To think Tesco should fuck off

It’s still August for fucks sake.

Does ANYONE want to see Christmas shit in the supermarkets in the summer holidays?

To think Tesco should fuck off

It’s annoying. It makes Christmas in December less special and then people are taking down their trees and buying Easter eggs by Boxing Day. It’s nicer to enjoy things at the time than race to get through them.
A few years ago I went for a pub lunch with my school mum friends to “celebrate” back to school. It was the first week in September and we were at a table next to a fully decorated Christmas tree with piles of fake presents under it in our sundresses and shorts.

I might possibly have bought a few giant Smarties tubes today. For the children, obvs.

I went online this evening to see if Fortnums had their Halloween hampers up.

They do, but they won't dispatch them yet so I had to pre-order them.
They didn't seem to have most of their usual Autumn range up which I was looking forward to, so couldn't get any of that either.

I could have ordered Christmas advent calendars, sweets and biscuits for next day delivery though.

Christmas should wait it's turn.
Autumn is our favourite season and Halloween is my sons favourite holiday of the year.

We want time to enjoy having all the autumn stuff up, getting the fluffy blankets out and tramping through the rain while leaves fall off the tree, to make recipes with various squash, eat apple and cinnamon curd roly poly or apple and blackberry crumble and all the good autumn stuff before we think about Christmas.

I wish they'd keep Christmas food out of the shops until November.

I don’t think Tesco putting out their Quality Street and Roses is going to stop you from getting out a fluffy blanket and making middle class desserts.

Money is really tight for us so I welcome the chance to spread the cost.

Will they still be in date by December or will you have to eat them all by mid November?

Choclabratwatowner88 · 28/08/2025 22:40

I mean as someone who works in retail, they’ve been doing this for the last like 10 years. The last week of August, the same way creme eggs come out on Boxing Day. It’s not new…it gets posted about every year, yet the following year people are still surprised. 🙄

Rosesanddaffs · 28/08/2025 22:42

It’s getting earlier every year, it takes the magic out of Christmas. If it were October I’d get it, but we are still in August!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 28/08/2025 19:24

I love love love Christmas. But it has to be after Halloween at least for festivities. YANBU

It has to be winter for Christmas and we aren’t even properly (calendar-wise) into autumn yet!

grrrlatrix · 28/08/2025 22:45

I am a huge Christmas fan, but from December 1st only please.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 28/08/2025 22:46

What it's not even Halloween yet!!!

EasySqueezy · 28/08/2025 22:50

What is more worrying, is that food is so ultra processed that it lasts until December.

Yesidoactually · 28/08/2025 22:54

Things should not have a sell by date which is before the event. Mince pies should not be out of date by the middle of October when there's still two months to go until Christmas 😠

It's a shame because it takes away that excitement when it does get nearer like we've seen it all now!
It always makes me feel like I'm behind as well as I haven't even thought about it yet.

itispersonal · 28/08/2025 23:04

For just listing Tescos! They are all at it! It’s still summer!

babyproblems · 28/08/2025 23:06

I love Xmas but it’s only acceptable after Halloween. Any earlier is criminal. Xx

Yes! I don’t want to be stressing out about planning Christmas presents in August!

I hope the mince pies aren't last years

'This years' will have been made ages ago, I think that March was the peak month for a company making Christmas puddings.

KeenGreen · 28/08/2025 23:10

Came back from a camping trip the other day and then marched into B&M to buy another camping light as my new one was so good wanted more.
Straight to seasonal aisle to be confronted by Christmas.

It feels earlier every year and all stores do it.

But OP I’m with you and Tesco can FK right off with that cardboard signage.. too far Tesco, too far. shakes head in dismay

Pushmepullu · 28/08/2025 23:14

They’ve got Footballs. There’s been a bit of a shortage the past couple of years.

lifeonmars100 · 28/08/2025 23:15

I have already posted on here about truly dreading Christmas this year due to the sudden traumatic death of a young family member and I am sure I am not the only person who is going to find the festive season challenging. I do not know how I am going to cope with 3 months of build up and happy family stuff when my family is barely coping with day to day life .Leaving my personal reasons aside, it is just gross to start the build up so early, it takes all the magic and anticipation away, it makes it stale and tedious. I totally undestand that people like to get started early because of the cost and the stress but even these two reasons show what a cash grab it has become.

And what supermarket it’s going to be ? Just curious

Edited

A Lidl!!! They'll give Tesco a good run for their money. I'm going to flick the Vs at Tesco every time I go there 😁 Childish I know...

Pistachiocake · 28/08/2025 23:21

Last year Home Bargains did it earlier-some people get it early. They wouldn't do it if we didn't buy it.

SequoiaTree · 28/08/2025 23:36

Sainsbury's had a stand of bakery mince pies today.
