To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

We briefly paid for our windows to be spray cleaned but I can do a better job myself - I find it quite therapeutic and do as and when required.

Yes I quite enjoy it! Use hot soapy water with a dash of vinegar then squigee off.

Once a month, terraced before in which we would have struggled but in a bungalow now, so could technically. Semi-rural with ALOT of trees around and two little ones so patio doors get particularly dirty with sticky fingers and pollen/debis. The local window cleaner we have was cleaning the property before we moved in so happy to continue and nice to give businesses to someone local. However, if we were to move elsewhere we may not get them done as often.

I recently moved into a very deprived area, think terraces of very small council housing. Window cleaners come around WEEKLY, with most people getting both front and back windows done this often. I'm the slattern clearly, as I asked him if he would do them 3 monthly and he said he couldn't do less than monthly.

Weekly 😱

FusionChefGeoff · 08/09/2025 20:59

I do ours about once a year 😂

Happyher · 08/09/2025 20:59

Every 4 weeks but it’s only £4.50

ReignOfError · 08/09/2025 21:02

I used to do my own about every 4 months. Nowadays I have a window cleaner every 6 weeks, but I’ve just dropped that to quarterly.

I do the insides two or three times year using the hand held bit of my steam mop.

Amba1998 · 08/09/2025 21:02

Once a month

CosyNavyLeader · 08/09/2025 21:03

Mine used to come every 6 weeks. It was too much. I didn't care enough to have them cleaned that frequently. I asked him to put me on a quarterly rota.

So he comes every 3 months, roughly. That suits me fine.

Rhubarbandgooseburycrumble · 08/09/2025 20:50

Isn’t that what the rains for? 😂

Outside of mumsnet I thought a few people had it done each year if the window guy knocks (they knock once or twice a year). So we have done it once and maybe I’ll say yes in 10 or 20 years.

Neighboursnumber1fan · 08/09/2025 21:08

Been in this house 17 years and the only time they are cleaned outside is when it rains. I do clean the insides occasionally but can think of far better things to spend my money on!

Portakalkedi · 08/09/2025 21:09

Never had one! DH does it about every 6 months outside, and I do inside maybe once a year.

LoafofSellotape · 08/09/2025 21:11

Everyone I know does, we do not. It's very expensive here. We used to in London, we had a great guy with a ladder and a bucket so had it done monthly. Here none of them use ladders and it's all filter water piped from their vans etc which bumps the price up. I do my own!

Cornwallchippy · 08/09/2025 21:11

Every 2 weeks. 4 bed detached. £5.50 a time which seems quite cheap. Can set my watch by him every other Friday and he seems to do every house in the road. Also clears gutters for an extra £15

MotorwayDiva · 08/09/2025 21:12

Need to find a new window cleaner, we used to get them done once a month, wanted to drop down every other month and they wanted to charge almost double. So cancelled and haven't got round to getting a new one, the front do need doing so will find one that does every other month, then once a year the back.

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

I don't either. I've been here for 30 years and I've never had them cleaned. But I did have new double glazing put in about 15 years ago and my husband jokes that we should replace the double glazing if we want clean windows.

Okiedokie123 · 08/09/2025 21:16

I’ve only ever had my windows cleaned once in 30 years of being an adult. I wipe the insides about twice a year. The rain does its best outside. I’m fine with that tbh.

Hedgehogbrown · 08/09/2025 21:17

No way I'd have a pervy man sticking his face in my upstairs windows unannounced on a regular basis.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 08/09/2025 21:17

Every 6 weeks here.

WearyAuldWumman · 08/09/2025 21:18

MillicentMaybe · 08/09/2025 20:56

Every month, depending on weather. I’m in Scotland.
Out of interest, how much do people pay?

I'm in Fife. £8.

sneezysbonnet · 08/09/2025 21:20

Mine are done every 4 weeks, but I live on the coast and we get a lot of salt deposits

Ineffable23 · 08/09/2025 21:20

What I don't understand is the price variation. If I could get mine done for £5-10 I would probably get them done regularly. But the places I've looked seem to be £15 to £20 which just feels too much.

Superhansrantowindsor · 08/09/2025 21:21

We sacked our window cleaner 8 years ago. Last year I paid someone to do them when we had the gutters cleaned out. They look awful but we are trying to save money. Keep saying I’ll do it myself but I don’t like ladders.

Theonewhogotthecake · 08/09/2025 21:21

Once in a blue moon because it’s extortionate. I’m SE London and even getting them to come and quote is difficult. When we have its £50! 4 bed semi, no conservatory.

CaptainSevenofNine · 08/09/2025 21:21

Window cleaner comes once every 4-6 weeks. £10

Bellyblueboy · 08/09/2025 21:22

I get mine cleaned every month - to be honest I have never really thought about it!
