My son has gone on the march

Hi, have been on here years but only lurk, don’t post. But today is the day.
I am in bits. My 22yr old DS is in London on this march. I am shaking and utterly appalled. We differ on politics massively and have done for some time. I work in education, have travelled and am bit of a lefty hippy but to be honest it’s becoming more about values and morals. He is fully immersed in the manosphere algorithm and I’ve always thought he is exploring himself and things and have chats about why he has the opinions he does and try and understand his point of view. I try not to belittle him but try and get him to critically think about things.
But this I can’t deal with. I am so upset that my son has gone to this, and that it is something that is so far away from me and my values, something that I thought I had instilled in him as well.
I am totally aware that it’s triggered embarrassment but that is my issue and I’m not putting that on him. He is still my son and I love him and his passion and interest in the world, just in something I believe is so wrong and makes me sad.
Please talk some sense into me.

Hahaha are you SERIOUS? The problem is he DOESN'T have his own mind! He's being fed absolutely shit by social media algorithms.

But you could say that about those who support any cause couldn’t you? I mean, some of the “queers for Palestine” were stunned when they were told they’d be killed or imprisoned in Palestine for being gay. And the protesters who couldn’t tell you from which river to which sea. It seems a lot of people are being fed shit by online algorithms.

There's an article in the Mail today about how asylum seekers/migrants/illegal immigrants (they don't seem to know what they are) are being housed in ordinary streets in ordinary towns/villages. People don't seem to want that either.

Exactly - we don't want any illegals here who haven't contributed to the "pot".

We have enough problems looking after our own citizens.

apricotcobbler · 13/09/2025 13:22

They use dodgy lawyers to yell about their "human rights" being compromised. In fact some moan about anything and everything.

Oh dear, you might want to do some fact checking

Have you seen the hotel protests? Who were the ones being vocal?

2dogsandabudgie · 13/09/2025 13:26

BurntBroccoli · 13/09/2025 13:08

Of course it’s aimed at the Government. The right (via right wing media) have been trying to topple Labour since July 2024.

It’s funny we didn’t see protests at hotels and organised marches from 2023 when immigration soared due to Brexit and Johnson’s policies.

I think it's more to do with the small boat crossings and Labour's promise in the run up to the GE that they would "smash the gangs" and "take back control of our borders" . What's happened, more than 50,000 migrants crossing in small boats this year. When you have over 1,000 migrants crossing in one day and they suddenly have to have accommodation found for them of course that's going to have an effect on local communities. This country is in a mess.

OhNoNotSusan · 13/09/2025 13:26

op it is a phase, it is his AGE
my own DD went on a protest at that age.
it wasnt the same one and luckily she has stopped going on protests.
some youngsters dont even know what they are protesting about, Rent a riot!

That's because they are not allowed to work for around two years I think it is.

Where are the far left marches?

A counter protest to the far right is not necessarily far left. There's a whole middle space of right, centre and left.

Antifa will be putting in an appearance soon, I am told.

And it's "you" not "we".

You should be proud of him for standing up instead of sitting on his arse and grumbling about the state of the country like so many are doing. I would have been there but i have a broken ankle so it is not practical but i have a youtube stream on and im cheering them all on from here.

Wow. Karma.

Immigrants who integrated and didn't foist their culture on the host country.

Like the Romans, the Danes or the French…

Nousernamesleftatall · 13/09/2025 13:27

I wish people would wake up that the left and the right are being used by the people at the top to divert attention away from them. If people are arguing with each other they are not looking at what the government are doing. They want mass illegal immigration, they could stop it tomorrow but they won’t. They will use it to divide and conquer. Mass immigration is never a good thing and that is why in the past and present countries go to war to protect them. I don’t blame the immigrants, they are just pawns in the game.

I absolutely did not vote for Brexit. Leaving the EU was where all this madness started. I would just like the British people to be put first for once instead of tiptoeing around in case we upset 'minorities'. Just like America First, i believe in the UK we should be British first. We have enough of our own problems here without trying to solve other countries problems. If that makes me a terrible human being then so be it but that is how i feel today.

We do have enough of our own problems here but I feel like immigrants are taking the flak for them. The housing problem has more to do with council houses having been sold off and very few built to replace them…. Housing stock being sold to overseas investors rather than to people who actually live here (which is, frankly, outrageous)… Air bnb should just be outlawed, as far as I’m concerned. The state of the nhs is down to underfunding…and hasn’t been helped by the amount of people we lost after brexit. The state of this country generally, outside of things outside our control, is down to government mismanagement. Ever-increasing water bills in this day and age of polluted waterways up and down the country…and there’s nothing we do about it. We’re paying for this shit and we’re paying people who don’t live here and don’t give a toss about us. Everything has been sold off and they have us over a barrel. The shit was always gonna hit the fan and illegal immigrants are a convenient scapegoat. Before them, people on benefits were taking the hit.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, the country is being robbed blind. Aside from the ppe pisstake, randoms are being paid over £300 a day just to rock up to the House of Lords. There they are able to eat discounted gourmet meals because God knows they need the help. 32 year old Charlotte Owen is one such random. Who the hell is she? Who knows. But she sure as hell has a good gig.

Then you have the likes of Esther McVey claiming tens of thousands of pounds of taxpayers money to rent a london flat, despite having a property in London anyway. The legal ways in which MPs have taken the absolute piss are no doubt myriad…and they just, largely, get away with it. Like Jeremy Hunt getting out of paying stamp duty by purchasing seven properties at once. But yeah, let’s all just point he finger at illegal immigrants who, incidentally, have no way of getting here legally.

NetZeroZealot · 13/09/2025 13:29

OP, I would feel the same as you.
As others have said you need to keep discussing the issues with him.
Ask lots of open questions.
Ask him why he thinks this, who he’s heard it from, what they are worried about, what are the causes and solutions.
Let him know you disagree but try not to impose your views on him.
Hopefully he is clever enough to figure it out for himself.

“We”? You are perfectly entitled to your point of view, we all are, but “we” is one hell of a stretch.

Protecting women and girls ‘crap’ is a bad thing now is it? Okay. I see you. You shouldn’t self-hate but whatever.

You’re the second person who has deliberately misinterpreted a perfectly clear statement. The poster wasn’t saying protecting women and girls is crap. She was saying the suggestion these particular people are at all concerned about protecting women and girls is crap. She’s right. They are weaponising it and I’m heartily sick of being used. I don’t suppose any of them have called out the racially aggravated rape of a young Sikh woman, have they?

Phobiaphobic · 13/09/2025 13:29

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2025 13:13

For the third time, please would you advance your argument. How is a 6% minority threatening British culture? I would like to know.

Ask the Batley teacher who is still in hiding.

apricotcobbler · 13/09/2025 13:29

DuncinToffee · 13/09/2025 13:26

Because working would only strengthen their claim to stay in UK.
There is already a "black economy" without encouraging any more undercutting of wages.

Arrivist · 13/09/2025 13:27

Wow. Karma.

So..... you think this pp deserves a broken ankle for having different political views to yourself??

NotMyNigelFarage · 13/09/2025 13:30

There's nothing open minded about beleiveing that immigrant men are the biggest risk to women and children, that's just ignoring facts. Women and children are at most risk from partners and family members.

That's just because immigrants are much fewer in number than British born males. The latest figures seem to be showing that Afghan males are 3x more likely to commit sex crimes.

It's hardly surprising when UN surveys find almost 90% of men in the four middle eastern countries they surveyed admitting to commiting public sexual assault because it's 'fun'.

Sexual assault is present everywhere in the world but until the last decade we'd never seen the type of mob sexual assaults that have been common in the middle east for decades.

I don't really care about people's background, religion, ethnicity, etc, so long as they're decent individuals but when 1200 women get sexually assaulted in one night by Muslim men almost exclusively being foreign nationals/asylum seekers something is going very wrong!
