Why did I promise a K-Pop Demon Hunters party

My daughter is turning 9 in a couple of weeks and I have promised her a k-pop demon hunter theme party with a few close friends at home. Now I’m wondering what the hell I’m going to do for it!!!

I have body pens and hair glitter and noodle pots from the film plus the soundtrack. As the film is so new there’s very little online and I’m stuck for ideas, plus any merch takes weeks to get here. I was thinking of doing a demon hunter quest, quiz and games of some kind but don’t know where to start. Anyone have any ideas!

I know I shouldn’t have promised this without planning it first :-/

Any ideas what I can do?

Can you not just pop the film on and let them watch that with snacks/pizza?! 🙈

Get ChatGPT to make up a quiz and give you ideas for a scavenger hunt. Maybe there’s a wee craft activity it could suggest as well (I’m thinking something along the lines of those beaded friendship bracelets - low cost and low mess).

8 is pretty young to have watched this film. Have her friends seen it?

My daughter is 7 and has seen it 10+ times. Small sample size, granted.

My almost 7 year old has seen it and I'm quite strict with things like that, I watched it with him. It's fine

GloryFades · 07/09/2025 09:13

I’ve just googled KPop Demon Hunters party ideas and there’s loads of balloons, cake toppers, decorations, stickers, party bags etc?

It’s all tat from Temu, but I think that’s a given for any themed birthday paraphernalia.

RubyBee · 07/09/2025 09:14

My six year old and her mates are already planning their K-PDH Halloween outfits. Amazon do bundles of clip in purple hair extensions - they could do Rumi plaits?

Are you kidding? I don't know any 7 or 8 year old that hasn't watched it!

It really isn't, most children I know have seen these from about 6 and up. It's very tame really.

workingitout1234 · 07/09/2025 09:15

use canva to make some invites or chat gpt to go out via WhatsApp. Make a soundtrack on Spotify and also incorporate more classic party features like balloons

KPop Demon Hunters has become a bit of a phenomenon in the past few weeks, I would be surprised if a good number of 8/9 year olds haven't seen it.

I have nearly 9 year old twins who are big wusses (we have purposefully not exposed them to stuff that felt too old for their age as we just want our little girls to be little girls) but even they are showing an interest in this as "everyone at school is going on about it".

It's a PG so I'll probably have to give it a watch and then decide if they can manage it, but I'd imagine for a 9th birthday it's probably okay.

Ooohjustalittlebit · 07/09/2025 09:18

Maybe check with the parents whether their kids have seen it, I know at our school the 10 year olds have all seen it but nobody younger than that.

If the parents are ok with them seeing the film, there is a Netflix “sing along” version of it so they could watch that version and sing the songs? You could see if you can get those karaoke microphones.

Allthebubbles · 07/09/2025 09:20

Could you borrow a karaoke mic set up and get a disco ball- I think they will be happy dancing and singing.

CrazyCatMam · 07/09/2025 09:21

No idea what K-Pop Demon Hunter is - but my 9 year old has just filled me in!

You can make your own party merch very easily.

For decorations, your local library will be able to print out high-quality coloured images on A3 with ‘happy birthday _’ written across it. If you aren’t great with computers, they’ll help you.

If they like posing for photos - make face masks by printing out the characters’ faces, make eye holes with a sharp pencil & staple elastic to the sides.

Could print out answer sheets for the quiz with logo / image along the top.

I work in a library - people ask us for help with things like this all the time. You might have to supply the card yourself though.

UniversityofWarwick · 07/09/2025 09:28

My five year old has watched it more than once and seems to know the words to all the songs. Yet we had to turn off Encanto a couple of weeks ago.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 07/09/2025 09:30

Karaoke?

My two 7yr olds haven’t. Niether have most in their class. Don’t think it’s 7-8yr olds appropriate.

Blushingviolets · 07/09/2025 09:36

I know you’re having a panic but I think you sound like an amazing mum (even down to worrying about making it so great).
I’d assume any of the kids whose hair is long enough for a Rumi braid might already have one for the party but perhaps you could set up a little hairdressing stations in case (combs, little hair bands and perhaps some hair chalk?).
Definitely pop the film on. I think there’s a specific sing along version?
People have suggested some craft ideas. The bracelets are a good shout. I saw a video the other day showing how to style the towel on Zoey’s head in the spa scene. Maybe that could be a fun activity? Then they could wear them like party hats. This may be too lame for 9. My daughters 7 and is already cooler than me.

Yes they have all seen it and loved it. They have seen the film so many times I don’t think I’ll get away with just putting that on. 🤣

There are YouTube dance tutorials for some of the dances which could be fun.

Have you seen it? What is it you are concerned about? I'm very strict with tv, but dd loves this and I can't find anything inappropriate in it.

They all watched it at school as end of year treat so they have all seen it. It’s a great film. I think it’s brilliant.
