AIBU to ask about this whole ‘painting flags on roundabouts’ thing?

England flags have appeared all over my nice town, painted on to the mini roundabouts. What kind of a ‘thing’ is this? Is it a Reform thing, a football thing or a ‘proud to be English’ thing?
If it’s a reform thing, WIBU to go down and add “England welcomes you to our country” to all the red crosses?

Talking about immaturity whilst behaving like a bitchy school girl. Nice.

It won’t be harmless when motorbikes slip on the paint as it’s not the special paint they use for roads which grips.

You are meant to go round the mini roundabouts though rather than over the top of them.

ThatWaryOchreQuoter · 26/08/2025 11:58

Yes it’s sarcasm. It’s no more dangerous than turning a roundabout or zebra crossing into a rainbow, decolonisation of a street name or implementing a low traffic neighbourhood overnight. Irritating identity gesture politics is now diverse and inclusive, it’s no longer just for lefties. Get used to it and ignore it like the rest of us do.

Edited

it is different when it’s not done through the right channels. When highways are involved they make sure the correct paint is used, the correct procedures are followed so people aren’t in danger.
if you’ve ever had any dealings with highways you’ll know how particular they are about things like this, and with good reason when they can be blamed for costly accidents and deaths

The painted flat ones are meant for partial driving over

Out of interest, so you also object to the term "nonce" on the grounds that it degrades paedophiles?

Gammon is a term of abuse for racists - and personally I am fine with them being abused. Do you have a problem with it?

If she had used it to describe all working class white males, that would obviously be offensive. But she clearly didn't. She used it to describe racists who support the spray painting of what is (admittedly unfortunately) a widely accepted racist emblem and rallying point on our public roads in order to disseminate hate and intimidated vulnerable people.

Such acts are fully deserving of abuse.

The St. George's Flag is not a racist emblem. You are part of the problem.

No they are not. Some people do drive over them but you are not supposed to.

FatherFrosty · 26/08/2025 12:41

I saw highways taking the flags down off motorway bridges this morning

You did. Sniggering like a half wit with another poster instead of addressing me directly, bitchy school girl behaviour.

The painted round abouts are in places where cars and Lorries cannot go around the raised ones. They are for partial driving over if your vehicle cannot make the turn

not driving over
not going the wrong way around
partial driving over

the paint used is a genuine concern for bikers, it’s not only been used on round abouts but give way markings

Do you have the evidence backing up your claims please? Can you show the evidence of the 17 women raped by asylum seekers. Thanks

Delighted we’ve touched a nerve! A less half-witted move on your part would have been not to react.

No I'm glad i kept it going. I said you were behaving like bitchy school girls and you've gone on to prove me right. I hope you carry on embarrassing yourselves

FirstNationsEnglish · 26/08/2025 13:40

@Ilovelurchers ... a widely accepted racist emblem ...

If it is as you say, then those who are 'widely accepting' this assertion, I would suggest could be accused of displaying Xenophobia against England and the English who are proud of (most of) their history and heritage and culture, and flag.

I also want to add that those who assert that the English flag, displayed in England is for 'white' people only, could also be accused of racism because they are ignoring the many people who are proudly English and who are not 'white'.

Maybe this is a push back by folk who feel they have been made to feel ashamed of their homeland and identity? 🤔 Those who shout and scream loudest have been proven not to be the majority - reference Brexit. By objecting to the nation's flag being displayed, the detractors are actually creating more division.

I honestly have no idea what Britain has to be proud of any more. I'm certainly not proud of "are country".

You can't think of one good thing about Britain?
Not one?

Why don't you move?

Why should I move because I'm not proud of the mess this country has become?

I'm not running away from it and I really hope it will improve. But being proud of all the racism, the running down of the NHS, our reputation throughout the world ... not much there to wave a flag for.

I don't know what "are country" is, but that aside - are you English? If you are then you are taking too easily for granted the freedoms you have in this beautiful island: whether you are male or female - freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom to work, freedom to not work, freedom to travel, freedom to wear whatever you want to wear, 'free' education, 'free' healthcare, free contraception, free to follow or not follow any 'religion' of your choice ...

I am sure the girl that got raped by an illegal in a flower bed on canary wharf is with you. Or the 61 year old man pulled in the bushes and raped by an illegal immigrants in Harrow. So much middle class outrage. Live near one of the hotels filled with these peace loving, women respecting men. Then see how you feel, scared to go out scared to leave windows open leered at hassled asked for money and cigarettes. They are ILLEGAL not asylum seekers.

Can you link to those cases please?

Asylum seekers are being processed to decide refugee status. They're not illegal.
