Cat jumped on baby! GP?

MagicMule · 26/08/2025 11:06

In the middle of a nappy change about half an hour ago and 6kg hulk of a cat bounded through, jumping over but also part on my 8-week-old baby. Baby had a few scratch marks (no broken skin, and they've pretty much faded) and cried for about 30 seconds then fell asleep again, has been a little grumpy since but nothing unusual.

Do I need to take baby to the GP? My husband thinks I'm being an anxious PFB mother and I quite possibly am, but we thought you wise people might know best!

Rehome the baby!
That cat is divine! 😍

😂😂

JifNtGif · 26/08/2025 13:12

I would be calling social services tbh. Cats should not be given the chance to jump on and scratch young babies.

StarDolphins · 26/08/2025 13:15

Definitely don’t need GP🙂

I’d be rehoming the cat tbh. A pet scratching and jumping on a baby is not ok.

This is a bit neurotic. Did you read the op? That’s a very extreme solution based on the actual event. Please don’t ever get a cat.

Squirrelintree · 26/08/2025 13:17

Always best to ask and this is a good place to ask, so don't worry. If cat had bitten baby or if baby's skin broken, you would need to call GP but unbroken skin is totally fine. Your cat is adorable!

Calm. Down.

Absolutely.
My god, my little brother had a boggling period of biting or thumping everyone, especially moi, when he was about two. (He grew into the most peaceable chap you could meet, natch)
I’d have eagerly swapped him for a stately cat though, when he was a toddler.

What are SS going to do? Arrange supervised visits only at a kitty contact centre?🙄

I hope you were being sarcastic.

Old babies are fair game though 😹

Seriously, social services?
>klaxon< Time for the little pink pills, I think.

Oh to have had a baby that cried for 30 seconds then fell asleep again. Misses the point of the thread.

Would that stuff like this was all social services had to deal with!

Why would you waste their time like that? There’s young babies in households where there’s domestic abuse, drugs, neglect, etc - it blows my mind you’d divert them from helping children in need to look into a minor accident that the OP’s already taken steps to prevent in the future.

Beautiful cat though OP, we’re TTC and have two handsome long haired boys. Judging by their reaction to our nephews, they’ll give any baby in the house a v wide berth!!

GreenFrogYellow · 26/08/2025 13:31

This reminds me of the pfb thread of old, thanks OP!

Cat was there first. Rehome the baby.

RentalWoesNotFun · 26/08/2025 13:33

Im guessing quite a lot of people haven’t been jumped on by a mahoosive (and incredibly gorgeous) cat.

Their legs are like stiletto shoes, all weight on a tiny bit at the very bottom makes it feel like a punch lol.

It could be sore but the fact the baby went to sleep sounds like it wasn’t that painful!!

Amonthinthecountry · 26/08/2025 13:35

GCAcademic · 26/08/2025 13:02

You need to rehome that cat asap.

I will take him off your hands.

Oh dammit! You got here first!!

whirlyhead · 26/08/2025 13:35

I’d rehome the baby. The cat is absolutely adorable!!

heartsinvisiblefury · 26/08/2025 13:35

I’ll happily rehome the cat - what a beauty!!

ImFineItsAllFine · 26/08/2025 13:35

That's a very gorgeous cat, OP!

misses point of thread

Agree. The cat can go to mediation with the baby to solve their differences amicably. Nappies and Dreamies to be supplied by the OP.

Hopefully the mediation works, but if not, it’ll be pawssible to try other things. I have a feline that’ll work it out in the end.

*Missing point of thread.....
What breed is this glorious creature? Asking for a friend 😁.

HRTQueen · 26/08/2025 13:35

as others have said no

your cat looks genuinely sorry 😊

oopsied · 26/08/2025 13:36

I think it's the cat that needs to visit the GP (vet)! 6Kg is rather large for a domestic cat and the photo, albeit extremely cute, appears to suggest it's a bit of overweight.

A bit rude I know but hopefully the cat doesn't read MN. *Prepares for inbound flaming.

MagicMule · 26/08/2025 11:12

Thanks all - glad to see I'm just being neurotic! (I think I was worried about internal injuries...) Cat also thanks you for getting him out of the dog house 😅

Edited

No your not , my niece has a 3 week baby and would worry just as much , you are a great mum well done for being worried William a great niece as well

I think if cats were to choose a site to visit, it would definitely be MN. Perfect place to sharpen their (virtual) claws.

The cat’s going to read what you wrote, but you might get away with it because the ones calling for rehoming and calling social work are dying first.

Seriously? I feel for any pets you have if that how easily you’d get rid of them.
