Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

It was totally fine, she's little and she was desperate.

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 05/09/2025 22:13

I don’t think it’s disgusting per se, dogs do it every bloody day & I do let my kids do ‘bush wee’s’ in parks with no toilet if they’re desperate, but a car park with a 6 year old is a bit much tbh OP. She’s not a baby anymore, and that’s a really public place… was your dd not embarrassed? My 6 year old would look at me like I had 2 heads if I suggested she crouched down in the car park!

Nostylequeen · 05/09/2025 22:13

Disgusting. You. Your dd couldn’t help it but you should have marched her back inside. She’s SIX. That is so dirty to everyone else. And the actual audacity of you to think it’s HER who was wrong

whengodwasarabbit1 · 05/09/2025 22:13

Oh the horror

Supersimkin7 · 05/09/2025 22:13

Rank.

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 05/09/2025 22:14

If she was that desperate surely she would have known she wanted to go as you were walking out of the shop literally a minute previously? Why didn't she ask to go then, as you were at the tills.

Wolfpa · 05/09/2025 22:14

Did you clean it up afterwards? Sometimes things happen and you have to make a choice about what is preferable under the circumstances.

leaving it for anyone to walk through is out of order. The least you can do is chuck some water over it.

TeenLifeMum · 05/09/2025 22:14

Ew, she’s a 6 yo child not a dog. Take your dc to the toilet when she tells you she needs it. You were lazy and prioritised shopping bags over your child’s needs.

Nostylequeen · 05/09/2025 22:14

Small child? She’s 6!

bigageap · 05/09/2025 22:14

I couldn’t care less but the pearl clutches are out in force!

blueclip · 05/09/2025 22:15

The lady was a twat IMO. A small child pissed in a secluded part of a supermarket car park because she was desperate and upset. Not ideal, but who cares, it’s hardly a problem. The lady was an uppity snob. She could have just left the situation alone, but she had to stick her nose in - for no gain, the OP already knew there were toilets in the shop.

ACatNamedRobin · 05/09/2025 22:15

That's really disgusting.
I can't believe you're bringing your kid up thinking this is an ok thing to do.

Okthenguys · 05/09/2025 22:16

OP - it wouldn’t bother me at all, certainly not enough to yell at you or your kid.

Newsenmum · 05/09/2025 22:16

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:01

She was mean, she had no idea of our circumstances and it was none of her business

I agree it was unkind. She has no idea of your circumstances. She’s just a little kid.

Namechangerage · 05/09/2025 22:16

Where did the wee go though? Imagine everyone let their kids do it, it’s rank.

When I first toilet-trained we had a portable potty thing and never ever let them just wee on the ground.

At 4 years old my little one would be expected to hold it for a few mins to go back inside. Are you also not checking if she needs a wee before you get in the car? I’m always asking mine if they need a wee and taking them in just in case, prevents all sorts of issues like this!!

She’s not a toddler, she’s school age! Op had one dc with her - totally ridiculous. If she was 2-3 you might get away with it but not 6. How embarrassing for the child. 6 year olds are very aware. A random lady saw her but what if it was a child from school? Can’t believe anyone thinks this is okay.

namechangetheworld · 05/09/2025 22:17

Meh. I would have done the same with my 6 year old OP. Dogs pissing in the street is far more revolting to me.

Shes a small child, not an elephant, it would been no more than a trickle and dried up pretty sharpish anyway.

CatHugger · 05/09/2025 22:17

YANBU, sorry. Six is too old for that. I wouldn't have said anything but would definitely have thought it.

If your DD struggles with urgent wees then please take her to the GP. It's not nice for her, especially as she gets older, and they can help.

Cosyblankets · 05/09/2025 22:17

There's a bit of a pile on going on here but OP what does she do if she's in school? Say it's 5 min to break and she's asked if she can wait?

Well OP thought it was fine for kids to pee in car parks, now she knows not everyone agrees so that’s a gain. 6 isn’t a ‘small child’, it’s just a child.

Viviennemary · 05/09/2025 22:17

Behind a bush - ok. In a car park no.

Namechangerage · 05/09/2025 22:18

bigageap · 05/09/2025 22:14

I couldn’t care less but the pearl clutches are out in force!

Good for you I guess? And that’s why car parks smell of piss.

ToysRus56 · 05/09/2025 22:18

Aww I wouldn't have minded in the slightest! She's only small. I'd have done the same xxx

DidILetHerDown · 05/09/2025 22:18

Honestly, this happened with my daughter, who was 7 at the time, but with my in laws. It was a quiet car park and no public loos nearby. Even then she didn't fully make it on time.

She's also occasionally had similar at home (not making it up the stairs in time) and coming home from school.

It's not great, but some kids really can't hold it and then you're just onto minimising the problem. It's coming out and either it's in the gutter, or you've got a pee soaked child to somehow get home. If you're slow making the decision you might have both.

So do I think it's 'right' that she peed in the car park - no. Do I think sometimes the 'wrong' decision is the necessary one in the circumstances - probably.

And no, my child doesn't have any medical needs, just likely ADHD and only realises last minute. She normally goes before she leaves if it's a long journey, but in the car park case for the in laws, it was a only 5 minute journey, but 5 minutes too long.
