For thinking that the migrant protests ...

Should be held at the council offices, Government departments, rather than the migrant hotels? After all, it's due to the government's lack of processing that the migrants are there?

Oh go away. Of course there are many men in Afghanistan who abhor such practises as much as you do. That's why they leave.

That’s not why they leave. Mostly. I’d be interested to know how many put down on their applications for asylum ‘I don’t like how women are treated in my country of origin…’

She's horribly naive. It'd be sweet if it wasn't dangerous.

Of course they don't "abhor" the practices: because it's normal culturally. Your 'normal' is whatever you grew up and are immersed in from birth.

Obviously not because that wouldn’t be a reason for asylum to be granted.

Inchworms · 24/08/2025 09:50

That’s not what I meant though

You didn’t mean that a society’s laws generally reflect a society’s values? What did you mean?

Livelovebehappy · 24/08/2025 09:56

SquishedMallow · 24/08/2025 09:52

I'm just going to advertise this as I think it's important:

@Inchworms has openly admitted: it's never ok to generalise about foreign asylum seekers

It is ok to generalise about white working class middle aged males

There we have it.

Shocking isn't it .....

It is shocking. But sadly a very common approach for many who champion uncontrolled immigration. It’s okay to generalise about white men protesting, but never to generalise about asylum seekers….

I think this thread pretty much illustrates that societal values don’t really exist. My values are completely different to those of many posters on this thread.

Inchworms · 24/08/2025 09:57

Livelovebehappy · 24/08/2025 09:50

Because young men, from birth, have been raised to think that the way women are perceived and treated there is the norm. It obviously benefits them to follow this, so they pretty much run with it. And when they come here, how they have been raised to perceive women is going to still be with them. It’s the culture they’ve been taught, so it’s going to be nigh on impossible for us to change that without lots of therapy and education.

I’m not Afghani so I wouldn’t know. I get the impression there are plenty of happy afghani marriages and have met several pleasant afghani people of both genders. Therapy didn’t seem to be required, but again, what would I know

Racists are using VAWG in order to justify their racism and detract from their own VAWG. Your more likely to be standing next to an abuser at these protests, than not.

This. “Coming over here, abusing, raping and murdering our women when that’s OUR job.”

Hate the way their women are treated so much, that they’re happy to leave them alone in said country, without a man to protect them, whilst they come here to be in the system for maybe years before they might be granted asylum, when their unprotected female members of the family are allowed to come to safety…..

Surely you agree there is a consensus on women being allowed to have a job, an education, drive a car and show uncovered hair in public that reflects U.K. societal values?

Tbh, doesn’t that make more of an argument for us to refuse entry to more women abusers. The ones we have here, who were born here and have British residency, we can’t do anything about. But we can certainly stop more being ‘imported’, can’t we?

So, new gem from the thread "all people protesting are rapists"

So that's allowed isn't it ? Because they're white ? I'm getting it I think.... We could create a 'two tier' system couldn't we ? Oh ... Wait.....

This thread just keeps on giving

Of course there will be some happy Afghan marriages, but I suspect that’s not the norm. Most people who are brainwashed from birth aren’t going to deviate from their ‘norm’. But like you say, there are no statistics to know how many happy marriages vs how many crap ones, but I suspect we can pretty much guess…..

mustytrusty · 24/08/2025 10:06

I live in a seaside town. We have people who come from all over the place here. The population more than doubles over the summer months.

We have people who come from elsewhere who leave rubbish and dirty nappies on the beach. Nobody protests against them.

We have people who come from elsewhere commit crime - fighting, stealing, shoplifting. Nobody protests against them.

We have people who come from elsewhere in camper vans, park on residential streets and add nothing to the local economy. Nobody protests against them.

We have groups of young men who come from elsewhere and drink and puke in the streets and harass women in the pubs and end up in A&E. Nobody protests against them.

We have people who come from elsewhere and 'wild camp' and cause fires with barbecues in areas of outstanding natural beauty. Nobody protests against them.

We have two hotels. Both a bit run-down. They house people who have come to the UK in what people like to call 'illegally'. It's not illegal it's asylum but hey-ho. They are pretty-much corralled in these hotels. They're not out fighting, puking, littering, using the NHS or setting alight to the countryside. There's crowds of people outside 'protesting' their presence.

My point is that we're looking in the wrong direction. These people are the scapegoats for frustrations that are caused more widely and it's a classic 'othering' situation which, we know from history, has never ever ended well.

While we all buy the Daily Mail for the gossip and laugh at Farage and Boris and 'don't bother with politics' and are too busy watching Love Island to read and question any deeper we are getting deeper and deeper into this 'them and us' thing. It's here on this thread already.

We are sleepwalking into fascism and it's only be educating yourself and listening to others and reflecting on things and finding out the truth about things - not just what we're fed in the papers by people with a reason to have the proles fighting amongst themselves - that any change will happen.

If we're looking for an enemy then we're looking in the wrong direction. We should be looking up the food chain, not down it. It's not asylum seekers who want to take from us. It's the people with the money and power who want to keep their money and power and expand on it. It won't be long until we - or our children and their children - will be the 'illegals' / economic migrants / asylum seekers elsewhere if this division in our society is allowed to continue.

It started with Brexit - being separated from others who were akin to us. The US has it with MAGA. It's all about othering and separating people. Divide and conquer.

the Taliban returning to power in Afghanistan is absolutely nothing like a ‘democratic mandate’ which is why all the arguments about a ‘culture’ based on who the government is are so stupid. I don’t even have the energy tbh, but it’s all on google if you want. There’s a whole history. UK were involved

I am not naive, but think that if it suits your narrative. My husband is Iranian.

Do you know any Iranian men? Or Afghan? Ever had a conversation with any?

It is 'culturally acceptable' for men in the U.K. to watch endless porn. It's 'culturally acceptable' for men in the U.K. to get multiple women pregnant and pay nothing towards their own children. Does this mean all U.K. men know no better?

That’s an extremely narrow definition of values.

It’s an example of UK core societal values that is reflected in our laws, these core values are in direct conflict with other culture’s core values that are reflected in their laws.
