Turn your son in knowing it’s the death penalty?

TaupeLemur · 12/09/2025 15:28

Kirk’s killer has apparently been turned in by his family - or persuaded to hand himself in.
Trump &’his supporters have been very vocal about getting the death penalty for the shooter.

would YOU hand your child over, knowing that the electric chair would be the likely outcome?

YANBU - I wouldn’t turn him in to die.

YABU - I would he’s a killer and deserves all he gets

They probably wanted the reward money !

I find it so confusing how they talk about the awful crime the killing of Charlie Kirk then in the next breath hoping a 22 year old gets the death penalty.

Butchyrestingface · 12/09/2025 15:55

To those saying they WOULDN’T turn him in, what if this is only the start of a murderous rampage?

How would you feel if one of your loved ones was subsequently murdered by someone whose family KNEW what he’d done previously?

Everyone was (rightly) shouting from the rooftops, including on MN, when that Christopher Laundrie’s parents shielded him over the murder of Gabby Petito in 2022 and thought the parents should have been charged as accomplices or accessories after the fact.

Are you okay with being charged as an accessory just to protect a murderer who has confessed to you?

Cross that bridge when or IF it comes.

What if this shooting is totally out of character?

BettysRoasties · 12/09/2025 15:57

The consequences for his family if they hadn’t turned him in would likely be dire.

It is America after all. Where anyone can have a gun and despite some hate. This chap was also much loved by many.

JacknDiane · 12/09/2025 15:57

Never ever ever.

cupfinalchaos · 12/09/2025 15:57

I agree with the death penalty but if I’m honest I don’t think I could do it to my child. Total hypocrisy.

Will be in any case, nutters will blame the family.

If all evidence is a definite that's him and he admits it, why shouldn't it be a death penalty?

Kirk's 2 children are now growing up without a Daddy.

Don't forget that Daddy would have theoretically forced his 10 year old daughter to give birth to child as a result of rape and would have commended his son to death if he turned out to be gay.

That's what he preached.

NoelFurlong · 12/09/2025 15:58

blackpooolrock · 12/09/2025 15:47

I would turn them in as i believe in a life for a life.

Such a moronic viewpoint. Let’s hope anyone that sanctions or administers it loses their life then too, eh?

TeaForTheTillermanSteakForTheSun · 12/09/2025 15:58

It's so hard to say.

I read somewhere his Dad is a republican pastor, so I can see why he turned him in.

Whether I would, it depends what the behaviour had been like before, if I considered he would do it again, whether it was a one off vendetta against one person, or the escalation of a pattern of worrying behaviour.

I guess it's easy to sit here and say you definitely would/wouldn't, but none of us really know unless we are in the situation.

I vehemently disagree with the death penalty though, regardless of the crime.

Hoppinggreen · 12/09/2025 15:58

I imagine this Father felt it was the safest thing for his son to hand himself oveer in a controlled environment
I would never turn my son in no matter what he had done unless it was the safest thing for him

FastFood · 12/09/2025 15:59

I totally disagree with death penalty but also totally understand the parents.
We don't know how this guy behaved with them. Maybe they witness the escalation of his radicalisation, maybe they were worried about the fact that he may hurt himself or others one day...
What could they do?

Death penalty as this stage is just one potential outcome but if he cooperates, he's got really good chances to avoid it and get a life sentence.

BettysRoasties · 12/09/2025 15:59

Death row is pretty cushty as far as prison goes as well. Since you’ll spend many many many years in it before you get anywhere near your demise.

SixSeven · 12/09/2025 15:59

Do all gunmen who kill get the death penalty?
If not, why is Trump saying this killer will?

bapples1 · 12/09/2025 16:00

Yes & perhaps this was preferable to a shootout with the police

The death penalty isn’t going to change that.

Fabrikick · 12/09/2025 16:00

No one knows what they'd do, do they? Reality is he would be found eventually, his dad is a cop and knows the implications for the family of not handing him over when they knew, they may also be decent, honest people who find his actions abhorrent. I dont agree with the death penalty, but if you murder someone in a state where they have it then thats a conscious decision you make isnt it.

One is an innocent father of two, who just wanted to talk to you. One is someone who would kill you for holding opinions he doesn’t like

Learn the difference

That's what he preached.

The claims of him advocating death for being gay has been shown to be a lie.

Stephen King is posting apologies for these claims at the moment.

You may want to be a bit more careful.

It’s state by state.

Charlie welcomed gay people into the republican movement and said they were to be loved.

while I don’t agree with him on the abortion point he is coming from the point of view that abortion is taking a human life.

They possibly still will be.
No doubt some of the far right MAGA fanatics will want an eye for an eye tatic and may go after the next best thing.

BettysRoasties · 12/09/2025 16:02

Thing is hate or love Charlie Kirk.

Did he deserve to be shot for daring to debate ? For having an opinion you don’t like?

No and no.

No sympathy for the shooter and whatever his outcome is.

This is why I can’t understand how they can value human life so much that they oppose abortion but then are pro death penalty ?

Makes me laugh how all these “pro lifers” lose their beliefs when it comes to the death penalty.

A man who thinks innocent children shot at school are acceptable collateral to keep their gun ownership laws deserves no sympathy.
