after a bemused trip to the park I noticed…..
Dog ice cream, I mean really … do dogs even need or want this ?
I’ve also seen:
Dog bubbles flavoured with bacon
Dog beds for the car
Dog Prams
Dog carriers

See, for me this kind of thing is innocuous in that it's not going to actively harm them, but I find it deeply odd. Dogs don't have a concept of going to see Santa. I'm sure they enjoy the walk and the treats, but the rest is just weird projection by their owners.

The owners enjoy it. The dog and the owner have a nice time together. It's obvious. I don't think I'd do it but people like different things, so what?

Butchyrestingface · 02/09/2025 12:51

You should SEE the state-of-the-art, battery operated, wireless, LED lit, activated carbon filter, ultra-quiet with dry run protection and motion sensor water fountain I bought for my parrots just because, @Someonelookedatmypostinghistorysoichanged .

Only the best for mama’s wee precious. It wasn’t even their birthdays. 😍

I bet I could name quite a few things that you don’t need, access to Mumsnet being one of them, but here you are, using it. 99% of things are a want not a need. For both dogs and humans.

MoominMai · 02/09/2025 13:07

Capitalism baby - doesn’t differentiate between the species.

Neither do babies.
It is a nice thing to do though, and you get a photo. One day, photos will be all you have of your dog.

Dog beds in cars are only humane on long journeys.

So they are inhumane on short ones?

So they are inhumane on short ones?

Always one. 🙄

Always one. 🙄

Sorry but I don't understand. You said it is only humane to have a dog bed in the car for long journeys. Which would imply that they are unsuitable for short journeys.

That’s what you inferred. It was never implied. Stop being so disingenuous.

Always one. 🙄

Make that two, because I don't know what you mean either. Why are they only humane on long journeys?

BarnOwlFlying · 01/09/2025 23:02

Dogs don’t need to go in precious, ecological sensitive chalk streams, especially when they have flea and tick treatment.
I feel so angry when ever I see dog owners let their dogs destroy these rare sites.

I spy East Herts since we have some of the very few ? 👀

IllBeLookingAtTheMoon · 02/09/2025 14:10

No, she clearly meant "only humane" as in "It's only basic humanity to provide baskets on long journeys." Only decent, only ordinary consideration... She was underscoring that it would be unkind and a bit cruel not to provide a bed. (My former dog would have ignored it and sat in the most uncomfortable footwell with her head around the gearstick, though.)

She didn't say "only on long car journeys."

Being Santa to doggies is a new career path I hadn't considered but now NEED to pursue.

Ah I understand now. Probably more obvious in spoken conversation as I did not pick that up at all from her post.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 02/09/2025 14:16

I didn't understand the bed thing either. We don't have a bed for the car, just a blanket, there wouldn't be enough space for a bed. My dogs don't even have a bed at home.

JurassicPark4Eva · 02/09/2025 14:17

What's wrong with a dog bed for the car? My entire boot is a massive bed for my massive dog so she's not being bounced around on hardboard when we go places. We will do a 5hr drive on Friday, why wouldn't I want her to be comfortable and safe?

The prams and buggies are stupid for fit and healthy animals but when my mates dog was in her last year or so of her life it meant they could still take her to the long distance hikes she adored when younger but couldn't manage. That was very sweet.

Pricelessadvice · 02/09/2025 14:19

And kids don’t need most of the ridiculous tat/days out that parents spend loads of money on, but they still do it.

Let people live the life they want, with their own money.

whattheysay · 02/09/2025 14:24

We are looking at a dog pram for our aging boy. The younger one can do faster and longer and it wouldn’t be fair on him to leave him at home.

Imagineallthepuppies · 02/09/2025 14:32

My dog got doggy doughnuts on the beach after scaring off an intruder last winter. I do not care that dogs don’t need doughnuts, he bloody deserved them and it distracted him from eating seaweed

MrMucker · 02/09/2025 14:53

Dog Halloween costumes
Dog birthday cards
Dog perfume
Dog easter eggs
Dog disco
Dog LIPSTICK, wtaf
Other chavvy dog rubbish

Leave them alone ffs. They are not dolls, let them be dogs. Feed them some meat based shit, run them ragged, groom as and when, nice cosy spot for the night, job done.

Dog owners-the people who sell this shit are laughing at you.

Onleemoi · 02/09/2025 15:00

Oh no, how will they cope with people laughing?

ObtuseMoose · 02/09/2025 15:02

The judgement of yet another dog hating MN thread!

Dabberlocks · 02/09/2025 15:19

Dog chews in shapes & colours designed to appeal to humans.

Onleemoi · 02/09/2025 15:24

What human finds dog chews appealing 🤣

Clutching at straws people!
