What dogs don't need to do is spend their free time on the Internet bitching. Lovely souls. Which is why I beam with delight if I see one walking up to me. If it were you, not so much.

CocoQueen2024 · 02/09/2025 05:48

My dog doesnt need toys but he has a splendid collection of them. Here he is with his newest toy. He also has two beds❤️

Well, maybe they don’t but what difference does it make to you and why are you feeling so strongly about other’s choices?

My dog walker walks a dog in a buggy. Madness.

It isn't madness. My dog couldn't walk for 6 months. Taking her out in the pram, however silly I felt, did wonders for her. She enjoyed being out and seeing the others in her pack! And realistically if a dog walker is paid to push a pram....why not.

LandSharksAnonymous · 02/09/2025 06:18

My dog doesn’t need a giant sex elephant. But he has one.

All of mine also doesn’t need a variety of optional things but they get them because I am lucky enough that I can afford them and indulging my dogs and my children is one of life’s little joys.

But by all means, be a sour puss.

I was one of those people who thought dog prams were stupid…until we needed one with our old girl for the last couple of years of her life. It made a HUGE difference and really helped us and her.
We also had a dog bed in the car as it’s saved our seats from mud/hair/dirt so we never had to completely clean the car out before someone else could get in.

Clearly the wider population does - these threads are very popular and repeatedly occur for a good reason…

Or maybe it’s just the same handful of miserable dog haters taking shifts so it looks busy.

HeatherXoXo · 02/09/2025 06:37

Of all the people I know I’m going to have to deal with today, my dog will be the only one who gets a digestive biscuit as a reward for being the best girl. The rest of my team, no biscuits.

Whaleandsnail6 · 02/09/2025 06:46

You could argue humans don't need ice cream or or scented bubbles. They are just a nice enrichment thing to have

And a lot of dogs with pain/disabilities need carriers or buggys as they struggle to walk

bed for the car? Ok, I guess my dog doesn't need that but she would be pretty uncomfortable without it as she lies in the boot.

Shall we list all of the things humans dont need? 🙄

Mumofyellows · 02/09/2025 07:05

My dogs love an ice cream on a warm day and if I’m buying one for myself then I’ll also get one for them. It’s a treat, not a need, in the same way we don’t need ice cream 🙄
my dogs love playing with their bacon bubbles in the garden but I don’t love the smell 🤣 they like chasing them and it entertains them for a while.
Some dogs will use a pram if they are too old to walk far but still like to be out and about so it gives them quality of life…I don’t see the problem with that?
my dogs have raincoats for walks on a rainy day where there might be an opportunity to stop in a coffee shop, to prevent them being all soggy in a cafe, they are very useful. As are their dressing gowns which they wear at home to dry off quicker and to stop the them dripping everywhere when they are wet…
Oh they love a puppacino too. We love our dogs, so we give them nice things 🤷🏽‍♀️

heartsinvisiblefury · 02/09/2025 07:12

What does it matter OP? Why do dog owners spending money on what they want bother you? Humans don’t need ice creams or extra blankets but we buy them because we want to.

This is lovely! And correct!!!

My dog walker walks a dog in a buggy. Madness.

I haven't got one but I know people who've used them for elderly dogs. They can walk them down the road to a suitable place where they can get out for a bit and have a wander round. I have a back pack dog carrier for my small, elderly dog. She can walk quite a long way but we carry her if she gets too tired (after 7 or 8 miles usually).

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/09/2025 07:22

Artifishal · 01/09/2025 22:42

My dog would argue his case that he needs ice cream.

He also has a dog buggy because he's 15 and cannot manage a full day out walking with the rest of the family any more.

And of course he has a bed for the car 🤨

If I had a talking dog that could put forward a coherent case for needing ice cream I would let them have anything they wanted! Except chocolate, grapes, avocados etc.

BarnOwlFlying · 01/09/2025 23:02

Dogs don’t need to go in precious, ecological sensitive chalk streams, especially when they have flea and tick treatment.
I feel so angry when ever I see dog owners let their dogs destroy these rare sites.

Humans are the greatest polluters of these fragile environments. Sewage, agricultural chemicals, microplastics. Do you honestly think dogs pose the biggest threat to these wildlife habitats?

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 02/09/2025 07:31

Haha good one..

My dog loves an ice cream, especially after a good long walk when I have a cuppa and a slice of vegan cake or dd has a coke and a cornetto.

The only "need" in any of that is the exercise, however we all want and enjoy things we dont need.

@Someonelookedatmypostinghistorysoichanged you don't need to post goady post on MN, but you wanted to, so you did. Ergo unfortunately you just blew your own ridiculous argument out of the water. Please look up the definition of irony...I think you might find it educational.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 02/09/2025 07:31

Pryceosh1987 · 02/09/2025 00:52

Dog nappies. I think this is good, but dogs use the "loo" alot more than people do sadly.

I bought some reusable dog nappies yesterday. I've been warning girl dog for weeks now that if she didn't stop peeing on the kitchen floor at night she'd be getting some.

I know what she's like, she's going to hate wearing a nappy just as much as she hated the Christmas jumper DS bought her one year (didn't take her long to learn how to wiggle it off, clever girl).

But she kept on peeing, so yesterday I told her, enough is enough, it's a nappy for you! And ordered some.

Got up this morning, no pee on the kitchen floor. Clever girl, but too late. Consequences see.

Batshitkerazy · 02/09/2025 08:04

Dogs like an ice cream, same as humans, so why not 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mg Cavalier absolutely adores chasing and catching bubbles, it’s good enrichment and exercise for her. But she needs dog friendly ones as it’s bad for her to ingest normal ones

LessOfThis · 02/09/2025 08:34

Dog owners will literally buy anything with the word dog in it, or a dog on it. Especially if it resembles their dog.

It's so weird. The retailers are on it though.

Easy money.

And this effects you how, exactly?

Echobowels · 02/09/2025 08:59

Well, my guinea pigs get a Christmas stocking!

Not really. I presume if this dog is in a pushchair it’s because the dog is disabled, elderly, unable to walk far or at all for one reason or another and getting them out in a pushchair means they’re still getting stimulation and interaction.

mumto2teenagers · 02/09/2025 09:08

Some dogs do need prams and carriers, dog beds are handy for the car less hairs on the seats.

Ice cream and dog bubbles are not essential, but are just a bit of fun. As are all the other fun things I get for our dogs, although I suspect my DH would agree with you as he rolls his eyes everytime I show him the latest dog related purchase 😀

MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast · 02/09/2025 09:16

You're a bit dim OP. So let me try and reframe this for you relating it to something you understand

dog carriers/buggies - imagine saying the human species doesn't need wheelchairs or walking aids? Nasty and spiteful.

car beds - imagine saying children don't need car seats. Dangerous and stupid.

ice cream - humans don't need it either, but we buy it.

Bacon flavoured bubbles - I give you: the Stanley cup craze, that other bottle thing with the favoured tops that the kids are all using, tea with elaborate ceremonies, coffee, wine, wine in specific wine glasses, martinis, martinis in martini glasses... none of these things are necessary. But we like them. Well most us do... those of us who don't wake up miserable every day that is!
