To think we’ve lost the concept of men being men and women being women, and society is worse off for it?

Traditional gender roles may not have been perfect but at least they provided structure. Now everything is blurred and instead of progress, we just have confusion. Are relationships stronger? Are people happier? I don’t think so. It feels like in trying to fix things, we’ve just made everything messier.

AIBU to think we’ve lost something valuable?

No we are worse off because of attitudes like yours rising to the for. I know exactly who I am and I play a role in society, being a fucking indentured slave does not appeal

As an autistic person, I’m glad I don’t have to fit into a gender role that I’m not comfortable with.

AgnesX · 08/08/2025 18:36

What are those then? Sounds like 50s crap to me.

Scottishskifun · 08/08/2025 18:37

Provided structure?! Just wow!

I will take my modern husband any day of the week who parents as a team, is perfectly capable of looking after his children and actively wanted shared parental leave for more bonding time.

Shouldigoforarunorhavepancakes · 08/08/2025 18:38

OP, I really hope you’re a man. It is very difficult to understand why a woman could possibly agree with you.

PersephoneSmith · 08/08/2025 18:39

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

No

Reportedex · 08/08/2025 18:39

What era traditional gender roles are you espousing op?

LordEmsworth · 08/08/2025 18:40

I do hope I am not sitting here, seeing a WOMAN expressing an opinion.

Shut up. No one wants to hear what a woman thinks 🙄Stick to your traditional gender role.

Iwasphotoframed · 08/08/2025 18:40

Nah I don’t agree. I have a lovely husband who is currently cooking dinner. I have 3 wonderful children. I’m happy with my job, at present I’m the higher earner in my family but that has flipped over and back between us. I have hobbies and interests and I feel very happy. I had a sizeable amount of adversity in my life so I can feel very proud to be at this stage.

Our lives are what we make of them, if you are not a happy person don’t look for something in the outside world to fix it. Fix it yourself.

I would go one further and say "As a person, I'm glad I don't have to fit into a gender role that I'm not comfortable with".

neverbeenskiing · 08/08/2025 18:40

What on earth are you on about? Who is confused?

Is this yet another thread about Gender Identity or are you some sort of Trad Wife who hankers for the good old days when women weren't supposed to have careers, rights or opinions?

MagnificentBastard · 08/08/2025 18:41

Men are adult human males. Women are adult human females. Gender is mostly made up bollocks used by the patriarchy to oppress and control women.

Quite. What the hell does being autistic have to do with not wanting to fit into an outdated gender role.

CleanShirt · 08/08/2025 18:44

School holidays for the incels.

FourIsNewSix · 08/08/2025 18:44

What do you mean by that?

I'm happily following a social path of a "good human". What good can the social role of "woman" offer to me?

Chattanoogachoo · 08/08/2025 18:44

Looking back at my grandmother's all I see is poverty and grinding hard work. They were both widowed very young and had to farm, housekeep, basically do whatever they could to survive. Gender conformity wasn't an issue for them.In poor communities women didn't have the luxury of having male providers.

MH0084 · 08/08/2025 18:45

Indeed. I am a woman. Whatever I am like is ‘being a woman’, whether that’s grunting over my power tools or giving birth.

SouthLondonMum22 · 08/08/2025 18:50

What's so confusing?

Women are adult humans
Men are adult humans

Neither should be put in a rigid box just because of their sex.

It is simple.

I would have offed myself long ago if my only choice had been "traditional gender roles". I knew from as young as I can remember that I would never share a home with a man and/or a child/children. Feminism's gains made my life liveable and fulfilling for me and I am grateful every day.
