Messaged "celeb" crush and now feel like an idiot

A bit lighthearted. He is a member of a semi- famous indie band. I just replied to his IG story asking about his pet. Nothing at all flirty. I'd had a couple of glasses of wine when I did that. He didn't reply and now I feel like an absolute tit! AIBU to feel like this? He probably gets loads of messages from fans and doesn't really read them so I'm probably BU!

He probably won't even see it....he will have lots of messages all the time.

This. ^ I'm not being funny @Notascouser1990 but this celeb will not even have you on his radar. He won't have noticed you/your message amongst the other 100s of messages he's had this week, and he wouldn't know you from Adam.

Don't feel embarrassed. Nothing wrong with a crush. And this man won't even remember getting your message!

When I was 19 after Italia 90 World Cup I had a crush on Gary Lineker (& Stuart Pierce too to be fair).

Driving back from Heathrow airport we drew up into a petrol station forecourt around Hammersmith. To my astonishment, Gary Linker got out of the car in front (he was with another guy). Me and my friend screamed “It’s Gary!!!” with the window open. So he came over to talk to us.

I’d like to tell you he was a complete gentlemen given he was married to Michelle, but he invited us back to his hotel room. Obviously we didn’t go.

So sometimes it’s better to be ignored by your crush - to preserve the illusion.

Lemonadeat8 · 07/08/2025 19:52

They’ll get them constantly from people like you.

MissAmbrosia · 07/08/2025 19:52

Many years ago I did drunken flirting with a mechanic guy in a hotel near Silverstone. We knew the Williams F1 team were there but beyond Damon Hill I was clueless about it all. This guy was so sweet, we had a laugh and then next morning I saw him in reception, where he gave me a big wink and wished me a lovely day. When I got back to work I was talking to a colleague about the F1 team -e.g me clueless - and it turned out I'd been drunken flirting with Jacques Villeneuve- who was the then bloody World Champion and going out with Danni Minogue at the time. He must have thought I knew who he was and I had no idea. I still cringe about this now.

Notascouser1990 · 07/08/2025 19:55

@Mirabai oh my god! Poor Michelle! I always thought he was a bit of a sleezeball. Gave off such a nice guy vibe on MOTD but it didn't buy it. He might have changed now that he's older but you know what some celebs are like. Good for you for not going!

Wouldn't stress about it.
I accidentally messaged someone on insta but was able to delete it.
I have deliberately and soberly emailed three semi-famous people before and all three did reply.
I wasn't being stalkery (honest guv!)
One was a question on their work as I could not find out from other sources, one was me expressing condolences as they'd had the opposite online and one was a reference to their work, so I guess an 'in-joke.'
I was delighted they replied but I have never communicated on social media as it is public and as others have said, probably get bombarded.
Who's the crush?!
Wink

Splendour45 · 07/08/2025 20:03

Be interested to know who it was...

Well.......it was the great Joe Kinnear with a badly broken leg!!!

Spurs fan here.

OMG, Joe Kinnear!

I don't blame you; he was gorgeous when he was young. When I was a kid in the 80s/90s I used to go to the old training ground in Cheshunt in the school holidays and hang around trying to meet the players!

333FionaG · 07/08/2025 20:06

Benson Boone?

Who was it? I’m nosey.

I send celebrities posts I don’t want to lose because I find it easier than using the save feature.

Confused Do you mean you forward other people's posts to celebrity accounts?

That's ... novel.

Notascouser1990 · 07/08/2025 20:08

@333FionaG no, but he looks very similar! Not as famous though.

Just reminded me of my first day on twitter.. I typed in the name of my favourite football player who had left my team years ago, I messaged him saying 'hello, Are you such a player from years ago?' He replied saying yes and I had no clue what to say so I blocked him!

My favourite comedian now follows me, He followed me for a specific reason, I know it's him running the account because I have met him a few times and he's brought up a few twitter related things that I have posted. If it hadn't been for the specific thing he would never have followed me.

Kneeslikethese · 07/08/2025 20:08

Who is it? I Love indie music.

Cheepcheepcheep · 07/08/2025 20:10

Haha I did the same to a DJ (we actually have friends in common but he’s semi-famous) and felt like such a melt the next day!

lifeonmars100 · 07/08/2025 20:10

A semi-famous person who has a very very famous parent "liked" quite a few of my tweets (in the pre Musk days) and replied to a some of them in a polite and humorous way. They moved to Bluesky and so did I (not because they did but due to Musk making Twitter such a hell pit) aind they actually re-posted one of my comments. I was rather thrilled!

ButFirstCovfefe · 07/08/2025 20:19

I messaged, on instagram, my favourite voice actor/narrator. He’s not “famous” but is incredibly well regarded if you know who he is.

We had such a lovely chat (only a few messages but all I wanted was to tell him how much I appreciated his talent.) Was fangirling to my husband about it the whole way through (he is equal fangirl as me).

Without me knowing (and this is so outing if you know) he messaged him to ask for a voice message for my birthday. It was so funny….I’d planned on doing the same for HIS birthday (but he got there first).

And that was that. He did a lovely thing for a fan. I got to “meet” a hero. No one was harmed in any way. Hope you gave him a smile and I bet he’s never given it another thought.

Yeah, people I’m pretty certain won’t ever see them though. Like Charli Xcx gets vegan recipes, Idles get crochet patterns, Sam Fender gets vegetarian recipes. I find it easier to find what I was looking for than the save post function.

I had a crush on a spurs player in the 70's. Heard he was in an orthopedic hospital with leg injury so truanted from school and rang hospital from phone box and got put through!! I was mortified and we had a silly chat, I wished him well and he let me down v gently 😔. I wouldn't give it another thought, he's only a human being not a god and will probably be a bit chuffed x

Oh my god I love this - especially as a fellow Spurs fan 😍 So lovely that you thought to wish him well and that you both had a chat. Do you mind me asking who it was? Please be as cryptic as you wish! I’m not sure I’ll know who it was, but my Dad - long-suffering Spurs fan from before the 70s - might!

ManchesterLu · 07/08/2025 20:21

It's fine to ask a q, but you also have to just remember that he probably gets lots of messages so can't reply to them all. It's as simple as that :).

StrawberryJangle · 07/08/2025 20:22

Half the time on social media it's some random with their name liking or replying to the comment anyway.

People who post stories surely expect followers to comment on them, isn't that the whole purpose?

I often comment, sometimes I get a response, sometimes I dont, you are way overthinking

I rarely comment on the stories of people I actually know 😅

Lifestooshort71 · 07/08/2025 20:23

3KidsPlusDdog · 07/08/2025 19:30

@Lifestooshort71 How did you get put through? Who did you say you were?

Think I said I was his cousin - don't forget football players weren't celebrities like they are now. My sister and I used to walk down White Hart Lane to the turnstile and the team bus would disgorge the team next to us - Jimmy Greaves liked a green suit! - and then they disappeared through a door to put their kit on. All very relaxed 😎

The mortification of being vulnerable.... its always a good check to see if your human.
