Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

That's disgusting.

Springadorable · 05/09/2025 21:58

I would expect my recently turned 4 year old to hold until we were back in the supermarket. At an absolute push I'd let my 2 year old wee in the car park but unlikely. No way should a 6 yo be weeing there, you were very unreasonable and well done to the other lady for calling you out on it.

saveforthat · 05/09/2025 21:58

Yes. YABU.

iirbRosb · 05/09/2025 21:58

Umm i wouldn’t have shouted but also agree that’s not very nice either for your DD to have to wee in public or generally. She’s not a 2/3 year old who is being toilet trained. I don’t know why you didn’t take her to the public toilets

ThejoyofNC · 05/09/2025 21:58

I would expect a 6 year old to be able to hold it for 2 minutes whilst you walk back inside.

Cutleryclaire · 05/09/2025 21:59

Buckle up OP. Mumsnet hates this sort of thing. (Personally I couldn’t give a toss).

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:59

She was weeing, can’t hold her wee for long sometimes and would not have made it in time

Really? 🙄

NuffSaidSam · 05/09/2025 21:59

Yes, you were in the wrong.

Your DD did do something wrong and she found out what the consequences of that were.

The lady isn't mean, she is correct.

It's not specific to Mumsnet. Normal people everywhere don't want to see humans pissing in car parks.

PatsFruitCake · 05/09/2025 22:00

I understand the desperation but surely you can understand that lots of people would find that unpleasant?

You couldn't have made it across the car park?
See a doctor

Createausernameplease · 05/09/2025 22:00

Unless medical issues she should have been able to hold it until in the supermarket. Yabu an especially as if the lady could see who else could?

Newusername3kidss · 05/09/2025 22:00

Of course you are being unreasonable. Firstly she is 6 not 3 - she should have dumped the bags in the car and gone back into supermarket. I’m not adverse to a wild wee when literally out in the woods where there are no toilers and my boys can go behind a bush but weeing by a car in a carpark is absolutely rank. So there is now a puddle of piss that someone is going to step in. Lovely.

I’m really shocked, she’s still quite little and cannot hold it when it gets to this stage
It would not bother me to see a child do that either, I completely get it

Then you and her need to take that into account and stop at the toilets when you are near them if she doesn't get enough warning. And also see a doctor. The answer is not just pissing wherever you fancy.

WaitWhatWhatWait · 05/09/2025 22:01

You are so out of order, I can't believe you did that!

Praying4Peace · 05/09/2025 22:01

Yanbu OP and I understand the predicament you were in.
Let it go and take care

BoredZelda · 05/09/2025 22:01

Unless there is some massive drip feed coming, and even then it would be dubious, 6 year olds should not be peeing in public. The fact she asked you means you’ve let her do it before.

Yeah right. I bet you always make it to a toilet when she's sitting in your car or on your sofa.

She was mean, she had no idea of our circumstances and it was none of her business

I keep a potty in the car, op, as this happened to me with my dd(6) who has autism

She is tall but managed to squat down and sit on it and go, she was bursting, poor thing. x

MissHollysDolly · 05/09/2025 22:01

Ffs, she’s six, of course she’s fine. Old lady needs to mind her own.

Unkind

Yabu, 6 is far too old, even at 2 it’s not right
