To ask if you'll be attending the anti fascism protest on 13 September

Whatafustercluck · 26/08/2025 18:44

I'd like to go in solidarity with like minded people, but worry about it turning violent. I won't be taking my children and will likely be going alone. Lots of people I know detest Tommy Robinson but will stay away due to the likelihood of trouble, but I really want to help send a message that racism and hatred won't win. Is anyone here considering going, or decided to stay away?

@zaazaazoomare you referring to specific ideas and can you provide details? I think he raises a great many valid points and talks about extremely relevant topics. I tend to find most people who dismiss him haven’t actually read or listened to his work, or take snippets without context.

hotelinfo · 27/08/2025 06:41

What a delightful motley crew this protest will be. A load of "We're not racist but ..." pensioners and village-idiot-do-gooders; mingling with gobshite chavs;; mingled with the EDL and Nazi thugs.

The shame of Britain descending on Lindin. Can't wait.

I agree that people regularly do this.

But, sadly, I do think he started out as an interesting figure but is now a caricature of himself (i think it's when he started wearing fancy suits)

pilates · 27/08/2025 06:46

No I never see the point of them. It never changes anything but stirs up trouble and encourages violence.

It’s so the do gooders can post videos on their social media pages

I didnt know this was happening so thank you for bringing it to my attention

I (Irish lebanese, but British citizen) will be going with my husband (welsh/saffa) who will absolutely protect me and anyone else being targeted violently by gammons

Funny how someone that is supposed to be tolerant thinks that its OK to use a racist term.

Not quite, you haven't done a big old "gotcha" like you think.

It's not generally deemed offensive im afraid and its how he and his family and friends refer to themselves.

Thanks anyway though

pilates · 27/08/2025 07:15

Gammons wow what a hypocrite!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/08/2025 07:21

Tommy Robinson is best ignored and if anyone does have to pay attention to him, ridicule is best.

It seems pretty obvious that the far right and far left depend on each other: they both need an enemy to turn up and throw bottles at.

No doubt Robinson knuckleheads will shout about ‘furriners’. And there’ll be plenty of pro-Palestine placards and flags on the other side.

I feel sorry for the police: not one but two groups of racists to keep apart and take blows from.

Sausagenbacon · 27/08/2025 07:28

It's not generally deemed offensive
I think it is offensive. But it's also a useful signifier i.e. one knows that the person using it is of no account.

Curious, isn’t it? You dismiss others as ‘of no account,’ yet your own post manages to be both smug and irrelevant. If speech marks someone out as worthless, you’ve demonstrated the rule perfectly

It is generally deemed offensive and it is usually used as an offensive term online.

Serpentstooth · 27/08/2025 07:35

My grandfather, a tailor, had his arm broken by a police truncheon at Cable Street, the uncles were variously battered and bruised. I find it hard to credit yet here we are again, exactly the same. There will be violence,, it's an essential part of the right wing agenda so they can claim its everyone else's fault and we need a strong grifter like Farage in charge of things. The media coverage he got yesterday was disgraceful, PM already? I once would have scoffed at the idea but look at USA. Very depressing. September 13 is a Fascist Awayday. It won't be pretty OP. I recommend you stay out of it.

I just told him that and asked him to stop referring to himself as such

Generally the only people that don't deem it offensive are the racists that use it.

Is your husband, his family and friends trying to reclaim the word?

Moseley ended up spending time in prison though and he didn't win.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/08/2025 20:18

Amazing of you to go, things are getting so bad, especially with these flags everywhere

The bbc are reporting on farage's 'sending illegal migrants home' plan as though its a possibility he will be in power!!! Terrifying x

How arrogant you must be to think the Union flag equals 'bad'.

Freysimo · 27/08/2025 08:01

DreamyBalonz · 26/08/2025 21:42

Apparently people who don't want limitless illegal immigrants pouring into the country are fascists. My husband is going on the protest but to protest against illegal immigration. And it's a peaceful protest so not thugs or violence

I agree. I wonder who are the backers of Stand Up to Racism? It seems well organised with printed plackards and posters, unlike the "fascist" side with homexmade stuff.

Sorry but I have to say you lot know less than nothing. You come on here spouting your clap trap and don't even know what the march is for or when it is etc. It boils my blood. We are marching against the racist thugs and Tommy and Reform..do you know you don't even sound like 3rd rate politicians. You hear a tiny thing and jump on a shitty band waggon trying to sound all knowing etc and failing miserably, Do you know when and how long the planning has been for the Free Speech Festival ? Do you hell. Let me tell you long before the Antifa idiots thought of it. You jump on the hastily planned against march.. So we all laugh at you marching technically AGAINST free speech..great move! Our Festival is family friendly always .you lot can't go you say cos you can#t take the kids on your peaceful march..again great move! Our festival is open to anyone of any race and colour, they always have been .so who are you fighting for? Cannot be rascism can it? Again blinded by this simple fact, You have no idea all in all what you are talking about. You hear that name ..one name out of hundreds of organizers from charities, from media, from victims of abuse, one name and you all scream to condemn, You go on your march off you pop be proud. And I will march with the very people who are doing it to protect one thing ..YOUR Free speech. The ignorance is outstanding based on one name,,,I would research a little before trying to sound superior . Clueless totally clueless. And we are the gammons..fuck me looks like this fight for free speech should be starting on here never mind the streets of London and many other major cities round the country. The very free speech you lot of geniuses are marching against give me strength. You might want to digest this little bit before you all kick off with me too...You know that long prison sentence Tommy has just done do you know why? Oh yes contempt of court cos he is a racist evil man, a bad man you say..Yes contempt of court because he made a series of films one in particular featuring a young girl who was groomed ,and abused so badly and he released it to show you lot what the reality is for these girls in our country,He didnt shake his head and tut, He and the other contributors, social workers, teachers ,community leaders even made this not for racism reasons for trying to help young rape victims. And he woudn't bury it so pat and keith wouldn't get offended, He sacrificed his own chidren and family to support and draw attention to this horrific issue and he went to jail gladly in order to do it. Still never mind eh not your problem. You really need to see beyond the BBC.

Edited

A Family Friendly Free Fascist Festival for Free Speech? 😅😅😅 stay away people, don't take your children. You've all seen Yaxley Lennon knock a man to the floor and kick him in the head, cringing cowsrd that he is, and that was when he was just going about his everyday life. If he's the kind of violent criminal you admire and want to emulate then that's your misfortune.

After listening to The rest is politics podcast the other day, Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell were discussing the lack of the centre ground in politics and suggested the Lib Dems could fill this space if they you just get there act together and campaign more directly and seriously with the media. There is definitely a good opportunity for a better third option here.
I won't be marching though, too much of risk of getting embroiled with angry mobs.

The Lib Dems with Ed Davey as leader? That's hilarious. He thinks trans women are women, and that's just for starters.

The Socialist Workers Party are behind it. You can always tell from the placards.

My sister is a long standing member and does some organisational stuff for the NW meet-ups. She's ex SW management, from who I know there are ex police, religious leaders (in the background, but one or two URC clergy go), Union officials, adult ed tutors, medical staff.
I don't agree with all her views. I think both sides have got to stop branding each other as xyz and start to listen and address certain points. Farage is dangerous, his latest plans are going to fund and give the Taliban fighting fit recruits, it makes a mockery of every soldiers death in Afghanistan and it needs people who will listen to each other, to stop him.

Freysimo · 27/08/2025 08:29

Apologies for misspelled placards!
