had "won", becuase I feared the consequences of the decision and what it would do to divide our country and our continent. I felt sick and betrayed.

After a couple of days cooling off after the result, I decided simply never to discuss it, and nearly 9 years on that has worked well. We used to watch the news together, but now I make excuses not to, or change the subject and try not to get drawn into any ranting (hers, or mine!).

I have accepted that her views will never change and she's entitled to hold them. Conversely, I am entitled to disagree and not to have to listen, or to engage when the subject comes up. This works really well.

With time, I hope you can come to a similar arrangement!

you couldn’t make it up!

Well you could, because she did.
Nobody is saying only Palestinians should live in Gaza, just that those living there shouldn’t be starved and bombed out of existence.
And nobody is advocating for open borders in Britain.

Migration has absolutely benefited our country and there is absolutely no doubt about that.

I don't think people are denying that. I think the majority of people would like to see it controlled rather than letting thousands come in a short space of time, when we don't have the housing or other infrastructure to cope.

Thank you. I really try to be. He’s not completely lost, he thinks the whole Andre Tate thing is crap, and has seen the light about Trump thankfully 😅 but he’s totally caught up with this with some mates. He’s got some fab traits, loyal hardworking and sensible at times! He wants a family and is kind and really sensitive, he’s just so muddled about this whole thing. His best mate growing up was a Muslim boy who’s Dad was an immigrant! I just can’t get him to see it. He’s totally on the ‘protecting women and girls’ crap and I’ve tried, showed him actual statistics etc of violence against girls but he’s just not seeing it, or maybe it’s because it’s me. He will be super upset deep down that I am so upset but I think it will come out as anger towards me.
I can blame so much on the pre frontal cortex rewiring but I just can’t with this!!

I do find the 'protecting women and girls' thing a bit tricky. Yes, of course females are more vulnerable from sexual attacks. I find it bloody annoying that men are being called on to do the protecting. It makes women seem weak and unable to protect themselves (which they may find hard to do, of course, from a physical point of view). I don't want to be protected by a big, strong man. I want men to stop blooming doing it in the first place. I am no more fearful of an attack from an asylum seeker than I am from any man.

What did the Romans ever do for us?🤣🤣🤣🤣.
I'd think you'd know that line.
