Cat jumped on baby! GP?

MagicMule · 26/08/2025 11:06

In the middle of a nappy change about half an hour ago and 6kg hulk of a cat bounded through, jumping over but also part on my 8-week-old baby. Baby had a few scratch marks (no broken skin, and they've pretty much faded) and cried for about 30 seconds then fell asleep again, has been a little grumpy since but nothing unusual.

Do I need to take baby to the GP? My husband thinks I'm being an anxious PFB mother and I quite possibly am, but we thought you wise people might know best!

My cat does this all the time while I am sleeping - she'll suddenly decide to somersault onto my head and then bounce off onto the headboard and from there onto the window sill. I think it's probably feline humour... I guess because they can.

LouiseK93 · 27/08/2025 20:08

What's PPA?

I’d be rehoming the cat tbh. A pet scratching and jumping on a baby is not ok.

Oh FFS stop being so dramatic. Maybe she should wrap the baby in cotton wool and put it inside a hermetically sealed room as well. Just incase...

I personally would , if anything to put it down as the cat did it - just in case a weirdo HV thinks you did it

Jesus wept.....

Correct ...and shut the door to keep the cat out during changes......

Thanks all - glad to see I'm just being neurotic! (I think I was worried about internal injuries...) Cat also thanks you for getting him out of the dog house 😅

Edited

Beautiful cat! I hope you are now feeling reassured❤️

“Short attention span” 😂😂😂 adhd perhaps ? 😆

Tolkien gorgeous too!! Looks exactly the same as neighbour’s cat! Comes daily and demands a specific brand cat food, hisses at me if he gets something different 🙄

Wouldn’t it be a gas to propose as a PhD thesis the study of a cat’s attention span, with special emphasis on the cause of zoomies (can it really be mere possession, or is a vitamin deficiency to blame?) and on staring fixedly, at a spot on the wall as though turned to stone. (Except for the intermittent flicking of the tip of her tail)
As any fule kno, a cat’s attention span is always perfectly attuned to the moment 😸

Is that intended as "ironic"?

If not, I think you have a problem.

He's pretty affectionate and friendly but has a short attention span. Tolkien is the cuddle monster.

I'm just posting so I can be first in line for a cuddle from this vicious monster 😍

Cat is very much real, I promise! He's a Siberian who enjoys cuddles, treats, and a growing waistline. Bonus picture of cat on his kitty chaise longue, wondering if he's about to be put on a diet.

100% bloody gorgeous cat 🐈 😻

And take an appointment away from someone who could actually need it? Your baby isn’t sick?!

Don't be completely ridiculous and downright cruel!

Take the cat to the cats home. Once they do that, because they like the smell of the baby, it will happen again and again.

Could be jealousy? same treatment.

Read the OP. The cat jumped over and partly on the baby, not because he liked the smell of the baby. You're being ridiculous.

Are you quite well?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/08/2025 10:52

@llizzie Respectfully I think you may be confusing the domestic cat (Felis catus) with a tiger (Panthera tigris).

T1Dmama · 28/08/2025 11:43

Changing tables are a waste of time as once baby starts to wriggle the risk of falling off it is far more dangerous than the cat.
just change baby so that they’re not between an open door and the couch… or close the door for the few minutes while you change babies bottom.
Are in in U.K.? I only ask because I think all is well unless you live in a country where rabies is present…. Although I’m suspecting your cat is possibly indoor only or inoculated anyway.

FurForksSake · 28/08/2025 11:45

Rabid, fat, adhd cat. The poor thing and you want to make it an orphan? Next it’ll have FIV and an alcohol dependency, do cats like savvy b?

HRTQueen · 28/08/2025 11:57

Yes I was thinking that op don't waste your money on a changing table, your baby will soon want to roll off it (this shall cause more worrying) and it will become the new place that cat shall like to have a snooze on (more cleaning up cat fur)

if you have ordered cancel the order really a mat or towel on the floor is fine
