To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

Maybe they just don’t talk about it? I don’t know if most of my friends have a window cleaner, I’ve never asked.

Whilst a possibility, no, that isn't it. Like some others on this thread have highlighted, not everyone has a window cleaner.

Of course I know not everyone has a window cleaner. Lots of people do though. It’s not an unusual thing to have.

cheapskatemum · 09/09/2025 12:17

Once a month here. We’re rural & there's always bird poo to clean off!

In my circle, it clearly is.

Ours are done every 6-8 weeks, in the front of the house. The back windows are done hardly ever, maybe once a year.

this is our routine too.

FartyAnimal · 09/09/2025 13:53

Not sure what is normal! Ours get very grubby (spiders webs etc) as we are quite rural - ours are done every month. I try to clean the insides that often (fly poo) but it's a ballsache of a job!

AlexandraJJ · 09/09/2025 13:55

Window cleaner comes once a month, I clean inside windows once a week

LillyPJ · 09/09/2025 13:59

The cleaner does a great job on the outside. I clean the insides when I notice they need doing. I think I've done a good job, then the sun comes out and shows up all the streaks...

KmcK87 · 09/09/2025 14:42

Mine get done every 3/4 weeks. It supposed to be every 3 weeks weather dependant.

What are you doing in your house that necessitates cleaning your windows once a week?

Smoking?

Animals?

Food fights?

AlignmentSeptember · 09/09/2025 14:45

Never paid to have windows cleaned

DecoratingDiva · 09/09/2025 14:51

Lates 50s, live in a three bed semi. No window cleaner and I do the inside every few years.

TorroFerney · 09/09/2025 14:59

We have a window cleaner but I’ve just realised I’ve no idea how often he comes . I’m off to check.

We are far from clean freaks but windows are cleaned every week. I’d have said that was usual to be honest. Whole house is cleaned once a week

llittledoveblue · 09/09/2025 15:01

Our is monthly but that’s just what the cleaner round here offers

Panda89 · 09/09/2025 15:07

Ours is every 6 weeks, he does a bunch of houses on the road so yeah from my perspective it’s what most people do.
Worth noting we all have full length windows and partial glass roof on the living room, so it’s really necessary.

mummybear35 · 09/09/2025 15:19

We haves ours done every 3 months, just the outsides with the special water (can’t remember what they call it!) on board a large van. It’s quite costly to do as it’s a rather big house with lots of glass doors, windows, two large conservatories etc so we manage with it every few months and that’s worked fine for us..the last two owners had it done monthly but I didn’t feel it warranted doing that regularly as never got that noticeably dirty. We’d rather spend the money on having the gardeners in each week to trim, weed, blow leaves in autumn, cut lawn etc as I find the garden is more noticeable if not tendered to.

Phoenixfire1988 · 09/09/2025 15:20

My partners a window cleaner and it takes 6 weeks to do the round so every 6 weeks windows are cleaned , he does our home ones monthly aswell

AgileMentor · 09/09/2025 15:21

2 bed semi here. Never paid anyone to clean my windows. We do them ourselves!! No one in our cul de sac has them done.

A traditional window cleaner would be cheaper alot are moving to using the poles you've described and customers are jumping ship (my partner gets new customers weekly due to this ) because of the cost and they don't actually clean the windows that well it leaves them with streaks plus sills and frames aren't cleaned like a traditional cleaner would do

beautifuldaytosavelives · 09/09/2025 15:30

Every month. I think every other month would be enough but the price seems to be a third of other local rounds so don’t want to fall off the list. This thread has just woken a memory of being in my childhood home in the early 80s onwards and the windows being done weekly!

Not sure how much cheaper it would be as much of it is quite hard to access. Even with the poles, it’s takes a couple of hours! It’s a rather large 5 bed/5 bath house with 5 receptions and two large conservatories…glass double doors alone leading out of the house totals 9! That’s on top of large windows in every room…I have to get a roofer/gutter company in every six months to clean the parts where the house meets the conservatories as it’s very hard to reach and they have to shimmy on their bellies along the house so as not to step on conservatory roofs!

ethelredonagoodday · 09/09/2025 15:31

Monthly, and they also do our patio sliders inside too.

TreeDudette · 09/09/2025 15:31

Mine are done monthly... at least on the outside.
