To think this is not abscene…but fairly normal?!

I have moved house and I finally have a walk in wardrobe. I’ve decided to hang everything except trousers. Friend said this was an obscene amount of clothing and laughed so much. I think it’s not that crazy 😅 what do you think obscene or normal? 🤣 this is just the top section, next section over is dresses and coats etc.

If there is another section the same size as that, then you have at least four times the amount of clothes I have 😂

Moveoverdarlin · 10/08/2025 20:55

I’d say that was sparse, not obscene. It looks immaculate. Mine is stuffed in and is a multitude of colours.

AxolotlEars · 10/08/2025 20:56

I've got much less

OldWomanInACardigan · 10/08/2025 20:56

That's a LOT of clothes - but having said that, I've got 28 dresses

SurferRona · 10/08/2025 21:00

I turned my office into a walk in wardrobe too and removed actual built in wardrobe from the bedroom. Game changer. I think this is quite modest, I have ~ three times this volume for work tops, then Bretons and T-shirts (weekend wear, and jeans) stored elsewhere in drawers etc. I agree with others saying it all looks quite….samey? I minimise any dupes so much as I can. Makes for a more interesting style, I’m interested in self expression and fun in clothes wear.

LoztWorld · 10/08/2025 20:23

Not obscene but I would expect someone who has this many tops to be really into style/fashion and I don’t think you are given that it’s all the same (correct me if I’m wrong).

WHY do you have so many tops? Is it just to cut down on how often you do washing?

People I know with lots of clothes - including me - it’s because they like putting together interesting outfits usually.

God no I’ve never been a sheep to be honest I just wear what I like and what suits me best.

I don’t think that’s much clothing at all!

HiThere2024 · 10/08/2025 19:15

I hope your friend never sees my wardrobe! I dont think I buy much clothes but I have so much more than this!

Me too. And my friend wonders how I manage with so few clothes.

Fenellasbum · 10/08/2025 21:08

It’s not obscene. It’s quite a lot, but it’s organised and makes you happy.

I reckon if some people gathered all their clothing together in one place, they’d have a lot more than they think.

personally I have a very small amount of clothes - but I don’t care about fashion/image.

GleisZwei · 10/08/2025 21:11

We need to see the whole set up - presumably you don't only own tops?
If I was being cheeky I'd say you probably don't need any more black and white striped tops. 😆

Corrag · 10/08/2025 20:26

Ouch!

ok re-reading my post it did seem bitchy which I didn’t intend! I honestly have nothing against the OP’s clothes from what I can see 😂 Just when someone has a walk-in wardrobe etc I tend to think they’ll be a Carrie Bradshaw type who spends a lot of time thinking about clothes (i don’t have a walk-in wardrobe and I’m a bargain basement Bradshaw at best but I do like colour, vintage etc which I guess is what I was trying to say)

I couldn’t be further from Carrie Bradshaw fashion wise. To be honest the house came with the wardrobe, I didn’t purposely look for one 🤣 but I’ll take it. I’ll try to branch out a bit colour wise 🫣😆

You are so organised! I could only dream of such an organised wardrobe. And that is a perfectly normal number of clothes.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 10/08/2025 21:25

There's about 70 tops there. Yes, it's obscene. I'm assuming you're not royalty. Why do you need that many clothes?

WellIquitelikesprouts · 10/08/2025 21:27

That is a lot of tops for sure, but not obscene so long as you actually wear them and don't keep buying more.

viques · 10/08/2025 21:28

Tagyoureit · 10/08/2025 19:19

Its not a massive amount but you clearly have a lot of very similar items, 5 stripey, 5 white and 5 black short sleeve tops.

Do you actually wear all of them?

But in fairness, who really cares whats in your wardrobe besides you? If youre happy, it doesn't really matter, does it?

I agree, have fewer similar clothes and wear them more.

Silverbirchleaf · 10/08/2025 21:32

I gave four stacks of T-shirts in my drawers - T-shirts (a lot) work blouses/tops, strappy vests, and non work blouses. Actually, there’s a small fifth stack, long sleeve for when autumn draws in/cooler summer evenings (plus more winter clothes in the attic). But I like to vary what I wear and wear different things at work and home.

(one chest of drawers and 2/3 of double wardrobe).

Not trying to make anyone jealous at all.

I love you’ve shared this lol. I don’t know many people irl at all so interesting to see such aspects of others and read the ensuing comments!

boxofbuttons · 10/08/2025 21:34

That's a lot compared to me - your t-shirts are more than my entire wardrobe - but I also don't think it's an outrageous amount? Reckon your mate is jealous of the walk-in wardrobe (I am, anyway).

latetothefisting · 10/08/2025 21:36

I wouldn't say obscene exactly but don't think the average person either has or needs what looks like at least 10 black and white horizontal stripey tops 😁

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 10/08/2025 21:38

Kitchenbattle · 10/08/2025 21:02

God no I’ve never been a sheep to be honest I just wear what I like and what suits me best.

"I just wear what I like and what suits me best." Keep doing that!!!
Stop apologising for yourself and calling yourself boring.. That invites a certain type of "friend" to make comments or laugh at you.

It is not an "obscene" amount of clothing..... we have four seasons and a very changeable climate. You need work, sport, going out, special occasion clothing and if you are careful with it then it does build up.. But it is beautifully neat and well organised.

Forget what your friend thinks. Does she often make fun of you like that? Have faith in yourself and your choices and stand up for yourself. Ask her why she's laughing so much.. Is she perfect?

SouthernNights59 · 10/08/2025 21:42

I thought I had far too many clothes, it seems I was wrong! You can have as many clothes as you want to have, but to me that's a huge amount.

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 10/08/2025 21:49

If that’s obscene, I’m seriously questioning what people would think of my collection.

Zebrarhino · 10/08/2025 21:49

I think it's a lot but about the same as me. But we all have too much clothing nowadays so it's skewed our idea of what's normal.

Nachoinseachthu · 10/08/2025 21:53

PestoHoliday · 10/08/2025 19:39

Holy shit, that's 72 tops! That's absolutely loads.

7 black t-shirts, for heaven's sake. Why would you need an entire week's worth of black unless you're a) working a salon or b) a ninja.

Honestly: I have about 11. I have 1 pair of jeans, three other pairs of trousers and about three pairs of leggings. A few skirts and dresses too. I’m keeping my clothes down bc trying to lost weight just now, and declutter (tiny house); but I would find that many tops unbearable. You could wear a different top every day for two months…

I just hate laundry, I hate my eternal chairdrobe. Less really is more.

For context: low income WFH single mum who gets out about 4 nights per year!
