Cat jumped on baby! GP?

In the middle of a nappy change about half an hour ago and 6kg hulk of a cat bounded through, jumping over but also part on my 8-week-old baby. Baby had a few scratch marks (no broken skin, and they've pretty much faded) and cried for about 30 seconds then fell asleep again, has been a little grumpy since but nothing unusual.

Do I need to take baby to the GP? My husband thinks I'm being an anxious PFB mother and I quite possibly am, but we thought you wise people might know best!

You’re going to really have to learn to relax and enjoy your baby. Babies and children are really quite robust. Don’t spoil this precious time by over worrying. Get some help if you’re really feeling overwhelmed.

Internal injuries? It’s a cat, not an elephant. And a very cute cat too!

You’re overthinking it - purrfectly understandable for a first baby though!

Isobel201 · 26/08/2025 11:48

I've grown up around cats and survived a few scratches, I'm sure baby will be fine.

FurForksSake · 26/08/2025 11:49

Definitely rehome the cat. I can collect? 😆

loulouljh · 26/08/2025 11:50

No! Really no

orangegato · 26/08/2025 11:53

Yes please rehome your cat. Into my home 😀

Ketzele · 26/08/2025 11:55

That cat is spectacular [misses point of thread].

TheMousePipes · 26/08/2025 11:57

What a glorious cat!

Campingisnexttogodliness · 26/08/2025 12:01

My ds 10 has the most amazing relationship with our 2 dcats. Imo it's magical watching the bond grow.. Thought dcat wasn't in the room for long when ds was small. Waaay too loud for dcat!! Absolutely no rehoming necessary..

Shessweetbutapsycho · 26/08/2025 12:01

not to worry you (!) but it is possible to contract cat scratch fever, but if the skin wasn’t broken the baby should be fine

AnSolas · 26/08/2025 12:04

At most I would rub some antiseptic cream on where the cat landed as if its an outside cat it will use its claws for balancing and grabbing and may have extra germs than an inside cats claws
And sometimes a sharp claw will not even leave a mark.
And keep the cat out of the babys sleep area a they can spot a good nap area better than any dog.

But other than that enjoy the new baby

AugustSlippedAwayIntoAMomentInTime · 26/08/2025 12:05

Your cat 😍

Baby will be fine; hopefully they'll be besties soon.

PurpleChrayn · 26/08/2025 12:07

Please don’t waste a GP’s time with this!

WFHforevermore · 26/08/2025 12:10

Seriously? What for?

I'm just picturing a HULK cat bounding!! 😂

concerneddsm · 26/08/2025 12:11

Excellent thread!

Thanks all - glad to see I'm just being neurotic! (I think I was worried about internal injuries...) Cat also thanks you for getting him out of the dog house 😅

Edited

This animal is clearly dangerous, I would be happy to take it off your hands just to keep your baby safe, nothing to do with the fact that it's only the most beautiful cat in the universe!!! 😍😍😍

Baby will be fine OP, absolutely no need for GP. The cat was probably oblivious that there was a baby there and was looking for a place to snooze 😂 they'll soon be besties

Vitriolinsanity · 26/08/2025 12:13

My cats loved having baby DS, loads of soft blankets, Moses baskets and later marmite on toast and remains of milk.

I personally would , if anything to put it down as the cat did it - just in case a weirdo HV thinks you did it

I really think this is very unlikely unless an HV already had concerns about OP which, again, is really very unlikely!

Huntrix · 26/08/2025 12:14

Gorgeous cat. Obviously not guilty of anything apart from being criminally handsome.

I’d be rehoming the cat tbh. A pet scratching and jumping on a baby is not ok.

That is one of the most beautiful cats I have ever seen (I am not really a cat person).

Race you!

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 26/08/2025 12:19

I’m a dog person but your cat is GORGEOUS

Iheartmysmart · 26/08/2025 12:19

What a beautiful cat. I’ll happily take it off your hands!

We had two cats when DS was a baby and they both absolutely adored him. They’d sit on the sofa for ages just watching him in his Moses basket. MIL was horrified and was convinced they’d smother him at the first opportunity.

When DS got older, they’d frequently be in his bedroom with him playing with his train set and scalextric cars, DS shrieking with laughter as trains and cars went everywhere.
