It’s still August for fucks sake.

Does ANYONE want to see Christmas shit in the supermarkets in the summer holidays?

Then dont buy it, sure i roll my eyes when I first see it but no one is forcing me to buy it, why does it matter?

Oh god I’ve given them free advertising haven’t I 😬

Ask for the thread to be removed, do not give them any free advertising otherwise they'll have it in store by Easter.

I tell Tesco to fuck off every week. Can't wait for the new supermarket that's opening soon.

And what supermarket it’s going to be ? Just curious

Have they got mince pies? They sell hot cross buns for eleven months of the year so why not mince pies?!

I'm so used to seeing hot cross buns that I don't even question it anymore. I bought some a few days ago, actually and worse than buying out of season, I didn't buy any at Easter! That's the problem, things that are available year round are no longer associated with the event and it loses some magic.

deeahgwitch · 28/08/2025 21:50

The Range have their Christmas stuff on some shelves. 😱
They can feck off too @ThisCanFuckOffToo

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 28/08/2025 21:29

We often amuse ourselves in the supermarket when they put this stuff out ridiculously early by checking to see what the earliest sell by date is. I think last year it was BBE October 2024 on a box of Mr Kipling mince pies.

Presumably they could be frozen if people don't actually want to eat them until Christmas Day.

Nopenott0day · 28/08/2025 21:52

If you all vote me as supreme dictator, then I promise to ban Christmas from shops til last week in November.

Sunshineandoranges · 28/08/2025 21:53

B&M too..socks, Advent calendars who buys this stuff in August/ September

MyOliveStork · 28/08/2025 21:55

I would love to celebrate autumn and all that it involves rather than Christmas being thrust down my throat from September onwards. Beginning to hate bloody Christmas!

Libertysparkle · 28/08/2025 21:55

I'd prefer not to see the back to school on the first day of summer holidays 🤣

True but I wonder how many people are purchasing them under the assumption that they are well in date and then getting an unpleasant surprise.

I avoid this by not buying them until December and then eating my own body weight in them for the following three weeks!

I suppose people that only buy what they can carry so shop several times a week.
Not everyone can bulk buy in one go.

x2boys · 28/08/2025 19:20

It gets earlier and earlier !

People have been saying that since I was little in the 1980s and, i’m sure, long before that. I’m not sure if it really is getting earlier 🤷🏻‍♀️

RedRiverShore5 · 28/08/2025 21:58

Hopefully M&S will have some of their puff pastry mince pies in, we generally start early with them

I honestly don't remember seeing this stuff in shops in August in the 80s or 90s.

Northquit · 28/08/2025 22:02

4 paydays to Christmas.

For some people it's a time to start planning.

RickertyRocker · 28/08/2025 22:08

I worked for John Lewis many years ago. Christmas decorations always replaced garden furniture the second week of September.

As other people have said, it's only 4 paydays until Christmas.

Halloween of definitely more of a thing.

tinytemper66 · 28/08/2025 22:08

I am in France at the moment and there is none of this shit in any of the many supermarkets I have frequented this week!

Theunamedcat · 28/08/2025 22:10

Planning gifts is one thing mince pies is another

I'm fifty i dont remember haloween being a thing in my town no real trick or treat special sweets we had bonfire toffee (stick your teeth together!) And fireworks in autumn definitely no Christmas until November the season was short! As I got older Easter eggs got earlier and earlier until one new year's eve i found some creme eggs in a garage we went to get petrol at its been down hill from there

Heidi2018 · 28/08/2025 22:14

I much rather see Christmas stuff than the "back to school" signs and shite everywhere

LackOfSleepCBA · 28/08/2025 22:14

I think it's a great idea. It means that you can be organised for Christmas and spread the cost over 4/5 months. Buying some bits each month/payday and putting them away until Christmas, rather than paying out for it all in December. Having plenty of time to choose gifts for family and friends rather than rushing around in December in the dark and cold or doing it last minute.
Christmas stuff makes me feel happy and gives me warm smiley vibes. There's usually pretty decorations to look at, lovely gifts, tasty treats, good food etc.
I can't afford Christmas gifts, food, etc with just one month of pay, so it's wonderful to be able to spread the cost over several months.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 28/08/2025 22:19

I went online this evening to see if Fortnums had their Halloween hampers up.

They do, but they won't dispatch them yet so I had to pre-order them.
They didn't seem to have most of their usual Autumn range up which I was looking forward to, so couldn't get any of that either.

I could have ordered Christmas advent calendars, sweets and biscuits for next day delivery though.

Christmas should wait it's turn.
Autumn is our favourite season and Halloween is my sons favourite holiday of the year.

We want time to enjoy having all the autumn stuff up, getting the fluffy blankets out and tramping through the rain while leaves fall off the tree, to make recipes with various squash, eat apple and cinnamon curd roly poly or apple and blackberry crumble and all the good autumn stuff before we think about Christmas.

I wish they'd keep Christmas food out of the shops until November.

Nope! Yesterday alone I was sent two adverts for a wine advent calendar and a beauty advent calendar. I went to Morrisons and saw an aisle with advent calendars and Christmas chocolate. And then I saw mince pies in Sainsbury’s! I was like it’s still hot and I have to have the fan on at night….nooooo!!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/08/2025 22:23

I LOVE xmas and always take a day off work to go round the shops and buy all kinds of crazy Xmas stuff.....but even for me August is a bit too early.

hmmnotreallysure · 28/08/2025 22:23

Agreed!!
I also went in to Tesco today and saw the Christmas aisle, it really pissed me off!!
