Messaged "celeb" crush and now feel like an idiot

A bit lighthearted. He is a member of a semi- famous indie band. I just replied to his IG story asking about his pet. Nothing at all flirty. I'd had a couple of glasses of wine when I did that. He didn't reply and now I feel like an absolute tit! AIBU to feel like this? He probably gets loads of messages from fans and doesn't really read them so I'm probably BU!

I had the BIGGEST crush on Stuart Pearce when I was about 13!! Absolutely idolised him! You are the ONLY other person i have ever heard say you had a crush on him too! 🤣

Add me to that list. I was 14 during the 1990 World Cup and I just loved him. I even wrote to him with a questionnaire for my GCSE project which was designing a fanzine. He replied answering all the questions (oh God, I can’t remember what they were now and actually dread to think) and sent a signed photograph.

@Arlanymor nooo nothing cringey- that's not my style. Just said that his pet was beautiful and asked its name (I genuinely do love animals) ☺️

😂this is giving fields of wheat - a la Theresa May... I love your innocence!

I've seen Gary Lineker around loads of times, in SW London. He's really gorgeous and dresses so well.

Are you talking about the same Gary Lineker?!

Yup, he can look dog ruff but generally just looks very expensively dressed.

I'm so glad social media wasn't around in the days when I was young enough to have crushes on celebrities. When I was about 15 (40 years ago), my friend and I got hold of a bottle of wine somehow and proceeded to drink a small glass each before collapsing into giggles then writing some very heartfelt, passionate and tipsy letters to The Beastie Boys. Ya, all of 'em.

The cringe was so bad the next day that we never spoke of it again.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 07/08/2025 21:05

@Notascouser1990 Please could you tell me who it is too. Otherwise it'll be keeping me awake tonight 😂.

If it's any consolation I had one of the most mortifying encounters of my life with an incredibly well known person. To the point where even years on I shudder when their name is mentioned.

OneMintWasp · 07/08/2025 21:07

My friend used to write to Fran Healy from Travis on a regular basis when we were in school. He used to reply but was often not around so his girlfriend (now wife) used to send lovely handwritten letters back to her. It was only this year when I saw them supporting Killers at Coop live that I realised how famous he was at the time and how nice it was of both him and his girlfriend!

About 8 years ago I rediscovered a boy band that I'd liked as a teenager, followed them on Twitter, Instagram etc. I started interacting with my favourite member, liking his posts and tweets, writing comments etc. I always try to make sure my comments stand out and are a bit different to everyone else's fairly generic comments about how good he looks in the pic he's posted. It was a good feeling when he started liking my comments!

Then he came to a nearby town as part of a touring show, and they were doing meet and greets. He knew who I was by then. I think he makes a point of remembering his fans individually as much as he can. A few months later he followed me back. I've seen him in several shows since and met him afterwards every time, I always let him know when I'm coming to see him. I like to think we're friends now 😁 So commenting on posts can pay off!

A semi-famous person who has a very very famous parent "liked" quite a few of my tweets (in the pre Musk days) and replied to a some of them in a polite and humorous way. They moved to Bluesky and so did I (not because they did but due to Musk making Twitter such a hell pit) aind they actually re-posted one of my comments. I was rather thrilled!

Duncan Jones?

Duncan Jones?

YES! well guessed, tho my user name is a bit of a give away. I have had a couple of lovely "chats" with him and he once told me I was "very funny" I nearly fainted! He seems to be a lovely bloke

Horsemama11 · 07/08/2025 21:29

I messaged my celeb crush and he messaged back. We have a back and forth once in a while. Made my crush worse. I message more when I’ve had my weekend vodka. He has a partner and is never flirting but it’s a bit if excitement in my mundane life of pets and small kids/house renovations.

ThatCyanCat · 07/08/2025 21:29

Well obviously what you have to do now is post him a dead squirrel with a card saying, "Unlike this squirrel, my love for you will never die."

RobertaFirmino · 07/08/2025 21:29

I wrote to John Barnes when I was about 12. Ooh, he was so fit and handsome back then! He sent me a signed pic and a ton of LFC stationery. I was chuffed!

Yes, your name was the clue! He's always seemed like a decent skin hasn't he? No airs or graces.

My dad was a spurs player back in the day - wonder if it was him? 🤣

Who is your dad?!

Phoebesparrow · 07/08/2025 21:47

I once commented on a 90's singers post on insta (I was soooo in love with him when I was 13)

He was the 'one and only' one to 'like' my post and thanked me

I fangirled for weeks and still dine out on it with dp

Nothing wrong with your comment to him OP, I thought you you were going to say you asked him out on a date or something! If he doesn't want people to comment then he should adjust his privacy settings...

I once drunkenly offered Russell Crowe some smelly cheese on Twitter and he very politely replied to thank me but decline.

I'm not sure why I did this

😂😂😂

Chesney Hawkes, by any chance?

ruethewhirl · 07/08/2025 21:57

If this is who I think it is, I saw him at a festival recently and he’s aged very well…

Chesney Hawkes, by any chance?

Of course!

God I loved him and was going to marry him when I was 13

I'm now older and can't see what I saw in him but I still fangirled at his 'like'

13 year old me would have been so chuffed

Ivytheterrible2025 · 07/08/2025 21:58

Most celebs will have people running their accounts for them, so even if they do reply it's unlikely to be them.

I DID THIS TOO!!!!

I went a bit further and would phone his agent fairly frequently and ask where he would next be appearing. I also sent a birthday card, in which I invited him out for a curry.

Um, there's more. I waited at the stage door a couple of times and got his autograph. One of the times I was pretty drunk and thought about following him.

Don't worry, he's dead now (it wasn't me).

Mine is also dead. I won't say who as it might out me (used to go on about him constantly) - wonder if it's the same person 😆

3bluellamas · 07/08/2025 22:09

My friend constantly posts messages to celebs on instagram talking like she knows them. It's very odd.

So you're not the only weirdo OP!
