Cat jumped on baby! GP?

In the middle of a nappy change about half an hour ago and 6kg hulk of a cat bounded through, jumping over but also part on my 8-week-old baby. Baby had a few scratch marks (no broken skin, and they've pretty much faded) and cried for about 30 seconds then fell asleep again, has been a little grumpy since but nothing unusual.

Do I need to take baby to the GP? My husband thinks I'm being an anxious PFB mother and I quite possibly am, but we thought you wise people might know best!

Absolutely not.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 26/08/2025 11:09

No.

NaranjaDreams · 26/08/2025 11:10

No, you don’t.

Ablondiebutagoody · 26/08/2025 11:10

Why the GP?

urghhh47 · 26/08/2025 11:11

No!

MagicMule · 26/08/2025 11:12

Thanks all - glad to see I'm just being neurotic! (I think I was worried about internal injuries...) Cat also thanks you for getting him out of the dog house 😅

No op baby should be fine especially if they've no marks/ broken skin and are presenting normally.

What I would say is if you're struggling with PPA (I did too) its worth speaking to your gp/health visitor about. It's completely normal but that doesn't mean you need to live with it.

tulippa · 26/08/2025 11:13

What would you be expecting the GP to do? Maybe move your changing area to somewhere the cat can't get to. Once your baby gets a bit more mobile, it'll be chaos if the cat keeps interfering.

BrentfordForever · 26/08/2025 11:13

I personally would , if anything to put it down as the cat did it - just in case a weirdo HV thinks you did it

Locutus2000 · 26/08/2025 11:16

First baby OP?

First baby OP?

How could you possibly tell?😂

Of course not, but make sure the cat isn’t in the room when you change the baby or put them down for a nap.

Mammamia162627 · 26/08/2025 11:21

I’m always super careful with newborns. But someone pointed out to me the amount of squishing and stretching they go through to travel through the birth canal and they are designed to put up with a lot. And that made me a lot more relaxed about little bumps and knocks.

CopperWhite · 26/08/2025 11:21

I’d be rehoming the cat tbh. A pet scratching and jumping on a baby is not ok.

coravantexel · 26/08/2025 11:27

YANBU to worry but yes I agree your baby will be fine.

YABVVVVR to post a photo of your cute cat! Gorgeous!

I'm assuming this is sarcasm?

CinnamonBuns67 · 26/08/2025 11:31

I shall think baby will be fine OP accidents happen (clearly wasn't cats intention to harm baby or skin would be broken)

I think lots of MN posters would take him after that photo if the OP listens to your nonsense. What a gorgeous boy!

RedNine · 26/08/2025 11:36

OP, I was a nightmare with my PFB.

I would like to thank you for paying the Cat Tax with that photo of your glorious kitty. [heart eyes]

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 26/08/2025 11:36

No - unbroken skin, no need at all other than a wash. I'd move the changing table/location though if your cat [gorgeous] is 6kg! Were you changing the baby on the floor? If the cat thinks its perfectly acceptable to jump up onto a kitchen table I'd be starting to retrain the cat [I know that's an ask]

Grammarnut · 26/08/2025 11:41

No. No reason to.

Your baby will be fine OP and OMG that cat 🤩🤩🤩 what a beauty! I would 100% keep them separate when baby is so small though x

Don't be silly, cat (who is absolutely gorgeous) probably didn't even realise there was a baby there
