To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

And £75 bloody pounds!

What?? Where is that? Ours has just gone up from £8 to £9 and he was very apologetic about that. Six windows, one set of patio doors and a double set of french doors. None of this big long pole kerfuffle - he’s up there on a ladder doing it properly. This is central Scotland.

OutdoorQueen · 08/09/2025 22:24

Externally every fortnight, internally weekly.

Amazed by some of the replies, do the spider webs on the outsides not send you scatty? Splash marks from when it’s been raining etc?

We have a separate building that we run our business from too and they are all done on the same basis!

We have lived in our current home 20+ years and always done the same.

Lilyhatesjaz · 08/09/2025 22:26

This is what rain is for

Lemonyyy · 08/09/2025 22:28

Every 12 weeks, £15 a pop. We are not particularly house proud!

Twice a month, for the last 16 years! It literally never occurred to me to ask to do them less than that! This thread is a bloody revelation!

Me too!! We must have very clean windows 😅

longtompot · 08/09/2025 22:29

@bigblueboots no window cleaner here, never had one. I clean the insides a couple of times a year, and every time wish I did it more often. The outside might be about the same if not a little bit more, same about wishing I did it more often. I can never get them streak free no matter what I do (washing up liquid, wash and use a squeegee blade to remove the water and a cloth to wipe up the excess water. I sometimes buff with kitchen towel.)

NoTouch · 08/09/2025 22:32

Window cleaner comes once a month and does, windows, frames and doors. Its only £12 so no problem.

Insides get done at least once a year 😳

PleaseBringMeMyWine · 08/09/2025 22:33

3DC & we're late 30s

Never had a window cleaner.

Outside gets done (by DH) maybe once a year. It is just always very far down on the priority list! I think they look fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

Yep! Never had a window cleaner.

Think I've cleaned out windows about 2-3 times in the last 8 years.

Only iron if I really have to as well.

Got enough on my plate...

readingmakesmehappy · 08/09/2025 22:34

mine were last done well over a year ago

ReadingSoManyThreads · 08/09/2025 22:35

Well we don't have a window cleaner. Lived in our house for about 12 years and think they've been done once in that time.

We do the insides about once a year. The outsides of the downstairs get done every few years. I do clean the outside of our bathroom window when cleaning the bathroom though as it's small and easily reached.

Nourishinghandcream · 08/09/2025 22:35

I wanted them done monthly but my OH suggested that might be to frequent (bearing in mind that I tend to clean them weekly myself anyway, whenever I see any marks on them!).
We settled on every 6-weeks.😁

haggisaggis · 08/09/2025 22:37

Our window cleaner is meant to come once a month.

BerryTwister · 08/09/2025 22:37

I’m 57 and have never had my windows cleaned!

Often see a man doing upstairs windows with a long handled brush and dirty rag. There’s no way he can get a satisfactory result like that. Must look awful from inside. These days, many windows have a way of extending them out so you can reach to clean them from inside, and clean all the grooves, seals and panes properly.

That's what my windows are like , and I'm on second floor, so my window cleaner comes into my flat and does the inside and outside windows once a month.

Justanotherdramalama · 08/09/2025 22:40

I usually clean my windows outside and in, maybe once a year. I can never get them to look good though. This thread has inspired me to start doing them monthly and give my bingo wings a free workout Grin

MeganM3 · 08/09/2025 22:42

Living in a very busy area of London.. window cleaner every 3rd week and they got filthy in that time.
Living somewhere quiet and on the cusp of countryside… had new windows 2 years ago and never cleaned them.

Allseeingallknowing · 08/09/2025 22:43

Lilyhatesjaz · 08/09/2025 22:26

This is what rain is for

Rain often contains dust! Unless it is very heavy rain, windows often look worse afterwards.

MrsJeanLuc · 08/09/2025 22:45

Ours get done every 5 or 6 weeks

HostaCentral · 08/09/2025 22:45

Ours cost £45, so only every three months. If the conservatory roof and house gutters need doing, which is twice a year, it's £200 😫

Inside I do maybe two or three times a year.

Wash with soapy water and vinegar. Use an old tea towel or old cotton t shirt to dry them off. No smears.

Don’t forget the skirting boards…

FiguringLifeOutOneFuckUpAtATime · 08/09/2025 22:56

Once a month here, 3-bed semi. But I live in an area with a LOT of construction work (old buildings demolished/new builds) going on for the last few years so windows get grim pretty quickly. I don't clean the insides quite so often though... 😬

kittensinthekitchen · 08/09/2025 22:56

Window cleaner comes every 4-6 weeks I think? I don't' know, it depends on the weather (and maybe if he has holidays booked? 😆)

Ihatewinding · 08/09/2025 23:04

NuovaPilbeam · 08/09/2025 18:15

The only time i asked a window cleaner to quote i did notice he was crafty insisting there was no option for a one off clean, it was sign up for an unnecessarily regular clean or get nothing.

I went for nothing.

Threads like these make me realise why I've got more money than most people, they are all pissing it away on window cleaners every two weeks and nails every 3, highlighs every 6 weeks, replacing all their pillows every 2 years and mattresses every 5 etc!

Yup, never had our windows cleaned in nearly 5 years of owning our house, can see out of them fine.
Also not got any pets so no vet bills (also food, meds, holiday sitters, etc), have cut my own hair for 8 years, didn't see a dentist for 10 years (this did come back to bite me though 🙈), SIM only contracts on cheapish phones. Our expenditure is much less!
Some of our bedding is 15+ years old and we are planning on replacing it in the near future though
