Cat jumped on baby! GP?

MagicMule · 26/08/2025 11:06

In the middle of a nappy change about half an hour ago and 6kg hulk of a cat bounded through, jumping over but also part on my 8-week-old baby. Baby had a few scratch marks (no broken skin, and they've pretty much faded) and cried for about 30 seconds then fell asleep again, has been a little grumpy since but nothing unusual.

Do I need to take baby to the GP? My husband thinks I'm being an anxious PFB mother and I quite possibly am, but we thought you wise people might know best!

I’d be rehoming the cat tbh. A pet scratching and jumping on a baby is not ok.

Oh dear….. 😆

MarioLink · 26/08/2025 12:21

No need for a doctor but give those scratches a good wash. I once found a strange cat asleep on DD1's changing mat.

Thanks all - glad to see I'm just being neurotic! (I think I was worried about internal injuries...) Cat also thanks you for getting him out of the dog house 😅

Edited

Now be honest, OP, was this all a ruse to share a picture of your cat? If yes, I approve, he is adorbz.

That cat is spectacular [misses point of thread].

So spectacular I was wondering whether that’s a real cat or an AI cat

starshollowhistoricalsociety · 26/08/2025 12:27

That cat is fucking glorious.

CurlewKate · 26/08/2025 12:19

Race you!

@CurlewKateshared custody? 😆

RoseDog · 26/08/2025 12:29

That cat is innocent of all crimes, look at his wee face and them eyes!

PinchOfVom · 26/08/2025 12:29

Rehome the baby!
That cat is divine! 😍

BertieBotts · 26/08/2025 12:32

Remember, a lot of newborn babies live with hulking 3yo siblings, and they get through it absolutely fine. A cat isn't that heavy to cause internal injuries.

Obviously don't leave the cat unattended with the baby, but I expect the cat disliked the interaction just as much as the baby did and probably isn't keen to repeat it!

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2025 12:38

Gorgeous cat!

The baby will be fine.

Lemonyyy · 26/08/2025 12:39

Nothing to add to the original question but omg what a stunning cat!

If she leaves the cat unattended there is going to be a queue of cat burglars ready to spirit it away! 😀

I remember the look of resignation on one of the health visitors faces when she walked in (she was staunch anti cat) and found me feeding dd who was using the cat as a pillow everytime we moved the cat he dived back in and wedged himself under her head the trainee was laughing and asked if the cat minded them examining "his" baby

Becca9 · 26/08/2025 12:41

Don't worry your baby will be fine! 💜 and what a gorgeous cat!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/08/2025 12:46

Just to concur with the general thread.
No need for a GP visit, your cat is gorgeous, and please ignore anyone telling you to rehome it.

But going forward I would definitely shut the door with the cat on the other side when nappy changing 🤣

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 26/08/2025 12:46

No need for the GP. I’d come up with a plan to keep the cat away from the baby in future though.

AmoozzBoosh · 26/08/2025 12:47

Op I'm saying farewell to my cat shortly and have been searching for distraction - this is such a lovely post and made me smile - and your cat really is a beaut!

Millytante · 26/08/2025 12:49

That cat is unreal! Wow, oh wow 😻😻
There’s yer actual science behind the claim that gorgeous cats are the very best companions for bébés. (Weird how cats really do adore human babies. I wonder do they think they are helpless, hairless cats, clearly in need of care and assistance?)
Just you wait, a month from now you’ll be leaving the infant slumbering in the paws of the cat, who’ll make sure no harm gets near, with a damn good tongue bath thrown in gratis.
How wonderful for you all; you’ll have such fabulous memories of these two together 🐾😽

HowAmYa · 26/08/2025 12:49

Rehome the cat immediately. I’ll take him, I can drive from the midlands to anywhere after 4pm😂

also hope baby is ok, I don’t think its a big issue, baby will be fine and old enough to swat back soon enough 😂

Haha, spot on 😹🐾

MagicMule · 26/08/2025 12:50

Thank you everyone - changing mat will be moving from the floor to a now ordered changing table, HulkCat will be accepting treats and compliments sent to a PO Box in his cat tree 😅

Calm. Down.

VikingLady · 26/08/2025 12:53

I looked into this when I had my pfb in 2012. There are government stats on causes of death. There are zero recorded cat caused deaths in the UK. There was a suspected one in 2000 but it was actually identified at autopsy as SIDS, but one of the tabloids whipped up a frenzy about the possibility just before that.

It’s possible it was put down to cats in the past when people saw them as devilish. Early versions of the cautionary tales say they steal the babies breath instead, nothing about lying on them.

GCAcademic · 26/08/2025 13:02

You need to rehome that cat asap.

I will take him off your hands.

voxnihili · 26/08/2025 13:11

@MagicMule what until baby is a toddler and you find them on all fours at the cat bowl and you’re googling whether cat food is dangerous if consumed by child. Or you catch them letting the cat have a lick of the butter off their crackers. I’m not a honestly not a neglectful parent, just didn’t anticipate the child doing things which are so disgusting 😂
