To think Corbyn despises Britain?

JamesMacGill · 06/08/2025 23:19

When I was a bit more ‘sixth form politics’ I used to really like Jeremy Corbyn, thought he was a genuine alternative to fatcats, warmongers and austerity enthusiasts.

Now I’ve grown up a little but still follow him on social media. I’ve become increasingly concerned about his almost obsessive coverage of Gaza, to the exclusion of almost everything else that affects Britain. He posts repeatedly commemorating virtually every event where he perceives Britain to have been an oppressor, while rarely acknowledging the reverse.

Today it’s Hiroshima, and while I don’t think anyone is going to delight in the deaths of civilians regardless of whether they were an ally or not, it just feels at this stage that he actively dislikes Britain and exclusively sympathises with anyone who was/is against us. As usual he is very clear in naming America as the nuke dropping aggressor, yet on 7/7 his post only referenced ‘bombings’ and how ‘all faiths came together’. No mention of the aggressors there, or even that it was an act of terrorism.

I think he has gone far beyond simply viewing things through a global, objective lens and the thought of him becoming PM (unlikely but you never know) brings me out in a cold sweat.

His anti-semitism is writ large.
His misogyny is now almost as obvious.

Once you’ve got those clear in your head, it’s easier to stop listening to anything else he has to say. He’s an absolute arse.

EasternStandard · 07/08/2025 09:52

He’ll pick up some votes, including younger voters who will vote next time. I don’t agree with everything but if he speaks up on the small things such as allotments then good.

newposteronthewall · 07/08/2025 09:53

of course he doesn't hate britain, but I think Farage and Reform do.

Absentmindedsmile · 07/08/2025 09:55

‘What these loyalists really think is that the left should only ever be divided on their terms. That entitled and coercive logic has now had consequences.

A new leftwing party, risky and imperfect, could be here to stay. This time, it’s possible that our politics will never be quite the same again.’

Whether it’s Corbyn or a ‘comrade’ (🤮).

Yes Guardian journo. A sensible voice for a change. A clock’s right twice a day.

zerofeeling · 07/08/2025 10:00

No, absolutely no evidence that he 'despises' Britain he comes across as a generally decent idealistic person who wants a fairer society. The Tories have shown far more contempt for Britain.

I believe you were sixth form politics but don't believe you were left wing. Apparently over 600k have expressed interest in his new party and it's a refreshing antidote to the right wing monotony.

Checklist:

Magic Grandpa
Jezbollah
Terrorist
Old
Sixth form politics
Antisemite
Open borders
Far left

Let me know if I've missed one.💤

Of those 600k, I personally know five anti-Corbynites who registered under false "funny" identities, I doubt they are the only ones! So not really trustworthy data...

JamesMacGill · 07/08/2025 10:06

I think he has spent so much time examining Britain’s ills of the past, and associating with people who are inherently anti-West, that it’s warped him into a place where his sympathy is exclusively for anyone who isn’t Britain. It’s like radicalisation, in a way.

I’ve signed up.

Ohhhhhh Jeremee Corbyn.

So refreshing to have some around from the proper left wing.

Votef Labour all my life but Corbyn may well receive my next vote.

Me too! 💪

Calm down ffs. Reform get in - blame Corbyn?! Have you heard yourself? The blame for that possible outcome lies at doors a million miles from Corbyn's and if you had even an ounce of honesty (rather than bagfuls of disingenuousness) you would admit that.

But you're the epitome of "Look! Corbyn!" so I won't be holding my breath.

I used to rate Corbyn, but after working for quite some time in an environment which was Corbyn-adjacent, I no longer do. He's all posturing, performative stances with nothing behind it at all. He's never really grown beyond his own sixth-form politics, and is one of those backbenchers who quite enjoys knowing he can say anything he likes as he will never have to actually deliver anything.

The one time he did have a measure of power and influence, as leader if the Labour Party he got nothing of real value done. The thing I find impossible to forgive, however, is his dishonesty - he was a Leaver, but as leader was never properly honest about it, but instead just continually sabotaged the Labour Remainers. I considered this cowardly and unprincipled.

His current stance on women is also the same shallow, posturing, performative nonsense, with no substance behind it.

I'm a left-wing feminist who is interested in results. I've got no time at all for Corbyn.

He used to remind me of people who stood outside our student union building at lunchtime (late 60s) dishing out Marxist Society leaflets.

I don’t think he ever actually wanted to be PM. Much easier sitting on the opposite benches criticising whatever the Other Lot were doing, rather than putting his money where his mouth is (was).

I agree with you about the "despises Britain" thing, but disagree with you about "decent". What do you think about his dishonesty re Brexit, and his equivocation re comdeming antisemitism?

That's putting it mildly. He is thoroughly dishonest.

BIossomtoes · 07/08/2025 10:15

The only reason he stood on the Labour ticket in the first place was because he knew he’d never get elected as an SWP candidate.

DancingInTheMoonlights · 07/08/2025 10:09

Me too! 💪

There has been a well established left wing party around for years the Socialist Labour Party. Though I believe they were pro Remain so not inline with Corbyn’s true beliefs

I would assume having an interest in left wing politics you woudl have known about this party 🤷🏻‍♀️ I doubt Corbyn’s new ego led party shall differ in views/policies from the SLP

frazzled1 · 07/08/2025 10:24

To me he's someone always keen to criticise the West (e.g. US/UK foreign policy) but ignores / excuses the authoritarianism & misogyny of regimes opposed to the West.

Well that's not true. He was never SWP.

MyNameIsX · 07/08/2025 10:27

The ONLY positive about JC - as I see it - is that he may drag Labour to the left on some issues.

There is nothing that Labour like more than allowing themselves to be tied up in knots, before finally pirouetting.

All positive for Reform and the Tories.

For the first I don't what you mean by 'dishonesty re Brexit' for the second I think he was the victim of a smear campaign whose aim was to force him to denounce any criticism of Israel, which he refused to do.

I'm interested to see what my local MP, Richard Burgeon does now. He's a strong Corbynite who also appears to believe a man can be a woman with a touch of blusher. If he's true to his "socialist" beliefs he will jump ship. If not he'll stay put, which will put him in a bad light. Yet another career politician
