To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

I've had mine done twice in 23 years. Needless to say they are filthy. We are surviving.

Edit to add: the insides do get done maybe twice a year.

Edited

I've lived here 19 years, I clean the outside downstairs myself every couple of months, never had the upstairs done. I run a first floor shop separately, that's done every 6 months by a window cleaners as it doesn't seem to get as much grime as the ground floor shop windows.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 09/09/2025 21:34

My window cleaner hasnt come since June so this thread is spurring me on to getting a new one.

do I have to “fire” the old window cleaner?! How does it work 🤣🤣

lilkitten · 09/09/2025 21:43

Just thinking though - I've never seen a window cleaner round where we live, or any adverts. I wouldn't no where to find one. I'm guessing everyone round here does it themselves or just doesn't do it. My parents live on a nice estate and have them cleaned regularly, but they also have a gardener and a cleaner regularly

restingbitchface30 · 09/09/2025 21:57

I’ve been in my house 20 years, never had them cleaned. They’re surprisingly clean considering! I do the inside once a year maybe.

sgtmajormum · 09/09/2025 22:12

Lived in my house for 20 years, I do the insides once a fortnight. The outside downstairs once once a year for spring clean. Can't reach the top ones so they never get done.
I did get a window cleaner in once to clean them all after we had the gutters and soffits replaced but that's about it.

Once a year I think I should get one of those extendable poles for the upstairs windows then I forget as I am slovenly 😀

ItsJustLittleOldMe · 09/09/2025 22:20

Husbands a window cleaner and he has half his customers wanting him once a month and the other half every other month. He charges first clean prices for anything less regular than that as they get filthy. I’m one of the lucky window cleaner wives who gets their windows cleaned once a month too! Couldn’t stand looking out dirty windows

ellyeth · 09/09/2025 22:30

Our front windows get cleaned once a month. I clean our back windows, but less frequently - about every 3 months. Our sitting room at the back has patio doors, no blinds, and the kitchen has a glass door and I don't like to see the doors dusty and dirty when the sun shines through in the morning.

When we were younger we were far too busy rushing here and there - work, children, parents, etc. to worry about cleaning windows.

I’ve lived in my current house for 3 years and never had the windows cleaned. They look fine to me!

likewise. i am a clean person and everything else in the house is cleaned very regularly, windows is just something that isn’t on my radar. not sure why, ive just never really thought about cleaning them.
i must just be a slattern…

JohnTheRevelator · 09/09/2025 23:50

I knew someone who had theirs cleaned every week!

I do mine every 2-4 weeks inside and out.
I do it myself using white vinegar and kitchen roll. Easier to do the inside but I reach round and do the outside too. We live in a very green area and the trees and sky look nicer through shiny clean windows!

Meadowfinch · 08/09/2025 18:07

I've never paid for my windows to be cleaned. I do it on Sunday mornings, about every 3 months.

I'm not climbing ladders to do my windows.

Ours get cleaned once a month.

happychops · 10/09/2025 00:33

Outside done once a month by window cleaner - had the same one since we moved in 27 years ago! Inside windows I do maybe every 6 months or if I see that they look grubby 🤣

PeachShaker · 10/09/2025 00:52

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

I’ve not had one since I lived with my parents as a teenager - not once in the house we’ve lived in 13 years. I was loosely considering it after a flyer but it’s still a no. It’s not a priority and it looks fine

DownyEmerald · 10/09/2025 05:21

I do ours - about twice a year, maybe 3 if my mum comes to stay. There's a couple I can't do the outside of. Will get a window cleaner if we put the house on the market

You don’t have to climb ladders! I do it with an extendable pole kit

NotAnotherChickenNugget · 10/09/2025 07:45

In the 12 years we’ve owned houses we’ve had a window cleaner out twice 😬 There’s just more important things to spend your money on in my opinion!

fetchacloth · 10/09/2025 07:53

YANBU but my window cleaner varies his visits a bit, sometimes it's 4-5 weeks, other times it could be nearer 6-8 weeks. I'm happy with that though, works for me 😎

TheBewleySisters · 10/09/2025 07:54

Our window cleaner comes once every four weeks and does exterior upstairs and downstairs windows, back and front, plus door and window surrounds. £15.

I'm happy to pay someone else to do it for me. £18 for a detached house (12 windows) and a conservatory.

Soosi · 10/09/2025 08:54

I have always cleaned my own windows. I wonder if people have ever totted up how much it’s costing a year !

£72. It's well worth it to me to have one particularly awkward job off my to-do list forever.

People who have window cleaners are quite capable of doing the maths!

LizzieLazzie · 10/09/2025 09:06

Our window cleaner comes round once a month. He and his dad (recently died) now him and another man have done this for the 34 years we’ve lived in this house. They do our neighbours’ windows too. Same with our milkman. I live in a village, so maybe a bit old fashioned, where local tradespeople serve the community.

LizzieLazzie · 10/09/2025 09:09

It costs £10. It was £8 till a couple of years ago when my husband finally got him to agree to take more!

RoseThorne · 10/09/2025 09:55

We have always had them done every 4 weeks

VexedofVirginiaWater · 10/09/2025 10:03

cramptramp · 09/09/2025 19:55

Older than that age group but our window cleaner comes once a month, 4 bed detached he does front, back and sides, £15 a time.

Golly, that makes me realise what a good deal I'm on - 4-bed link detached, front and back - actually I don't think he does the front door bit which is the only side he could get to - but he only charges £6.50.
