It’s still August for fucks sake.

Does ANYONE want to see Christmas shit in the supermarkets in the summer holidays?

Are the people who start talking about cosy jumpers and boots in Aug the same people who take their xmas tree down on boxing day?

smoulderingmould · 28/08/2025 20:35

I think the stock being out longer risks people overspending.

Of course it does

They had christmas music playing in asda the week BEFORE the kids broke up for the 6 week holidays (mid july)

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 28/08/2025 20:39

Only 4 paydays till Christmas. Makes sense to me tbh. Some people have to make their money go further by starting early.

Also, who the fuck cares? About 1000 of these posts every single year. Borrrrring

LozzaCh0ps · 28/08/2025 20:39

Mince pies in Sainsbury’s today 😒

I care because it annoys me that I have to buy early too, you can't wait for Halloween stuff at the end of Oct.

Why the fuck do you care what others care about 😆

No. I take the tree down by 29th, and no August Christmas for me. Cosy dressing is for the appropriate season and weather! I don't know how some people aren't boiling. Even in September there can be some nice weather.

FeministThrowingAPrincessParty · 28/08/2025 20:42

Absolute joke!

smoulderingmould · 28/08/2025 20:43

@Nofrillsandpeace exactly it's still bloody warm 😆

NoodleHorses · 28/08/2025 20:43

There are 12 days of Christmas, none of which are in August (bah humbug).

But surely you could just put what you would spend in August aside and then spend it all in December when it feels festive.

Livelovebehappy · 28/08/2025 20:45

You can tell when the supermarkets are gearing up for Christmas when they have a pyramid of half price tins of Quality Street and Celebrations on display.

Rasell · 28/08/2025 20:45

Omg, I didn't a double take when I saw Tesco stuff today! I'm already confused about the time, what with it being the summer holidays. Another couple of years and it will be year round aisles. Definitely ruining it a bit...it makes it less special the longer it lasts, by Christmas we'll all be so over it.

Warmhandscoldheart · 28/08/2025 20:46

B&M are very confused. Their seasonal aisle is a mixture of Halloween, Christmas stock and Autumn bulbs to plant 🤪😆

I dunno if I should admit it but I have already bought some winter boots and have been looking at cashmere on Vinted but to be fair they’ll be used daily for 5 months which is a bit better than a 5 months preparation for one day 🤣

That's why it's called a "seasonal" aisle and not a "Christmas" aisle 🤷

TroysMammy · 28/08/2025 20:50

The stupid thing is that they are selling mince pies with probably an eat by date of October.

DappledThings · 28/08/2025 20:51

When I'm in charge it will be literally illegal until the start of Advent.

Yes, last year's stock to shift, and tricking people such as dm to buy it twice (falls for it every year without fail). 🤔

smoulderingmould · 28/08/2025 20:52

@ThisCanFuckOffToo I love cashmere but don't get the opportunity to wear it for that long.

Rasell · 28/08/2025 20:53

Christmas is a special, seasonal event. If you start saving/buying gifts 4 pay days beforehand it's your choice, but it is so diluted and the magic is destroyed by having Christmas stuff out in the summer! By the time we get anywhere close to Christmas the novelty has completely worn off. I think its a real shame and even though we start thinking and preparing, shops shouldn't advertise actual Christmas stuff until closer to the time. I think 1st November but at least wait until autumn!

DappledThings · 28/08/2025 20:56

Needmorelego · 28/08/2025 19:47

And it does sell 😂
Christmas products sell over and over and constantly have to be refilled.
People buy them. That's why they're there.

People buy them because they get sucked into this ridiculous idea that everything needs to be done weeks in advance of when it actually happens because they worry it will run out. It's not on the shelves because people.are clamouring for it, it's utterly cynical marketing and I fucking hate it.

We are still on holiday. Going home tomorrow and over the weekend I intend to buy a few bits needed for school starting. The school stuff deals will be over because they were on in July before schools broke up. Does anyone actually believe that's done for supermarkets to be helpful and help people budget? No, it's to push people to buy new uniform jist before the long holiday so they end up growing out of it sooner too and everyone buys more and more. Fuck that shit.

Modestandatinybitsexy · 28/08/2025 19:24

I love love love Christmas. But it has to be after Halloween at least for festivities. YANBU

I don't want to see anything Christmasy before Halloween. It's just wrong!

IcedPurple · 28/08/2025 21:13

I heard that they start putting it out so early is because they can't discount products unless they've been on display at full price for a certain period of time. Not sure if that's true however.

Bulldog01 · 28/08/2025 21:14

I think that it's too early for Christmas food shopping. Its only 4 months away. With the cost of living situation, I can see why shops are getting Christmas Trees & decorations out.I spend around £1,000 at Christmas! £300.00 on Food & Drinks,£ £150 for teenage Grandchildren,£550 on presents & decorations,Cards.I need four months of budgeting at £250 a month. To afford to spend that much on Christmas.I enjoy Christmas, not the commercial side. But making a effort with gifts, Decor, treats, baking, getting a break from the all the things that can make life tough thoughout the year.My Daughter is not a fan,she leaves everything to the week before Christmas. She is employed.I have to budget,as we are retired. It is much earlier this year? With the increase of bills & food, the shops know, people will need more time to afford Christmas? I have been browsing Dunelm,Argos,Habitat,Next, John Lewis, Etsy & Ebay.Today I purchased a Small Christmas tree from Dunelm today! Husband not interested in Christmas, apart from Food & Drink! I am a Christmas fan, I have a large cupboard that stores my Christmas decorations in.I usually put the tree up quite late around mid December.
