Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

She was weeing, can’t hold her wee for long sometimes and would not have made it in time

In that case you should have brought her up the bathroom before you left the shop.

It's not specific to Mumsnet. Normal people everywhere don't want to see humans pissing in car parks.

Especially when posters are talking about children in this..

LadyTable · 05/09/2025 22:02

Lol at the 'mean lady'.

Come on OP, you know you could've used the toilets in this situation.

I live 3 minutes from a primary school and the amount of parents who let their kids piss on the green at the corner of the road, because they apparently can't hold on till they get home is disgusting.

Especially in hot dry weather.

Small children is a completely different thing surely?!

Absolutely disgusting. She was right to say something. I cant believe you dont think it's a problem.

NameinVane · 05/09/2025 22:02

I probably wouldn’t have said anything to you but in my opinion 6 is too old to be weeing in a public space close to public toilets. Other people have to use that car park, I’d rather not have to navigate a puddle of wee whilst walking to my car.

PetuniaPetuniaPetunia · 05/09/2025 22:02

Yes that’s pretty disgusting. You can’t let her just wee in places that aren’t toilets. What if everyone did it? The lady was correct to pull you up on it.

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:01

She was mean, she had no idea of our circumstances and it was none of her business

It's everyone's business if she is in full view of people.

ninjahamster · 05/09/2025 22:03

I think she’s a bit old to be weeing in a supermarket car park.
But it’s not a huge deal. Plenty of drunk men seem unable to make it to the toilet and piss up walls!

Tryingtokeepitreal · 05/09/2025 22:03

Dogs pee literally everywhere. And their owners are usually standing by smiling as if waiting for me to compliment the flipping dog. I think it's fine OP, sounds like she was stuck and it was just a once off

She's six, not small. Disgusting.

If there are medical issues, then get her to the doctor.

She’s not a small child! She’s 6 not 3!

Blackbirdflyintothelight · 05/09/2025 22:03

I've got 2 kids. I've never, ever allowed one to piss in a car park! And they've never wet themselves because I've whizzed them back into a shop. YABU

PatsFruitCake · 05/09/2025 22:00

I understand the desperation but surely you can understand that lots of people would find that unpleasant?

There was no one really around, we were parked in a quiet spot away from other cars quite far from the doors

YABU. Weeing in a public car park? No, it’s not nice, sorry.

tealandteal · 05/09/2025 22:04

In that situation I would have just chucked the bags in the boot, locked the car and gone back in with her. My DS is three, toilet trained for less than a year and could manage this. My older DS is ASD and always waits until the very last minute so we have had lots of talks about giving lots of notice, not holding it in etc. If she is not getting much notice or feels she can’t hold if you should seek some medical advice.

atamlin · 05/09/2025 22:04

No, you were lazy. That’s disgusting.

Assssofspades · 05/09/2025 22:04

It's a bit of piss, can't believe people actually care.

NuffSaidSam · 05/09/2025 22:04

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:01

She was mean, she had no idea of our circumstances and it was none of her business

No, she told you there were toilets inside. Information which was correct. When you engage in antisocial behaviour, like urinating in a car park, it is everyone's business.

You are doing your child no favours here. Give her the skills to function in the world.

If you do something in public, then it's everyone's business.

PornOfCopia · 05/09/2025 22:04

It's grim, but she was definitely unreasonable for deliberately shaming a young child.

NorrisToenail · 05/09/2025 22:04

This bit didn't happen did it. I too think 6 is too old but i wouldn't have said anything to you.

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:03

There was no one really around, we were parked in a quiet spot away from other cars quite far from the doors

Well that can’t be right since the other woman saw you

333FionaG · 05/09/2025 22:04

I would have told her to go back inside the supermarket to the toilets. She’s 6 years old, not 2.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/09/2025 22:04

YABU, that’s grim. I know she couldn’t hold it so you were stuck but that doesn’t make it any less gross for everyone else. And if she’s peeing in a public car park you can’t declare it isn’t other people’s business, if you want privacy use a toilet. Next time maybe get her to use the toilet before leaving the shop.
