after a bemused trip to the park I noticed…..
Dog ice cream, I mean really … do dogs even need or want this ?
I’ve also seen:
Dog bubbles flavoured with bacon
Dog beds for the car
Dog Prams
Dog carriers

I agree they don’t need ice cream. But mine needed a pram after a cruciate operation.

bimbodoc · 01/09/2025 22:29

Look up whether they needed the cruciate operation!

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 01/09/2025 22:29

It's the hairy pound innit

SallyD00lally · 01/09/2025 22:29

Do humans need ice cream?

The whole point of ice cream is that it's nice, but it's not a need for anyone.

Dogs don't any treats and again, nor do humans.

Starling7 · 01/09/2025 22:29

People don't 'need' ice cream either

MidnightPatrol · 01/09/2025 22:30

I thought dog prams were silly but I’ve now realised they’re used for elderly dogs with poor mobility - so they can still go out for some fresh air. Which is actually quite sweet.

As for a dog bed for the car… mine has something that looks a bit like this, and it’s because otherwise they’d slide off the seat into the footwell all the time. The bed keeps them chilling in one place securely, as it has an edge around it.

Ferretmad2 · 01/09/2025 22:30

Well humans don't need ice cream either... My dog certainly likes ice cream though, its the joining in with the rest of the family more than anything for him.

Keeps the hair off the seats too.

My dog walker walks a dog in a buggy. Madness.

Gosh I hope they did. It cost me an awful lot of money. 😂

PolkaDotPorridge · 01/09/2025 22:36

Tell us you know nothing about dogs without telling us…

Briningitallin · 01/09/2025 22:38

Our last dog absolutely loved ice cream. It gave me immense pleasure buying her an ice cream and watching her eat it. On holiday in Spain on a hot day, it felt good to give her an ice cream.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/09/2025 22:38

Oh great another one 😂

It’ll be one of the usual suspects, hence the user name 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 they can’t hide who they are for long. Will come out in what they say.

marshmallowfinder · 01/09/2025 22:40

Clothes.

Artifishal · 01/09/2025 22:42

My dog would argue his case that he needs ice cream.

He also has a dog buggy because he's 15 and cannot manage a full day out walking with the rest of the family any more.

And of course he has a bed for the car 🤨

AcquadiP · 01/09/2025 22:43

My dog has a waterproof bed in my car for two reasons. Firstly, it's easier to clean dog hair and mud off her bed than it is the car seats. Secondly, when we've been to the coast and she's wet from being in the sea, the moisture in her coat doesn't soak into my car seat fabric. Her bed protects my car and makes my life easier and I wouldn't be without it.

Icecream. I eat lots of ice cream during hot weather. I buy my dog ice cream because it keeps her cool and because she enjoys it.

In both cases my dog, my money, my choice.

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 01/09/2025 22:43

Dog owners will literally buy anything with the word dog in it, or a dog on it. Especially if it resembles their dog.

It's so weird. The retailers are on it though.

Easy money.

whiteroseredrose · 01/09/2025 22:45

Our dog needed a carrier when he got old. He could walk a little bit but needed rests.

I'm with you on the ice cream and puppochinos though.

SoloSofa24 · 01/09/2025 22:47

Dogs don't need ice cream, but neither do people.

I am not in favour of treating dogs like children (eg dressing them up, unless they are thin-coated breeds and really need to be kept warm), but dog prams are actually great for elderly dogs, who get great sensory enrichment just from being out in the fresh air where they can absorb all the smells, or being taken to green spaces for a potter around, when they wouldn't be able to walk all the way there and back.

There are vast quantities of things that people spend money on that are not necessary, but bring them pleasure and contribute to their overall quality of life. Who actually needs to get their nails done or wear make up or drink fancy coffees or go on trips to the theatre or holidays abroad? But life would be much more miserable for many people if they didn't spend money on unnecessary things, whether it is for themselves or their pets.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/09/2025 22:48

Dog prams weren't a thing when I was growing up with an old arthritic dog who liked a mooch to sniff around. I would say that a dog pram would have been useful, but he'd have needed more of a doggy flat bed trolley.

Things like icecream.are a gimmick to part fools and their money. If it's that hot, the dog's better off staying cool at home anyway.

Flowerduvets · 01/09/2025 22:49

Dog prams are for elderly, disabled or unwell dogs - we used one at the end of our dogs life and it greatly improved the quality of his last months.
Dog carrier - we had one for our new puppy to socialise him before he had finished his vaccinations and when he couldn't be exercised much when he was very young (bad for their joints)
Dog beds in cars - practical, keep the car clean

Dogs don't need yet another ridiculous thread started by a person who knows absolutely nothing about dogs.

Honestly, Mumsnet 2025 will only be remembered for bloody dog threads.

It's like as soon as the clock struck midnight on NYE, Mumsnet went mad for moany dog threads 😳
