To think Tesco should fuck off

It’s still August for fucks sake.

Does ANYONE want to see Christmas shit in the supermarkets in the summer holidays?

To think Tesco should fuck off

They wouldn’t do it if people didn’t buy it.

Tigger1895 · 28/08/2025 19:51

I thought it was bad enough seeing Halloween stuff. I haven’t noticed Christmas yet. But in your words “Tesco can F off” with that malarkey

ComfortFoodCafe · 28/08/2025 19:29

It wont be long till the creme eggs & easter eggs are on sale.

This is why christmas doesnt feel like christmas anymore.

They go on the display before the end of the year.

Needmorelego · 28/08/2025 19:54

If people don't want to buy this stuff yet (or ever) then just ignore it.
Like seriously it's not hard to do that.
I assume places like B+M have just finished selling lots of garden furniture, ornaments, tools and plants.
I assume they've been selling holiday "essentials" (suitcases, buckets and spades, inflatables etc).
I expect there was BBQs and all the "outdoor living" plates and what not.
I say "assume" because I have no reason to go down that aisle.
I live in a flat so any garden/bbq things I have no need for.
My holiday was a week at my mums house so I don't need holidays stuff either.
Of course actually I do know they sell this stuff because they always do - but I don't need it so I don't even look at it.
Don't want to buy Christmas things yet - then just IGNORE it.

It’s everywhere. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. Simple! Many people do have to start Christmas shopping early as they can’t afford it all at once. They buy a couple of bits each week and put them in the Christmas cupboard.

The shops have conditioned them to do that because they end up spending more that way. It's not about helping people to budget.

If they set aside an amount each month then they'd have enough to get everything they needed in December, but then if unexpected expenses arise the xmas pot gets spent on that instead. If they "spread the cost" by buying xmas stuff between September and December then the money for the unexpected expense has to come from a different pocket, so to speak.

Another thing that happens is that people buy something in October that looks great for little Johnnie. Only come December they start worrying whether the perfectly nice present they bought is enough/really that special (or they forget they bought it) and so buy something else as well.

So people who can't really afford it end up worse off and surrounded by "bits" from B&M.

SummerCanDoOne · 28/08/2025 19:58

It's a bit mental but honestly I cba to get wound up about it.

On the upside it's extra time to spread the cost and by the time Christmas actually rolls round, you have lots of surprise treats!

I am an autumn/winter woman though so...🤷🏼‍♀️

PurpleChrayn · 28/08/2025 19:46

It’s good for people on low incomes who have to buy piecemeal as and when they can afford to.

Edited

But they don't have to do that. The total amount of money they have between the August Bank Holiday and Chrismas Eve is the same whether they spend a little on xmas tat every week or set aside a little each month and do their xmas shopping in December. The retailers know that the first option results in them spending more money overall.

SchnizelVonKrumm · 28/08/2025 20:01

Frenzi · 28/08/2025 19:48

Must add - my xmas shopping is for presents, not xmas stuff. For years I have managed to get all my xmas gift shopping done by November which means December money is for food and days out.

I am not stocking my cupboards with chocolates (because I'd eat them anyway) and brussel sprouts!

Someone in our local FB group always posts a "hilarious" meme around this time of year about "northern nans" putting on the sprouts to boil now 🙄

03cg73 · 28/08/2025 20:02

Tubs of Christmas sweets have appeared in the Asda near me this week

choccychipcookies1988 · 28/08/2025 20:02

I do agree but then wonder if people start buying now to spread the cost?

Hazyjinty · 28/08/2025 20:03

Was in Morrisons today, the full Christmas stock was going out, no Christmas music though

NoThanksNeeded · 28/08/2025 20:03

It gets earlier and earlier !

I'd say it was about a month later this year

Like PP, I can see how people struggling with COL crisis will be putting aside items with long dates, like custard, Christmas pudding, sweets, biscuit and chocolates.

I always get excited in September when mince pies become available

sweeterthantea · 28/08/2025 20:03

I bought a Christmas candle today because it smelt of Christmas lovely

muddyford · 28/08/2025 20:03

Have they got mince pies? They sell hot cross buns for eleven months of the year so why not mince pies?!

Boiledbeetle · 28/08/2025 20:04

ThisCanFuckOffToo · 28/08/2025 19:23

Oh god I’ve given them free advertising haven’t I 😬

Morrisons had tubs of chocolate for father's day, same chocolate still sat there with a Christmas sign on this week "two for whatever".

Rosscameasdoody · 28/08/2025 20:05

Jesus wept, we’re not out of August yet !!

PinkyFlamingo · 28/08/2025 20:06

I never understand why people complain about Christmas stuff being in the shops "too early", why does it annoy them so much if they aren't buying it? Don't like it don't buy it.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 28/08/2025 20:07

ThisCanFuckOffToo · 28/08/2025 19:33

Tbf I do like a mince pie and it did cross my mind if I should buy some and eat them all but I didn’t, it’s the principle of the thing! 🤣

I will not allow myself to get into the mince pies until December 1st. That's my line.

Having said that, I do start looking out for and putting aside gifts and so on for Christmas around August/September if I am feeling organised.

CeciliaDuckiePond · 28/08/2025 20:09

Nofrillsandpeace · 28/08/2025 19:37

It is honestly a wonder they don't sell them all year around, and completely ruin the novelty factor, I wouldn't be surprised.

They tried selling creme eggs all year once in the mid 80s. No one was buying them after a couple of months and they were being sold off at a huge discount - I remember my bargain hunting dad buying about 100 of them 😆

WannabePhotographer · 28/08/2025 20:09

Because some people need to split the cost

Because the Christmas advertising gives it the festive feel and if it starts in August you’re going to be heartily sick of it by the time it actually does roll round. I think it’s jut greed on the part of the retailers.
