Couple having sex in front of window

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 10:05

My children’s bedrooms looks out toward a house in the distance that has a bedroom in which looks like a converted loft. They have big floor to ceiling windows and NO curtains.
We were told by my neighbour once that he saw the occupiers there having sex in full view in front of the window - this was during an afternoon.
My husband also witnessed their act just last night when settling the kids to bed. It’s not hard to miss because their light is on and they’re BIG windows. My husband said he saw a lot of detail.
Not to sound prude but I’m really concerned about my children one day seeing them doing it. I have both sons and a daughter and don’t really want to expose them to sex in this way.

I’ve been told I don’t really have much right to complain because it’s within their own home but I am thinking of writing a letter to politely ask if they would be able to get some blinds or curtains installed.
If they ignore it, is there anything else I could do?
What would you do?

My guess is they might enjoy the fact that other adults can see them but not have considered that children could be watching too.
Hopefully they'd feel sick at the thought if it's pointed out to them.

This floated past my FB feed (I am an observer of "Angry people in local newspapers" which rather seems to suit the vibe)

https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/police-called-woman-climbs-car-10464502

This woman sounds like the same kind of attention seeking prat who likes to shag in front of an open window for all to see. Pathetic. Anyone who supports this kind of needy, attention seeking, childish behaviour, needs to give their head a wobble.

Whatafustercluck · 31/08/2025 13:54

Yeah, I'm pretty open minded about quite a lot of things, and not a prude, but I wouldn't want my young dc to see that. It's fairly obvious they know they can be seen and will be getting a kick out of it. I think I'd be letting them know I don't want my dc to see their sex show, thanks.

Blooming Nora - Props to the bloke with a massive penis that can be spotted from [nearly] a mile away.

This.

some people on this site are absolutely bat shit.

There are certainly a small number on this thread.

ObstinateHeadstrong · 31/08/2025 13:55

You say it's been resolved so I hope you're right. My hall of residence at university faced a set of private flats. There was a man who kept exposing himself to the female students and we were told that we should report it to the police if we saw it as this is indecent exposure and is a crime. I cannot see how having visibly and obviously having sex is not also the crime of indecent exposure (or worse). They're absolutely breaking the law and posters saying to mind your own business are either fools or criminally minded themselves.

Whatafustercluck · 31/08/2025 13:56

Sorry op, just seen your update. How was it resolved?

Shelly369 · 31/08/2025 13:56

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 13:47

It’s been resolved now and I thank everyone who agreed that it’s not acceptable at all. To those who even considered it to be (given children were in the equation) either don’t have kids themselves or if they do, don’t give two about them!
Also says a lot about one’s character when defending such action.

Glad you’ve sorted it. Surprising isn’t it on mumsnet, how many people think it’s acceptable and those that make fucking stupid benny hill type jokes.

Speaks volumes about those posters doesn't it? Wink

hididdlyho · 31/08/2025 13:57

Can you block the view by strategically planting something tall in your garden? I don't think there's anything wrong with posting a note in this situation, given you don't know these people and it's a pretty sensitive subject.

Yep. Makes you wonder about this place.

LovingLimePeer · 31/08/2025 13:58

I would report this as a non-urgent report to the police. They won't do this again if they are spoken to and are aware that they are at risk of being prosecuted.

The OP says it's now resolved, but hasn't said how yet. @doremifaso what happened? Did you talk to them?

Swimswans · 31/08/2025 14:03

I have a similar situation, but in the opposite apartment building.
My child already saw them at it.
I didnt quite understand what she was trying to tell me and then I saw it happening myself.
This time my child was with the back to their window on her tablet, so I stood there waving at them until they saw me (i did not enjoy this at all, felt very uncomfortable). But they finally looked my way and I pointed at my child and made "are you mad" faces at them.
They ran to their bedroom (presumably) and it did not happen again yet.
If it would I already decided to put a letter in EVERY mailbox of the building, describing them extensively and ask them to stop having sex in front of my child. To hopefully shame them into stopping.
It is illegal though. I know that for sure. Imagine walking down your street and there would be people having sex at the window in their living room. Ofcourse not.

FamBae · 31/08/2025 14:09

I would speak to them directly and point out that your children's bedrooms overlook thier property, if they are decent people they will be horrified. Should they do it again I would follow this with a letter adding despite our conversation on such and such a date etc etc. and keep a copy so that they can't argue it was a one off; then if they still continued to do it I would get the police involved and report them for indecent exposure, and yes this is illegal.

What is everyone going on about? You can’t just ‘do what you want in your own house’ ffs. Is it ok for someone to stand bollock naked at their window and masturbate for everyone to see? No. No it’s not! And it’s not OP’s job to make sure her kids have to hide behind curtains in their own home to avoid them seeing a pair of idiots shagging. You’re will within your rights to phone the police if you want. You’re not allowed to just bang away in full view of people … believe it or not! Ffs.

This 100% !

InterestedDad37 · 31/08/2025 14:14

Give them anonymous marks out 10 posted through the letterbox for their performance, along the lines of:
"6/10 for yesterday evening's sexual antics... we felt that he could try to ensure that she climaxes first, and she should be aware that he's likely to get cramp if he he has to maintain that position for too long"

SerendipityJane · 31/08/2025 14:15

I really hope the OP cancels the cheque.

GreenFlag · 31/08/2025 14:18

It always surprises me how MN attracts the sort of people who want to normalise this kind of behaviour

Calliecarpa · 31/08/2025 14:21

Glad it's been resolved, OP. This has been a completely batshit thread even by AIBU standards. So many incredibly hilarious and wildly original and clever comments about binoculars. Wow, so damn funny. You must all so be proud of yourselves, cackling away about how brilliant you are. 🙄

Of all the insanely stupid posts in this thread, the one that said the OP and her DH should give their kids binoculars so they can be 'educated' about adults having sex was definitely the worst. Get a fucking grip.

Diblin93 · 31/08/2025 14:24

, exhibitionism, also known as indecent exposure, is against the law in the UK and many other countries. In the UK, the act of intentionally exposing one's genitals in public to cause alarm or distress to others is a criminal offense. Convictions for indecent exposure can result in penalties such as fines, community service, or even a prison sentence, and may require the offender to register on the sex offender registe

SamphiretheTervosaur · 31/08/2025 14:26

Manybyears ago we had the same issue

Police said they could do nothing as they man said he had no idea he could.be seen

Policewoman a week later told him he had been told, she would be happy to embarrass him with an arrest for lewd conduct, exhibitionism and anything else she could think of if he did it

Next door neighbour wanted to take a photograph as proof, was quickly told to do no such thing.

I felt sorry for the multiple women involved as they maybhave had no idea. He absolutely did, he even waved when getting a blow job

After a couple of years his flat was raided by police. He had waved at the top deck of a bus... the teacher in charge of the kids on the bus told the driver to stop while she called the police. His charges then included something about causing a child to watch

As far as I know he got 2 years suspended

And he moved.

It's exhibitionism and too many men think it's funny

Care to enlighten me with your pass agg emoticon? Use your words, as they say to children.

Since you need things spelling out, like a toddler does, here you go…

Why shouldn’t posters laugh at a sex story from an anonymous person about two other anonymous people, with details so vague that nobody can have any idea at all whether there’s any genuine issue in the first place and in which no harm has come to any person (if the story’s even true in the first place)?

Are you seriously saying that people shouldn’t find humour in this subject? Seriously?
