To wonder what’s going on with all the big lips

Everywhere I go I see women with massive lips. It looks like so many women are wearing lip fillers.

i totally get that if you’re someone with really thin lips then you may want to plump them up, but I see this look on lots of women from their 20s to 60s.

I wonder what the next thing will be -we’ve had boobs, eyebrows, lashes, buttocks and now lips - maybe perms will make a comeback

BurntBroccoli · 19/08/2025 10:26

This has been around for years now. I’m seeing less and less of it as celebrities, influencers) have stopped doing it so much.

I regularly see a young woman who has had her lips inflated to comic proportions. They look like two glistening pink sausages. The lip gloss she wears always looks patchy, perhaps due to them being over inflated?

She has a uniform of pastel coloured outfits - pale pink, beige, cream and pastel blue that are matching top and bottom that are either skin tight or cropped sweatshirt and jogging bottoms.

she also has over inflated breasts and an unnaturally large backside which looks strange with her slim legs and waist.

She has long dyed matte black hair and massive fake eyelashes.

She has sported this look for at least three years.

Her husband looks like a normal bloke. I noticed that he has quite thin lips.

They have three daughters and it’s hard to see if there is any resemblance to their mother as she looks like a cartoon caricature but they do have a strong resemblance to their father including the thin lips.

I wonder if the girls will be influenced by her look and when they become teenagers will try to emulate this look.

People do stare at this woman as she’s quite startling to look at so I wonder if the children notice or she thinks she is receiving glances of admiration?

The lips actually make me wince, they look so painful and uncomfortable.

I found this photo online but they are identical to what this woman has except for this woman has patches of red. It must be the look she wants as over the years they look the same.

Edited

Those are very sausage like.

“<insert judgy comment> but each to their own.”

If people want to spend their money on something that makes them feel better, more power to them.

We can have a separate conversation about why women choose to change their looks and how the beauty industry spends £billions on convincing them they should, if you like?

How is anyone or any industry convincing anyone fake lips look good? Apart from influencers people deliberately follow

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/08/2025 10:29

I wouldn't be bothered if it weren't for having to lipread. When somebody's lips, cheeks, eyes and eyebrows/forehead don't move or form shapes in the way a person who has not had any procedures does, they might as well not bother.

I do wonder whether an altered level or lack of expression can also affect child language and speech development - so much is communicated via expression, but it's been deliberately altered out of fear of wrinkles or to look different.

menopause59 · 19/08/2025 10:29

I think they look awful but each to their own, it's definetly not for me.

When i see somene with massive lips I can't stop starring at them, not sure why but my husband has even told me to stop starring but i just can't help it

PInkyStarfish · 19/08/2025 10:30

I forgot to add the woman’s eyebrows which are also massive and unnatural.

So it’s her hair, eyebrows, lips, breasts and bum that are over exaggerated and made to look bigger.

I have to say she seems a perfectly nice woman and seems quite introverted which is at odds with the appearance which looks to be screaming for attention!

My sister says she seems quiet and doesn’t say much probably because it’s painful to talk through those lips!

I want to start up a conversation with her about it but she always has at least one child with her.

YelloDaisy · 19/08/2025 10:30

But people aren’t enhancing Their own looks they are trying to look like or imitate someone they admire

MoonlightMemories · 19/08/2025 10:30

I've often wondered why women do this too, especially when it's quite over done and they look as if they're going to have difficulty eating with them. See also huge fake attached eyelashes that have been stuck on and looks like a bad case of conjunctivitis...how on earth do they see with them on?

Pandasquishy · 19/08/2025 10:31

You're about 5 years late to the party. Around here (SE) everyone is getting them dissolved.

KimberleyClark · 19/08/2025 10:32

I feel the same about those ridiculously long and thick false eyelashes that make the eyes look like slits, how can anyone see while wearing them?

user1471503652 · 19/08/2025 10:34

I have naturally big lips and got horrendously bullied for it at school... "fish lips, blow job lips etc"

It's bizarre that my old secondary school bullies all now have lip filler!

However, I think 0.5 or 1ml can look very flattering and add volume and symmetry. Anymore however I think can look obvious

BarbaraHavers · 19/08/2025 10:34

Always makes me think of Ivy Brennan/Tilsley.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/08/2025 10:37

I saw a lovely young girl in the shop the other day. She'd obviously had her lips done but it looked really quite natural and wasn't egregious or dreadful. Then she turned sideways on and I thought 'yep, THAT is how people can tell'. Her mouth stuck out at such an angle that I wondered how she could manage to drink from a cup.

Each to their own and, like I said, face forwards she looked great. I guess they like the look. Many fashions look ridiculous in retrospect and I'm sure many will cringe at their duck face pictures in years to come, much like we cringe at our legs squeezed into skinny jeans or the flat make up we used to wear.

It was ever thus.

GentleSheep · 19/08/2025 09:21

That's it exactly! It's like everyone wants to be a clone. What happened to being an individual?

When was that?

SwimmingPoolShenigans · 19/08/2025 10:39

I follow a few people on social media who have had work done and at least at first, it has started out quite subtly and looked good, but it seems to escalate and now these very pretty women, who didn’t need to do anything in the first place, have almost become caricatures of themselves. I wonder what some women will look like in 20 years?

I dont follow anyone who has had work done as i have no interest in what they have to say

Jamesblonde2 · 19/08/2025 10:43

It’s nice to be on holiday and see local women looking normal, like we did 20-30 years ago. Yes there’s the odd one with fillers, but my God the number of British young women who have gone down the route of lip fillers (and false teeth) is bamboozling. They don’t look better.

I love watching documentaries and programmes from the 80s/90s where the women looked natural and all different.

Most women with big lips and big bottoms were African heritage, why the push for all of this?

Surely the standard beauty was the 90s supermodel, they were stunning without any ridiculous enhancements.

NOresponsibility · 19/08/2025 10:50

Its just a trend that is fading out.
The big brow.
The huge spider lashes.
Reduclious long fake nails.
A puffy face full of filler.
The older mum hype.
The skinny jab.
Awful fake tan.

Its down to others what they want but i think in due time some will see the effects it has. Sorry to say it but some have made their selfs look older.

PringlesTube · 19/08/2025 10:52

The ones that have had so much filler in that the skin looks so stretched like it’s about to pop 🤢 as awful as the thick fake eyelashes.

I always wonder what happens when they can no longer afford it, or come to their senses. Do they end up with saggy wrinkly lips from all the stretching?
Always looks painful to me.

I find i really notice the difference when I go on holiday outside of the UK. When you see women from different cultures and them being largely un fillered and un botoxed. They look individual and beautiful.

I have a real problem with all women beginning to look the same. It"s bad enough in Hollywood.

Connected1 · 19/08/2025 11:00

I was watching a re-run of the Bruce Parry "Tribe" documentary recently, it was the one set in Ethiopia.
And I realised it put filler into perspective,it's not the worst thing you can do to your lips. Hope the image will post with this! If not, Google Ethiopian lip plates.

To wonder what’s going on with all the big lips
MsTamborineMan · 19/08/2025 11:06

Big heavily filled lips have been a thing since about 2015. It's not a new trend and lots of people are now getting their fillers dissolved. I'm surprised this has suddenly occurred to you.

People get addicted to the feeling of improving themselves. They get used to the size of their lips and enjoyed the feeling of getting bigger lips, so get more and more filler.

A lot of people have filler, way more than you notice. The majority of celebrities will have had botox and filler. Some injectors are of poor quality, some people lose site of how big their lips are and some people like that look. Ultimately its not really any of your business
