To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

I may just be gross but we've lived here six years and I've never had the upstairs windows cleaned. On a rare occasion when I'm feeling especially domesticated, I might do downstairs myself with one of those little karcher vac things. They look fine to me, idc lol

eachtigertires · 09/09/2025 15:40

3 bed semi, kids, animals etc. we’ve been here for 6 years and never done it. They are a bit grubby but everyone’s still alive.

Humblebumbley · 09/09/2025 15:47

Late 30’s, 2 kids, semi detached 3 bed house. Lived here 4 years. Never had the windows cleaned 🫠

Om83 · 09/09/2025 15:59

50’s semi, lived here 10yrs, never had a window cleaner and probably only clean windows once a year if that, never done the upstairs ones!! Might be because we live on a cul de sac so less dirt from passing traffic, but generally don’t notice them ever needing doing!

recently been discussing it in my house as had a knock on door from a company wanting to do a payment plan for every 4-6 weeks and I couldn’t believe people pay so much (£40) as extra expense so regularly!

jamnpancakes · 09/09/2025 16:33

I grew up in Scotland and window cleaners were standard. People took pride in their houses. I live in England now on a new estate and most people on here get their windows cleaned.

Not sure how much cheaper it would be as much of it is quite hard to access. Even with the poles, it’s takes a couple of hours! It’s a rather large 5 bed/5 bath house with 5 receptions and two large conservatories…glass double doors alone leading out of the house totals 9! That’s on top of large windows in every room…I have to get a roofer/gutter company in every six months to clean the parts where the house meets the conservatories as it’s very hard to reach and they have to shimmy on their bellies along the house so as not to step on conservatory roofs!

It would still be alot cheaper believe me as the equipment is expensive to buy and then there's the running costs of the van , water treatments etc and they do an utterly shit job so not even worth it . How much do they charge for your house out of interest ?

£70, they do every outside door (9 sets of double French doors!) 12 large full wall length windows, 2 glass conservatories (each is about 5mx10m at least!) and a dog room off the utility room which is a mini conservatory so glass walls..and they do all the frames and sills too…I’ve had the same company for 12yrs..

They take a couple of hours with poles so I dread to think how long it’ll take by hand!

Every 6 weeks by our window cleaner of 23 years (shamedly the insides very rarely)

LillyPJ · 09/09/2025 17:53

TorroFerney · 09/09/2025 15:00

We are far from clean freaks but windows are cleaned every week. I’d have said that was usual to be honest. Whole house is cleaned once a week

That sounds a bit clean-freaky to me!

Moii · 09/09/2025 17:54

Our local window cleaner charges £15 for 20mins which I think is excessive, so I do them myself probably only twice a year

Perimomof2 · 09/09/2025 18:04

Window cleaner every 6 weeks but he only charges £8 for every window in a 3 bed semi. The insides get done far less often 🙈

BlackeyedSusan · 09/09/2025 18:06

Ours get done monthly. Flat dweller with no say I when they come.

Dawnb19 · 09/09/2025 18:07

We get ours done every month. We do get spray from the sea that makes it dirty. Honestly, I could probably do with getting it done every 2 months but I feel bad saying that to the old man that cleans them.

RNJ3007 · 09/09/2025 18:09

Every 8 weeks, £12 for the lot, and that’s for a zone 3 London 3 bed end of terrace including the glazed porch 🫣 Feeling incredibly lucky to have my amazing window cleaners now (almost 17 years and only gone up £4 in that time - and we added 5 panels of glass within that time!!)

Monthly here. It's monthly or no window cleaner, they all only do monthly rounds.

My mum's is 6-8 weeks, when he feels like it.

I've never paid for my windows to be cleaned. I do it on Sunday mornings, about every 3 months.

I do mine on Sundays (weather and health permitting), but every week, always have, same as mum. It doesn't matter as long as the person who has the job is happy with it, that's all that matters. Also, if you live near traffic or trees and such the windows tend to get dirtier.

autienotnaughty · 09/09/2025 18:13

Our is every 6 weeks

Daftypants · 09/09/2025 18:15

Monthly here , he does the entire street .
It is far too big a job to do myself ( I do the inside of all the windows and all the glass of interior doors after he’s been and that is a LOT )

GiveDogBone · 09/09/2025 18:22

Mine get washed when it rains, and that is it.

Cyclingforcake · 09/09/2025 18:36

Snowdroppel · 08/09/2025 18:09

About 6 weekly. Don't think our cleaner really offers you a choice!

Us too. They get done when the window cleaner thinks they need it!

40andcounting · 09/09/2025 18:37

I had my windows cleaned about 10 years ago and ive been in the house 20 years. Decided I needed a clean a few years ago covid time and they never turned up.
Insides 2-3 times a year. Some more than others where the hands get on the patio doors

robotbella · 09/09/2025 18:52

I’ve just got mine done for the first time, having lived in this house for 10 years. It is nice to have a clear view, but it’s not that different really! I’ll probably try and drop down to every 3-4 months now I’ve broken the seal. Definitely never thought about what’s ’normal’!

PizzaPowder · 09/09/2025 18:54

I think our window cleaner comes every fortnight 🙈

TaterTots68 · 09/09/2025 19:03

I don't know about most, but I can't remember the last time ours got cleaned. DH is supposed to do it, but never remembers, I occasionally give them a clean but it has been a while.
