To think this is not abscene…but fairly normal?!

I have moved house and I finally have a walk in wardrobe. I’ve decided to hang everything except trousers. Friend said this was an obscene amount of clothing and laughed so much. I think it’s not that crazy 😅 what do you think obscene or normal? 🤣 this is just the top section, next section over is dresses and coats etc.

You seem to have the perfect amount of storage to accommodate the amount of clothes you have. So what can be wrong about that??

Pistachiocake · 10/08/2025 22:00

Everyone's different. Some of us need different clothes for work, some wfh in PJs (no judgment!), some go to the gym a lot so need to change, some people go to a lot of formal things, some have kids etc smearing stuff over them, some of us change weight regularly so keep similar things in a range of sizes, especially if we're planning more pregnancies, some keep things we just might wear at some point, some of us have more money/space.
No right or wrong, as long as everyone in your house is fine with it (as in, if one person took up every wardrobe in the house and spent all the clothes budget on themselves).

ElleintheWoods · 10/08/2025 22:05

I think it’s quite a lot, the pictured is about the total amount of items I own in total.

Then again I’m a minimalist, so… For comparison, I own 2x jeans, 1x smart trousers, 3x leggings, 1x capris. That’s all my trousers accounted for, and I think I have too many.

If you think about it, it would be enough stock for a small store.

LillyPJ · 10/08/2025 22:06

I suppose just about all of us in the UK (and similar 'first world's countries) have obscene amounts of clothing and other possessions in comparison to many other societies around the world that live in poverty and have very little. You've got more (and much smarter!) clothes than I have, but I don't think you're all that unusual here.

BellissimoGecko · 10/08/2025 22:12

Good for you. Enjoy it! It looks so organised and clean.

PigletSanders · 10/08/2025 22:14

They’d have a fit if they saw my dressing room. 🫢 soooooo many clothes. All special, not all that expensive, all worn and looked after.

Daboomboom · 10/08/2025 22:16

Thats a huge amount of just tops.

ETA- Ive just noticed that a lot of the tops are duplicates or look very, very similar.

I'm more of a 1 good white tshirt person rather than 6.

Why do you care what people think or are you just showing off? Personally I hate this look as thinks it just looks messy as hell so sorry you haven’t made me jealous!!

How on earth can you think it looks messy?

Ivesaidenough · 10/08/2025 22:25

I'm shocked at how many people think this is normal. I guess I am at the other extreme though, I only have half a wardrobe of clothes!

MeganM3 · 10/08/2025 22:26

Look completely normal to me. And lovely and neat.
Clearly you take care of your clothes so having lots of multiples of colours etc doesn’t matter - they’re probably slightly different and each go with a certain outfit.

I like your organization. I have a fair amount of stuff in a bag for life - although it is inside the wardrobe.

If this is all you have and there is no autumn/winter wardrobe that comes out in a couple of months I think it looks normal to me.

Viviennemary · 10/08/2025 22:29

It's quite a lot of clothes. But I've probably got as many but not well organised and in one place. But does anyone need that amount. No. But it's hard getting rid of clothes even if you never wear them.

OP said dresses and jackets was in the next section of the wardrobe

The additional photo just looked like coats and jackets but maybe there are a couple on the left. My wardrobe is almost the opposite! Lots of dresses, t-shirts etc live in a drawer

Toastandbutterand · 10/08/2025 22:31

I have a bit more than this and I'm frugal mcfrugal boring when it comes to buying clothes.

I last bought a £5 pair of black flats in Primark and I'm still bitching about it.

I honestly don't know where mine comes from. But yours definitely isn't obscene.

In April!

anothernamechangeoccurs · 10/08/2025 22:36

Omg! This is positively conservative! I’ve got twice that amount of tops

Nachoinseachthu · 10/08/2025 22:39

If each top cost £30, that’s £2,160 worth of clothes!

messy? insults don't even make sense anymore!

I know, god help if that’s messy and obscene, I’m not posting my clothes!

Daffodilsarefading · 10/08/2025 22:47

I thought it looked a lot but I’ve just totted up how many white tops I have and it’s 5 plain white t shirts. 4 white blouses. 2 white long sleeved tops. 1 white jumper. 2 white cardigans. Plus 2 cream cardigans and 2 cream jumpers. Thats not to mention white skirts, dresses, and hats I own. That’s just one or 2 colours and I wear a lot of different colours.
So whilst it does look like a lot, it isn’t obscene.

Op your wardrobe is very organised.

Choclabratwatowner88 · 10/08/2025 22:47

I’ll raise you your 20 ish T-shirts for my 109 T-shirts and 20 hoody’s. Recently counted because my sister was amazed at how many I had) I can’t even fit them all hanging up, some live on a tub at the bottom of my wardrobe until I use one and then hang a new one up 😂

FrangipaniBlue · 10/08/2025 22:50

Well I’ve had my eyes opened by this thread…..

Not sure I’d necessarily describe it as obscene but it’s a helluva lot more clothes than I own and I certainly wouldn’t describe that as a capsule wardrobe!

Supersimkin7 · 10/08/2025 22:52

Looks smart and lovely.

Me too. But I'm not very interested in clothes and hate clothes shopping.

Doesn't everyone have boxes at the bottom of their wardrobe?! 🤭
I only have 8 hoodies. I feel hard done by.

I honestly don't buy new clothes btw, they're all presents, hand me downs, or so old I've had them 30 years. I have an eclectic style so it works well for me.
