My son has gone on the march

Hi, have been on here years but only lurk, don’t post. But today is the day.
I am in bits. My 22yr old DS is in London on this march. I am shaking and utterly appalled. We differ on politics massively and have done for some time. I work in education, have travelled and am bit of a lefty hippy but to be honest it’s becoming more about values and morals. He is fully immersed in the manosphere algorithm and I’ve always thought he is exploring himself and things and have chats about why he has the opinions he does and try and understand his point of view. I try not to belittle him but try and get him to critically think about things.
But this I can’t deal with. I am so upset that my son has gone to this, and that it is something that is so far away from me and my values, something that I thought I had instilled in him as well.
I am totally aware that it’s triggered embarrassment but that is my issue and I’m not putting that on him. He is still my son and I love him and his passion and interest in the world, just in something I believe is so wrong and makes me sad.
Please talk some sense into me.

So you don't want them contributing to the 'pot' then? Not sure why you were complaining about it.

Not when it undercuts wages for British Nationals.

For far too long, it has been claimed that migration has economically benefitted the United Kingdom.
The government’s own immigration White Paper from May 2025 admitted this was false, detailing stagnating GDP growth (just 3.4% since 2019, compared to the US’ 12% in the same period); immigration from low-skilled workers “distorting the labour market”, and displacing workers in six out of 10 key industries.

In what way?

The ones who claim to be the most tolerant and open minded are invariably the exact opposite.

Oh come on. Are you suggesting people should be tolerant of racism?

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 13/09/2025 13:40

Only on mumsnet will people respond to “my 16 year old daughter wants sleepovers with her bf” with she’s an adult and can do what she likes, but are more outraged for a 22 year old man to have a different political opinion than his mum.

Why not - it's true !

Initial tribunal ruling: A lower-tier immigration tribunal judge sided with Disha and his family, ruling that it would be "unduly harsh" for his 10-year-old son to be forced to move to Albania. The decision was not based solely on food, but on a more comprehensive picture of the child's needs.
The broader claim: The case involved the child's special educational needs, sensory issues, and difficulty communicating emotions. The child's sensitivity around food, including an aversion to "the type of chicken nuggets that are available abroad," was given as just one example in court documents, not the central reason for the ruling.
The higher court appeal: This initial ruling was later overturned by the Upper Tribunal, which ruled that the evidence was not sufficient. The judge stated that a single example of a picky eater did not come "anywhere near the level of harshness" required to prevent deportation.

Leftists: Ukraine is for the Ukrainians! It’s a sovereign nation. Let’s hang flags in solidarity! They’re fighting for their identity and culture! Look at Zelenskyy in his fatigues…

Also leftists: Aren’t those British flags disgusting and intolerant? If people want to come here via small boats, let them. The UK is for everyone. Urgh, toxic masculinity…

Again, no. Nobody is saying only Ukrainians should live in Ukraine, just that Russia shouldn’t actually take it over. And you are welcome to fly the flag on your own property, as those displaying Ukrainian flags in solidarity are doing, just not to hang it dangerously on public property where it will inevitably at best get tatty and at worst come off and cause an accident.

I am a Labour voter and I believe the illegal, dangerous cross channel boats run by gangs should stop. They won't be stopped by shouting at hotels or hanging flags on lampposts. There should be a safer way to apply for asylum.

Legal routes might not stop anything. What do you think people who get rejected will do? What if there’s a quota and the uk says it’s full?

They’ll enter illegally on a boat.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/09/2025 13:42

Owl718 · 13/09/2025 13:32

Of course they can but that shouldn’t preclude the ability to understand that others may hold different opinions and that they may be equally valid.

It is a trait of many left leaning types to think their views are in some way sacrosanct.

So. Imagine you are living in the 1930s. Hitler is hanging swastika flags everywhere, the Hitler Youth are going on wholesome hikes and singing songs, then he starts making Jews wear stars so they can be singled out, he takes away their businesses and homes (he has reasons for doing this ), he starts 'deporting' them and then he puts them into cattle trucks and takes them to be killed in gas Chambers. At which point on this journey do you stop thinking he's entitled to his opinions and decide for yourself what is right and what is wrong. At some point you have to make a stand.

Glad someone finally had some sense 🙄

Immigrants who integrated and didn't foist their culture on the host country.

And in sustainable numbers.
The governments have allowed a huge increase of immigratation over the past five years which does over whelm infrastructure, schools and hospitals; causing fields to be built over for housing, animal habitat destroyed etc.

The planet and any country can want a halt on increases to population. It is not anti immigration to say ENOUGH people using this river, this road and this school. It is okay to expect other countries to build infrastructure and to provide safe education for girls etc. or to ask their people to reduce population to a sustainable level which allows for no cutting down of trees, protection for wild animals and peaceful, civilised living standards and communications..

Flooding our way of life with more people than can be easily absorbed without destroying countryside is not sustainable. Our culture includes open farmland, woodland and greenspace. No one group of immigrants threatens that - but too many immigrants is short sighted and hugely disruptive.

Why is the government not looking clearly at the graphs and curtailing population. Naturally our citizens are only having low birth numbers because parents recognise what is sustainable. Then the government opens the floodgates. I can see why young people are marching.

Not quite what you made out in the first instance, is it.

Do you like to be protected against torture?

You’re making a good point

No-one is being tortured in France.

HereAreYourOptions · 13/09/2025 13:46

Maybe he just sees things getting worse and no-one on the left actually doing anything about it, other than uselessly tinkering around the edges whilst many of them tell themselves what fantastically moral and virtuous people they are and how anyone disagreeing with them is basically Hitler.

At least the right are offering change. It will make things worse of course, but until there is actually an attractive counter offer, that's where people will go.

You talk about the economy what the hell are these controversial, intimidating protests doing for the tourism? What are they doing for 'Investor confidence'- politically unstable countries are not ones to invest in!

It's safe for you to go on holiday then.

However you are protected from torture as part of your human rights. Are you willing to give that up?

cardibach · 13/09/2025 13:48

smallpinecone · 13/09/2025 12:44

We’re allowing them to, and people are shouted down if they take exception to it.

Who is invading? Immigrants with visas? Well, that’s unlikely as they have to satisfy particular requirements. Asylum seekers? All those in asylum ‘hotels’ currently wouldn’t even half fill Wembley Stadium.
Net immigration has halved this year, incidentally.

EarthSight · 13/09/2025 13:49

@NotMyNigelFarage I don't understand their logic.

If one invites enough men from countries where women's rights are woeful, are under constant attack, and where street sexual harassment is normal.....what do they expect to happen? Do they think that they leave those attitudes, those norms at the door the moment they set foot in the U.K? It feels like epic gaslighting to me, or people who just want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend there's no issue there.

I'm not saying that's happening now its a question of deciding what is right and wrong. At some point it ceases to be an 'opinion '. I could have used a different example.

Like I say OP, I feel for you. x

For some people, giving up human rights is worth it if it makes the country all white again.
Not that such people understand what those rights are for...

We are told by this government that "people have the right to peaceful protest" even when the pro-Palestinian lobby are shouting for jihad on the streets, terrorising Jewish people and smashing up their businesses.🙄
