To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

Nope, every 3 months for me. Just keeps them tidy. It costs £35 a time so that's plenty often enough for me.

Katheclepto · 09/09/2025 19:27

We have lived here 7 years and had them done twice and they’re rank! Just not a priority to me!

Carpedimum · 09/09/2025 19:35

We have ours done every month £15 and they use ionised water. My parents have theirs done every fortnight so ours is lax by comparison. We like a clean, tidy house inside and out, it’s just our preference.

bigblueboots · 09/09/2025 19:38

Can't believe how close to 50-50 this vote has stayed! Thanks to all you grubby people for backing up my cause. DP also feels vindicated, so everyone's a winner!

I do mine myself as I begrudged having to organise and pay someone else to do it. And then they moan about how to get their equipment to the back (mid terrace).

I bought some equipment myself from Amazon, do it a few times a year, it’s free, no admin, no-one moaning about how to get round the back. Honestly so much easier! I pay a company to clean out the gutters once a year.

Our local window cleaner charges £15 for 20mins which I think is excessive, so I do them myself probably only twice a year

Allowing for travelling and bad weather days, he probably averages at most 2 per hour. Then he's got all the expenses of equipment, travelling, his NI, tax and pension contributions etc. He'll also need to allow for holidays and maybe some days off sick. So his charge is perfectly reasonable. People often don't realize that you can't equate a self-employed hourly rate with an employee's.

cramptramp · 09/09/2025 19:55

Older than that age group but our window cleaner comes once a month, 4 bed detached he does front, back and sides, £15 a time.

Nbo · 09/09/2025 20:00

My previous house I got them done every 2 weeks but it was only £4 for a 2 bed semi! Don’t have one round my area now unfortunately

Yourcatisnotsorry · 09/09/2025 20:06

Ours do but we have a window cleaner. I’d never get around to it otherwise. Insides get done very rarely 😬

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/09/2025 20:13

Used to be six weekly, then the windowcleaner didn't come back after Covid. It really made a difference to have clean windows and frames (plus he'd do guttering and the bins if he felt like it needed it - for free).

Only realised recently that the reason he didn't come back was because DP cancelled him on the grounds that he'd do the windows himself and has been consistently binning leaflets and cards coming through from others. It's been five years and I think he's done half of them about six times.

Reckon I know what he's doing this weekend now. And every month until he stops being such a stinge about my money.

AintNoPunshineWhenShesGone · 08/09/2025 18:08

Our window cleaner comes every 3 weeks.

I try to do the inside on the same day but I'm a lazy fucker, so they get done probably more like every 5 or 6.

Same x 2 😂

tommyhoundmum · 09/09/2025 20:16

Twice a year and they do the ledges and shutters too. We have many windows in a small flat. It is expensive though. They wear booties in the house

Matriarchofmenopausemansion · 09/09/2025 20:22

Every 4 weeks....I used to be a window cleaner and most of our customers were every 2 weeks..

JasperTheDoll · 09/09/2025 20:27

Valmaine · 08/09/2025 18:11

Twice a month, for the last 16 years! It literally never occurred to me to ask to do them less than that! This thread is a bloody revelation!

Same. Our window cleaner comes every fortnight and I do the inside weekly. I honestly thought that was the norm.

vickylou78 · 09/09/2025 20:36

Never get mine done......and insides get cleaned probably 4 times a year. Our house looks no different to anyone else's! I am a bit of cleaning slacker though so my standards aren't that high!

snowone · 09/09/2025 20:39

We have ours done as often as he turns up to do them, I think it’s monthly but I could be wrong! 🤣

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

Nope, I don’t have one. I’ve had my house for about 2.5 years and had one ad hoc clean at the front after my house was painted. They’re absolutely fine.

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 09/09/2025 20:52

Been in my house 15 years and cleaned the downstairs ones myself. Upstairs never been done. It does not matter in the scheme of things.

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 09/09/2025 20:58

We just do our own windows… why would I pay someone when I can reach it myself 😂

Tbf it’s barely been done since we had DD (10mo)!

MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast · 09/09/2025 20:58

Everyone round here has them done monthly. Mostly families with kids in average houses.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 09/09/2025 21:00

40’s, average 4 bed new build and like most of our estate they are cleaned monthly.

Cynic17 · 09/09/2025 21:03

Absolutely not. I've no idea how often - my husband may wash them occasionally, but we've never had a window cleaner. And they look fine, to be honest.

TheLurpackYears · 09/09/2025 21:03

I think they come once a month for 9 or 10 months a year he told me he skis for a couple of months in the winter. I assume my neighbours window cleaners come at rhe same interval.
The place looks niceer with it done.
40s, 4 bed house, £12 a pop.

Wanted to see this type of reply as well. Have lived in current house for 9 years, and had them done once, mainly because there was some really annoying bird poo across the bedroom windows.

Would probably get them done every six months or so (really not convinced they look any different to other peoples who get them done more often), but window cleaners don’t seem interested in that, just want the every month customers etc, which I just can’t justify.

deste · 09/09/2025 21:32

When we had a new build it was weekly by me. Now we are in an older house with large windows and I think our window cleaner died about 15 years ago. I did clean the patio doors when i was looking after my DGD because her hands were all over them but she has been at school now for three years.
