AIBU to ask about this whole ‘painting flags on roundabouts’ thing?

Ticktockk · 24/08/2025 21:05

England flags have appeared all over my nice town, painted on to the mini roundabouts. What kind of a ‘thing’ is this? Is it a Reform thing, a football thing or a ‘proud to be English’ thing?
If it’s a reform thing, WIBU to go down and add “England welcomes you to our country” to all the red crosses?

Yes because decades of bigotry and genocide is nothing compared to the plight of the white British man

Can’t help yourself can you?

No I haven’t. I still think painting crosses on mini roundabouts and hanging up flags is harmless though. I am really enjoying all this exposing the hypocrisy of the type of people who shove Palestine and rainbow flags in our faces at every opportunity.

It won’t be harmless when motorbikes slip on the paint as it’s not the special paint they use for roads which grips.

You think LGBTQ people and Palestinians in Gaza are in the same bracket as white people in the UK?

I’ve been here 13 years and that life experience tells me that this place is a Labour echo chamber. Always was. Still is.

This place where the education boards are dominated by private school threads?

Is this meant to be a comeback?? Jesus the bar is low these days.

Have a little peruse up the thread. My favourite one from this one poster
“no you are” about who was the bigot.

I’ve reported the post so Mumsnet can decide if it’s racially pejorative or not. I fucking hate the term so personally I’m highly offended by it.

Out of interest, so you also object to the term "nonce" on the grounds that it degrades paedophiles?

Gammon is a term of abuse for racists - and personally I am fine with them being abused. Do you have a problem with it?

If she had used it to describe all working class white males, that would obviously be offensive. But she clearly didn't. She used it to describe racists who support the spray painting of what is (admittedly unfortunately) a widely accepted racist emblem and rallying point on our public roads in order to disseminate hate and intimidated vulnerable people.

Such acts are fully deserving of abuse.

SnailPail · 26/08/2025 09:01

It’s “taking their country back” because if you remember, back in the good old days that never existed, all mini roundabouts had a St George’s Cross. However, the St George’s Cross was removed by people infected with the woke mind virus because it offended “illegals”. These proud patriots are putting them back, as well as helping the economy by increasing sales of red paint.

DiscontentedPig · 26/08/2025 09:11

It's a political elephant trap. A not terribly sophisticated elephant trap, with a sign next to it saying "this is an elephant trap". A worryingly large number of people are walking into it.

Union Jacks and St George’s crosses are going up on lampposts across the UK. The Daily Mail called those behind it an “army of patriots.” But the truth is very different.

While there is nothing wrong with flying the nation’s flags, HOPE not hate can reveal that the key organisers behind much of this activism are hardened and extreme far-right activists.

Organised under the banner of “Operation Raise the Colours”, the co-founder of the group is Andrew Currien (AKA Andy Saxon).

Currien is a longtime Tommy Robinson ally and former English Defence League bodyguard. He was jailed for his role in a racist death in 2009.

Currien now works security for Britain First and boasts of supplying 1,000 flags in the last 24 hours to groups in: Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, Worcester, Dudley, Stourbridge
and Staffordshire.

In Nottingham, the group is led by Robinson’s associate, Guramit Singh. He served prison time after he and two accomplices tied up a shop assistant and threatened to slash his throat in an attempted robbery. He now fronts the Predator Hunter series for Robinson’s Urban Scoop.

Britain First itself claims to have provided 75% of the flag stock for teams in Manchester and the West Midlands. Its leader, Paul Golding, bragged: “Most of the flags in this photo are now on lampposts and bridges in Manchester and Birmingham!”

Football hooligan groups are also being encouraged to join in. Numerous “firms” are known to have raised flags in their local areas.

To be clear: there is nothing wrong with flying the Union Jack or St George’s cross. It’s not illegal to be proud to be English or British.

But when convicted criminals, Britain First and Tommy Robinson’s allies are the organisers, we should all be asking questions about what this wave of activism is really about.

Oh my, the Daily Mail. They must have been rifling through their archives and digging through the old copy from the 1930s when they used to refer to Oswald Mosley and his private army of fascist blackshirts as an army of patriots. Yes, that Mosley, that Hitler supporting traitor from the lead up to WW2. If he hadn't been so well connected soocially, he'd have ended his days swinging from a rope.

This is what happens when for years community concerns about the high levels of immigration have been ridiculed and ignored.

Not sure how you expect a native population to react to decades of disregard

Thank you. Totally nailed it

askmenow · 26/08/2025 11:40

IMO Brits are sick to death of being gaslit by our leftist Government and left wing ideology permeating the country. They denigrate our country, its values and historic contributions to the world, without ever lauding the good.

And I say this as a person whose mother was an immigrant, who endeavoured to give back to this country, who was proud to become British.

We see throughout our country the two tier policing, the raising of foreign flags, Ukraine, Palestinian without objection or removal by the councils. Yet when we raise our own the St George or the Union flag, the State rains down its venom upon us, tearing down any overt signs of National pride and .....suddenly the raising of flags becomes "dangerous" but only when its our own!

Fuck the councils, the government and woke left wing ideology denigrating our values, history and country.
So the painting of roundabouts is activism against the overbearing State.

WTAF are you talking about?

Serpentstooth · 26/08/2025 11:57

Correction to pp above. This is what happens when people are ignorant of their own history, bored and looking for trouble. That's why they're celebrating criminals as prospective poliicians. Who wouldn't want to live in a country run by the violent thugs 'raising the colours' like cartel gang members? It's not about flags. It's about what thst flag signifies. That's what flags are for, rallying the faithful without words. I have some words for its adherents.

Yes it’s sarcasm. It’s no more dangerous than turning a roundabout or zebra crossing into a rainbow, decolonisation of a street name or implementing a low traffic neighbourhood overnight. Irritating identity gesture politics is now diverse and inclusive, it’s no longer just for lefties. Get used to it and ignore it like the rest of us do.

Serpentstooth · 26/08/2025 12:06

You'd better try harder with the ignoring. You sound worryingly obsessed.

Talking about immaturity whilst behaving like a bitchy school girl. Nice.
