It's the power of the pooch pound. Some people like to treat their children, others like to treat their pets.

No, she clearly meant "only humane" as in "It's only basic humanity to provide baskets on long journeys." Only decent, only ordinary consideration... She was underscoring that it would be unkind and a bit cruel not to provide a bed. (My former dog would have ignored it and sat in the most uncomfortable footwell with her head around the gearstick, though.)

She didn't say "only on long car journeys."

Being Santa to doggies is a new career path I hadn't considered but now NEED to pursue.

It was not clear to me. I am autistic so that may have had something to do with it.
Thanks for making it clearer as @BIossomtoes didn't.

They don’t need:
highly scented grooming products
dyed fur
sunglasses
hats
clothes that are just for accessorising, obvs some breeds need warming or cooling though

hereismydog · 02/09/2025 15:47

My neighbour takes her lovely old dog out in a little cart (not a pram, because he is rather large!) every day for a bit of fresh air. He is a 15 year old spaniel who can’t walk far anymore, and she is 90. I suspect she knows he will be her last dog and that he is unlikely to see another year, so I think she is making the most of the time they have left together. He still seems very happy to be out in his little cart, and you can see how much she adores her boy.

I didn’t need to. It was perfectly clear to begin with.

Dog Halloween costumes
Dog birthday cards
Dog perfume
Dog easter eggs
Dog disco
Dog LIPSTICK, wtaf
Other chavvy dog rubbish

Leave them alone ffs. They are not dolls, let them be dogs. Feed them some meat based shit, run them ragged, groom as and when, nice cosy spot for the night, job done.

Dog owners-the people who sell this shit are laughing at you.

I think you misunderstand what dog lipstick actually is. I can give you a clue. It is not something you buy.

I have never heard of a dog disco. But the rest is fun stuff that a lot of dog owners buy and enjoy.

I wasn't to me, and two other posters.
But I am not going to get into a discussion about it. Pointless.

Oh yes agree with all those.
But they do need goggles to keep bits out of their eyes when they’re in the front bike pannier, whizzing along, ears flapping.

Hoppinggreen · 02/09/2025 15:54

Mine loves his beef flavoured bubbles and his ice cream
Kids don't NEED bubbles or ice cream either

I thought dog prams were silly but I’ve now realised they’re used for elderly dogs with poor mobility - so they can still go out for some fresh air. Which is actually quite sweet.

As for a dog bed for the car… mine has something that looks a bit like this, and it’s because otherwise they’d slide off the seat into the footwell all the time. The bed keeps them chilling in one place securely, as it has an edge around it.

Yep, I have a dog buggy, I know they're cringe and I'm aware people will judge me/think I'm treating my dog like an accessory, but it's the only way to get one of my rescue dogs out of the house, she's a small (sadly poorly bred) chihuahua with a history of strokes. My other chihuahua trots beside us or sometimes wants to go in too.

I don't really mind if people find it silly/funny but some people can openly be really rude about it.

chattyness · 02/09/2025 16:06

Nothing wrong with home made dog friendly ice cream, as you don't give them lots of it every day. I make some for my dog from time to time. It's a healthy cooling treat on a hot day if you do it right and don't give them a tub full at a time, banana, strawberries, blueberries, blended with yoghurt, spread on one of those licking mats and freeze for a couple of hours. If you give them the frozen treat in the shade it can last a good twenty minutes which can really help to keep them calm & cool down.

Dog chews in shapes & colours designed to appeal to humans.

Wtf

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 02/09/2025 16:18

I do goats milk ice cubes for my girl. She also has sheep milk yoghurt sometimes, but that's about as indulgent as it gets for us.
I'm just old and very boring, but she doesn't seem to mind.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 02/09/2025 16:33

There’s plenty of things dogs don’t need just like there’s plenty of things humans don’t need but they’re nice to have, like ice cream/ doggy ice cream (although mine prefer plain vanilla human ice cream).

Things I do judge though (mainly on social media as they’re purely for the likes) are Billy type dogs in massive bead necklaces as a collar which wouldn’t do anything as an actual collar especially if the dog attacked. People who put their dogs in doggy pyjamas for bed time despite them spending the day naked!

My dog has doggy PJs. She is an elderly greyhound with hardly any body fat. She gets really cold at night. She used to keep waking me up and trying to get under the duvet (she sleeps on my bed), then overheating and waking me up getting out again. Since she starting wearing PJs, she sleeps through the night (so do I).

mamagogo1 · 02/09/2025 16:46

@NNforthispost. Best menu I ever saw was in Hexham but that was 2019, there’s a few places in Bristol with dog menus, my ddog alas is no longer with us so my knowledge is 2 years out of date now

Bless. Ignorance is bliss for some. You wetting your panties about "Dog LIPSTICK, wtaf" is causing all the dog owners to point and laugh at you.

Yes but I bet she also wears a coat when she goes out when it’s cold, so she needs them!

The ones in particular I’m thinking of are huskies, huskies, the big, hairy dogs specifically bred for snow!

Yes, that makes no sense to me. Although, huskies as pets in the UK makes no sense to me.

Wtf

I will admit, when I shopping for food and treats for my dog, I tend to go for flavours that I like the sound of 😅

Clevs · 02/09/2025 19:03

In the last few days I’ve seen two local cafe’s/pubs advertising “breakfast with Santa” with a puppacino & toy and the other advertising to meet “Santa Paws” which includes a dog meal & drink, cupcake, visit to the grotto, present and Christmas cracker.

That’s just bonkers.

😂😂😂 Well it'd be good to use on MN any time a dog hater is frothing away and being a knob...

Yes, I am going to remember it for later.
They are usually obsessed with poo and bum holes though. Are there appropriate emojis for those?
Maybe 🍩as it seems to cover both 😂
