Marks & Spencers bra fittings and trans women - they've missed the point

A mother complained to M&S when her daughter was approached in-store by a trans woman asking if she could be of assistance. The daughter needed a bra fitting and was upset as she could see that the member of staff was male. M&S apologised.

Today, in response to the incident, M&S have announced that bra fittings are for biological women only. The solution to the mother's complaint is to not deploy trans women staff in the lingerie department! Banning trans women from having bra fittings discriminates against trans women and doesn't solve the original problem.

YANBU = M&S have messed up with this decision
YABU = Banning trans women from bra fittings protects biological women from being offered bra fittings by trans women staff

Intersex refers to individuals who have physical sex characteristics, such as chromosomes, gonads, or genitals, that do not fit typical definitions of male or female. This condition can manifest at birth, during puberty, or may never be noticeable, and it is not considered a disorder or disease.

cough cough

Yes, it is called Differences of Sexual Development. But the person is still either male OR female. Not both. And not a third sex.

Bras are for people who have tit's, whether they are real or fake, or grew before or after puberty. If a man with a big pair of man boots wanted a bra, he should be able to get one! Likewise the woman who has had a double mastectomy and had implants afterwards should be able to get one. If a trans woman has tits, due to hormones or implants, she needs a bra.

Well he can go to a man for his bra fitting rather than try and force a woman to participate in his fetish

There aren't any male bra fitters. I think you've spotted a gap in the market!

He may need a bra.

However he has no right at all to rock up to M&S with the expectation that he will be allowed into the M&S fitting room area or that any of the M&S female staff must provide a service.

No one is stopping anyone buying a bra but I can see how a female bra fitter may be uncomfortable fitting someone other than a biological women.

No you should be able to look it up yourself women aren't here to do your research for you.
Its simple just go to the gov website look up crime statistics and scroll down to any year and look up then do the maths with the number of transwomen sex offenders per million and then do the same for men and women (the women's figures are unreliable as they include men who have GRCs and even 1 man makes a huge statistical difference when there are so few women sex offenders)

OK from looking at I'm just doing a little bit of thinking from https://www.gires.org.uk/information-on-prevalence-incidence-and-monitoring/ saying that "“Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?

  • 45.7 million (94.0% of the population aged 16 years and over) answered the question.
  • 45.4 million (93.5%) answered “Yes” and 262,000 (0.5%) answered “No”.
  • 2.9 million (6.0%) did not answer the question.
" now your graph is saying 1916 per mil for "men identifieing as woman" now the data I here says 0.5 percent of the UK population does not assign with their gender given at birth Now I don't have a number for how many of them are trans women but I know that 0 .5% is a lot less than 49% and 49% of the population is male so i came to the conclusion there is more male sex offenders just with that massive difference of number it isn't possible for there to be more sex offenders That are male but then again this is only a rough thought

Sure. Has anyone on the thread said that a male person should not be allowed to purchase a bra? I haven’t seen that said on this thread.

However, no female person should have to fit a male person for a bra, just as she should not have to accept a male person fitting her for a bra.

Yes the ONS and MOJ are official government organisations that would face criminal charges under foi laws for knowingly falsifing data. Gires is a biased pro trans group and can and do falsify data all the time
