To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

This is fascinating. I am late 30s in a semi detached house for the last 8 years, a flat before then and have never even considered getting our windows cleaned from the outside. Have cleaned the kitchen ones maybe once a year or two from the inside.

They don't look any different to anyone else's windows that I have noticed, and I never realised anyone had their windows cleaned as often as many on here seem to!

whatcanthematterbe81 · 08/09/2025 21:24

Window cleaner? 😂🙈

Ivegotafeelingwerenotinkansasanymore · 08/09/2025 21:29

Every 4 weeks, I find it £7 well spent for a job I don't need to do myself

cupfinalchaos · 08/09/2025 21:30

Once a month.

Kindafreakingouthere · 08/09/2025 21:30

Every 3 weeks. It rains a lot in Scotland so they get dirty quite quick…my next door neighbour hasn’t had hers done in the 10 years (😱 wow that’s flown in) that I’ve lived here and you genuinely would not be able to see out of them!

cupfinalchaos · 08/09/2025 21:30

And £75 bloody pounds!

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 08/09/2025 21:31

Every 4 weeks, costs £15 (West Yorkshire)

JohnBullshit · 08/09/2025 21:32

Mine get done about once a month, or whenever the window cleaners show up. I'm pretty slatternly on the whole, which you could probably tell from looking at the insides of the windows.

cupfinalchaos · 08/09/2025 21:30

And £75 bloody pounds!

Do you live in Buckingham Palace?! Ours is £15.

Watsername · 08/09/2025 21:33

We clean our windows if we are planning on selling our house. Have sold 2 houses in 25 years, so I get my windows cleaned once every 12.5 years …

Laura95167 · 08/09/2025 21:36

My window cleaner tried to suggest fortnightly and I said no chance. He comes 6-8 weeks now

Statsinyoureyes · 08/09/2025 21:37

We've never really bothered, but recently bought a house on the coast and the sea air makes the windows filthy so it's once a month now. It only costs 15 quid a time (south east)

Northquit · 08/09/2025 21:38

We do ours irregularly.
They're probably as good as the window cleaner does with his one bucket of mud and Sinbad style.

WearyAuldWumman · 08/09/2025 21:18

I'm in Fife. £8.

It's £60 here, that's why I do my own!

ropework · 08/09/2025 21:40

`Once every 8 weeks. Jason in Deal: a good man.

LillyPJ · 08/09/2025 21:40

It's interesting to see what people pay too. Mine comes every 5 weeks and charges me £15 for 7 windows and patio doors, plus he cleans the front door. It seemed quite expensive to me but another firm quoted £20 and would do it every 4 weeks.

spoonbillstretford · 08/09/2025 21:40

1offnamechange · 08/09/2025 18:30

I've had mine done twice in the 9 years I've lived here. Until a week ago it was once but since it's going up for sale thought it would be good for prospective views to be able to see out!

(jokes, they weren't actually that bad at all, I live in Wales so it rains a lot, and I do clean the insides)

How much do people pay for it to be doing it as often as most of you on this thread? A one off clean was £25, for the sake of a few hundred quid a year I'd buy an extendable squeegee and DIY!

£12.50 - 4 bed semi-detached house

YawnSoTired · 08/09/2025 21:41

Beamur · 08/09/2025 18:07

Mine get done once a month, seems normal to me.

Same

CyanMaker · 08/09/2025 21:41

I don't know anyone in the U.S. who has a window cleaner or where to even find one. My windows get washed every Spring. Suits me fine!

Dramatic · 08/09/2025 21:44

We haven't had ours done in about 3 years, our window cleaner just never came back once and we just haven't got round to getting another one. They're not that dirty so it's not been a priority

Libre2 · 08/09/2025 21:47

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

Yep me. Really ought to but we have lived in our house 14 years and have never had the windows cleaned (or indeed done them ourselves 😬) I am marginally ashamed, but only marginally.

Finteq · 08/09/2025 21:48

We don't have a current window cleaner.

But in our old house it was monthly.

The window cleaner sets the schedule.

LovePoppy · 08/09/2025 21:48

Is this a UK thing? I’ve been in my house 10 yrs and they were done once when the house was pressure cleaned (Canada)

WearyAuldWumman · 08/09/2025 21:49

Ineffable23 · 08/09/2025 21:20

What I don't understand is the price variation. If I could get mine done for £5-10 I would probably get them done regularly. But the places I've looked seem to be £15 to £20 which just feels too much.

There's a lot of competition round our way - maybe that's why it's cheaper. (It's not an affluent area, but it's not poverty stricken either. Most people here are owner-occupiers.) Some firms use the lance method, but our window cleaner advertises his firm as "traditional" and he has a a squad of men - a couple will do the back while another one or two tackle the front. They work their way along the street.

Some people pay by cash, but I get a card through my door and then pay the £8 electronically.

Valmaine · 08/09/2025 21:49

BurntBroccoli · 08/09/2025 19:00

Twice a month! How much do you pay? Is that just the outside?

It's £10 each time. Yes - just the outside. We just sorted of inherited him and never even thought to change it. I've just assumed that 2 x month was normal as he 'does' everyone I know in the area!

It's not traffic-heavy here at all, more green and leafy. Now I'm thinking about it for the first time in 16 years, there's one window that they can't get to and it's definitely dirtier! You really can tell a difference, but I don't generally notice things like windows in our house or anyone else's!

I'm going to suggest switching to once a month at least, now this thread has opened my eyes Grin
