Mortified by DH’s behaviour in Asda

EllyRoff · 09/08/2025 09:01

Went to Asda yesterday afternoon - ours has a pharmacist in there and DH needed some Laxido so we went across. The woman serving said they didn’t have laxido but they did have movicol which is the same thing with a different name. DH asked her if the ingredients is exactly the same as he has to be very careful with what he takes (true) so she went off to check with the pharmacist. Whilst she was gone DH was looking around him all anxiously and then as she reemerged she walked over to him smiling - he promptly sticks two fingers up at her and then runs off!!! Leaving me stood there like an absolute clown. I was mortified, apologised profoundly to her and walked away. Later caught up with DH who had simply gone back to shopping in Asda as if nothing had happened. His excuse was that he was scared to take something different but was feeling pressured and didn’t know what to do so legged it. I asked why on earth he swore at her and he said he “just panicked”. I’m still furious, my mum thinks I’m over-reacting a bit but DH can do no wrong in her eyes. Am I over-reacting??!

What? He literally flicked the V’s in the assistant’s face and ran off? What bizarre behaviour, in all seriousness, is he generally mentally stable?

Who knew constipation could cause such behaviour!

I honestly think I’ve read it all on here!

The world needs far more individuals like your DH. Far too many people taking themselves far too seriously. Good on him.

I beg your parden?
We need more customers to swear at people serving them and trying to do their job?

Zempy · 09/08/2025 09:10

What an absolute prat.

EverestMilton · 09/08/2025 09:11

A normal adult would just politely say "thank you for your time, but actually I just want to go to Boots/Tesco/Wherever and get Laxido which I prefer". Is your husband on glue??

For abusing a shop worker..are you right in the head.

No not really. I'm autistic, and I have an infantile sense of humour. If that qualifies as "not right" then meh, whatever.

Yet he's still without the medication he needed.
Ohhh what a joker eh?!

Plenty of other shops around, it's hardly the end of the world.

Are you joking?

No. I'm entirely serious. The world would be a far better place if more people acted the clown more readily rather than walking around with massive sticks up their arses all day, every day.

Hmm speaking to a pharmacist about a medical condition, exactly the time to act a fool...

There's never a bad time, and all scenario can be funny/comedic.

JDM625 · 09/08/2025 09:11

My first thought was he must have special needs or mental health problems. Does he do other odd things OP?

Being a rude twat doesn’t equal acting the clown.

Fuck off.

Aren’t I hilarious?

Why? Abusive to innocent retail staff. The world does NOT need more dicks.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 09/08/2025 09:14

I'm a shop assistant. NEVER in all my time behind a counter has ANYONE flicked Vs at me - not even the naughty little ten year olds who try to nick chewing gum (who can be quite charming really when you stop them) or the 17 year olds trying to convince me they are old enough to buy cider and vapes. Not one. And if they did then you can bet that everyone working on the shop floor would be told about it and they would be regarded with deep suspicion every time they came into the shop again.

But this isn't funny.
Swearing at a shop assistant is abuse. No wonder so many stores have signs up about not tolerating this.
Also depending on shop, many share information via radio about anyone suspicious.

The pharmacist could already have had to deal with people being rude, moaning about wait times, not having the right medication in stock and this could be another thing that makes their day worse. Why would you think this is funny and an ok thing to do?

Lemonadeat8 · 09/08/2025 09:15

He sounds repulsive. I don’t believe he isn’t like that more often, maybe when you aren’t around.

RosesAndHellebores · 09/08/2025 09:16

@EllyRoff interesting he's behaved similarly when drunk.

I'm a great believer in marriage and happy compromises. If my DH had behaved like that, drunk or sober, I'd have left him.

Your DH's behaviour is aggressive, inappropriate, wholly unacceptable and breaks the usual societal norms. Unless he has untreated mental health issues, he's just a foul mannered ingrate.

Having done the job myself, someone flicking a V and running away doesn't even begin to touch the sides of the "abuse" you are subjected to.

It would be a headscratcher for sure, but not in any way remotely upsetting if you've been in the job for longer than two minutes.

PsychoHotSauce · 09/08/2025 09:16

He could have just left before she came back. She would have just assumed that he was in the toilets and no longer needed the movicol Grin

probably not to the woman who just got that treatment. Or does how it makes her feel not matter?

People have to consider how their words and actions make someone feel and understand what is and what is not appropriate in any given situation.

That behaviour was completely inappropriate and being rude to someone who is simply doing their job and trying to help you is not funny.

Humor relies on the other participants of the joke finding it amusing. From the shop workers perspective she was trying to do her job and be helpful and she just got a weirdo be abusive to her. From her perspective that's not funny. You think people have "sticks up their arses". Did you ever think maybe they don't and you perhaps just completely lack any empathy as to their feelings?

Not taking yourself too seriously doesn't have to include being rude and abusive to random shop workers, or anyone else for that matter.

No, there are just far too many sour-faced gits walking around who really need to take a chill pill.
