To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

When I spoke to the local window cleaner I lived in one of the poorest parts of my city and also in western Europe. It was actually pretty cheap as a service, but the obligation to have it done so often was what made me decide it cost too much. Also, I had windows that I could open fully to clean myself, but I imagine some people have windows they can't even access themselves. Also old and inform people. You may know someone who gets a window cleaner, but who have never mentioned it to you.
Growing up, we just hardly ever cleaned them and that's pretty common too.

Twice a month, for the last 16 years! It literally never occurred to me to ask to do them less than that! This thread is a bloody revelation!

How much do you pay per clean?

WellThisIsFranklyDreadful · 08/09/2025 20:10

We do but we live on the coast so they get salty and grimy from the sea frets.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/09/2025 20:10

C152 · 08/09/2025 20:03

I've never met anyone who has paid to have their windows clean.

My reply above was to you, but the quote function didn't work.

Waterweight · 08/09/2025 20:11

Never done it. We clean the inside bottom frame when necessary but absolutely don't even think about the windows themselves

mendandmakedo · 08/09/2025 20:12

We dont have a windows Have had them done once in about 20 years. It seems like a waste of money unless visibly really dirty?

LaughingCat · 08/09/2025 20:12

Every 6 weeks for us - don’t fancy doing that myself!

Chobby · 08/09/2025 20:13

C152 · 08/09/2025 20:03

I've never met anyone who has paid to have their windows clean.

Really? No one you know has a window cleaner?
I’m fairly scummy but the window cleaner comes once a month!

ToTheStarsToTheSea · 08/09/2025 20:14

Every 8 weeks here

stayathomer · 08/09/2025 20:14

Do most people get them cleaned? I’m adding it to my wish list instead of my twice yearly fight with them, helped hugely by my sons agreeing to help then doing one window!!!

Maninpeace · 08/09/2025 20:14

Ours comes every fortnight.

Luckyforsome23 · 08/09/2025 20:15

Window cleaner every 8 weeks here.

G5000 · 08/09/2025 20:16

is this thread one of those 'OMG what do you mean you don't change your sheets/towels/bras twice per day!?!' type? I'm sure someone will come along who has a daily service.
I wash my windows myself whenever they look dirty.

MasterBeth · 08/09/2025 20:16

This thread infuriates me.

The question is "do most people get their windows cleaned...." not "do you get your windows cleaned..."

Letting us know what you do tells us nothing

How would we begin to answer the actual question?

(I bet the actual answer is "no, most people don't get their windows cleaned at all, let alone every few weeks", but that's just my hunch.)

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

I don't... tried a while ago, and found that sometimes windows looked dirtier (water wasn't clean perhaps) so cancelled and didn't bother trying another conpany

WearyAuldWumman · 08/09/2025 20:19

Most people round my way employ a window cleaner. The various companies have a gentlemen's agreement as to which streets they cover.

I'm charged £8 for our place.

Nina1013 · 08/09/2025 20:21

We have ours done every 4 weeks, having recently dropped down from fortnightly.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 08/09/2025 20:22

Once a month (just checked my bank account to be sure). A friend asked to get hers done less frequently, but I felt bad as this is his livelihood. (Anyway we have a lot of poopy doves who sit on my TV aerial and poop away merrily, so probably need them doing at least monthly.)

AnneShirley18 · 08/09/2025 20:23

The shame 😔. I have been in my house 2 and a half years and never had them done or done them myself. I keep the blinds drawn when home and try not to look at them because they're awful. Twenty years of flat life with window cleaning in the service charge means they're not on my radar until I'm confronted by them every now and them. Must get act together.

Champagneforeveryone · 08/09/2025 20:23

Every month, though my neighbour who moved in three weeks after us has never had his done (new build property) in the three years we've lived here.

While ours DO look better than his, mine certainly don't look as though I've lavished over £250 more a year on them than he has ☹️

Ponoka7 · 08/09/2025 20:23

Every two weeks, £5 a time. Always has been twice monthly, for forty years. That's the norm in the areas I've lived, across Merseyside.

BarbaraKirksKaftan · 08/09/2025 20:24

Our window cleaners come round roughly every 4 weeks. And they do a few houses in the street.

Mumstheword1983 · 08/09/2025 20:25

Ours are once a month. In winter he sometimes comes a bit less frequent. I pay £17 a go.

Lovemycat2023 · 08/09/2025 20:25

We didn’t get ours done for over ten years. Now we have them every three months. Doesn’t seem much different!

Chriskeela · 08/09/2025 20:26

Front: when the window cleaner turns up, at a guess every couple of months. He's done my windows like this for over 20 years but I don't have his number or any means of contacting him.
I do the back myself from inside, which is awkward - but our extension would be in the way of his ladder. That's probably only a couple of times a year.
