To think Corbyn despises Britain?

JamesMacGill · 06/08/2025 23:19

When I was a bit more ‘sixth form politics’ I used to really like Jeremy Corbyn, thought he was a genuine alternative to fatcats, warmongers and austerity enthusiasts.

Now I’ve grown up a little but still follow him on social media. I’ve become increasingly concerned about his almost obsessive coverage of Gaza, to the exclusion of almost everything else that affects Britain. He posts repeatedly commemorating virtually every event where he perceives Britain to have been an oppressor, while rarely acknowledging the reverse.

Today it’s Hiroshima, and while I don’t think anyone is going to delight in the deaths of civilians regardless of whether they were an ally or not, it just feels at this stage that he actively dislikes Britain and exclusively sympathises with anyone who was/is against us. As usual he is very clear in naming America as the nuke dropping aggressor, yet on 7/7 his post only referenced ‘bombings’ and how ‘all faiths came together’. No mention of the aggressors there, or even that it was an act of terrorism.

I think he has gone far beyond simply viewing things through a global, objective lens and the thought of him becoming PM (unlikely but you never know) brings me out in a cold sweat.

I think he’s a complete irrelevance and doubt his new party will even exist by 2029, when he’ll be 80. Anyone else remember the last Labour splinter party? Change UK lasted all of ten months and never fielded a single candidate for election.

Yes he’s finished Labour at the next GE, their margins are wafer thin as it is. Hello, Reform 👋🏻

Calm down ffs. Reform get in - blame Corbyn?! Have you heard yourself? The blame for that possible outcome lies at doors a million miles from Corbyn's and if you had even an ounce of honesty (rather than bagfuls of disingenuousness) you would admit that.

But you're the epitome of "Look! Corbyn!" so I won't be holding my breath.

@BIossomtoes Ah but Sultana is younger and impressive. Even if JC shuffles off this mortal coil early, she’ll be there.

‘Labour loyalists will say that a left divided is a left defeated. But if they truly believed that, Starmer’s party and government would be much more pluralist.

What these loyalists really think is that the left should only ever be divided on their terms. That entitled and coercive logic has now had consequences.

A new leftwing party, risky and imperfect, could be here to stay. This time, it’s possible that our politics will never be quite the same again.’

Despite the chaos of its launch, Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s new party has struck a nerve | Andy Beckett

Scathing rightwing coverage contains a revealing note of alarm: this is more than just a rebellion, and it’s gaining supporters fast, says Guardian columnist Andy Beckett

Sultana isn’t impressive. She’s a young, extremely attractive woman who is incredibly confident but does little bar post about Gaza and how awful Britain is.

She has very little life experience (practically none actually) and is set to be a career politician who is excellent with soundbites but clueless when it comes to the complexities of running a country.

I don’t want to derail but Kemi Badenoch is extremely impressive and my favourite by a country mile. However she’s tethered to the corpse of the Conservative Party so it’s very unlikely her talents will come to fruition. Which is a real shame as I think she’s got balls of steel and a very intelligent analytical mind.

No interest in the victims of grooming gangs, in fact Sarah Champion had to resign for speaking out about them.

He loves Islamists and he hates Britain, I'm very much looking forward to watching him fail again. He can count on votes from child groomers, terrorists and their supporters though. 600000 and counting.

Yes that was a bloody scandal. I’d been covering the parliamentary committee the day before (am a journo). That column was just setting out what had been said in evidence. It was factual. Fired for telling the truth - I was disgusted.

Also speaking as a journo his hatred of the mainstream media was at least part-confected. His office would be told clearly by the papers “our deadline is (eg) 9pm, the first edition is printing at 10.30pm” and then they’d not comment until 11pm. And then they’d make a fuss about not being quoted in the first edition, which was on the stands by the time they picked the phone up.

She’s not impressive to me at all, none of them are. I meant the people who might vote for the party with no name. The only ‘left wing’ person who’s impressive to me these days, is Burnham. He’s tucked up tight up North and the party luvvies can’t bear him.

brunettemic · 07/08/2025 09:30

The guy is a complete moron. Failed to take a position on Brexit that swung a lot of voters to vote out and lost one of the easiest elections to win in history, leaving us in the mess that just got worse.

Do you remember Change UK? Chuka Umunna was young and impressive, a great loss to the Labour Party. Who remembers him now?

No we need to take it back further than that.

To another Labour party moron. The imbecile blood brother Ed Milliband.

Stabbed his competent and electable brother David M in the back in an attempt to be Labour party leader.

With the support of the trade unions (I was going to say equally moronic, but that they are not ££££), he then was elected as Labour party leader …this meant that Labour then lost the election (they would have won with Dave Milliband, the competent electable brother) to Cameron.

And we know what happened next.

Ohthatsabitshit · 07/08/2025 09:39

I think if the choice is Kemi, Corbyn, or Kier I’d go Corbyn but I doubt he’ll run.

Chukka had too many skeletons in his closet, allegedly.

I have no idea what most of that post means. Splinter parties rarely last. I don’t see this one as being any different.

Err, they were BRITISH.

Ah yes. Mohammad Sidique Khan, Sherzad Tanweer, Hasib Hussain and Jamaican born muslim convert Germaine Lindsay. As British as Big Ben or Axel Rudakubana.

Must remember to thank their parents for culturally enriching us.

My objection is to the fact he wouldn’t mention terrorism, Islamism, or any of the relevant drivers when discussing the bombings, but is more than happy to mention specifics when the West is the perpetrator.

I tried to like her but in all honesty, her policy of snipping from the side lines and having no policies is a mistake.

One reason why, despite a Labour Govt open goal, the Cons are so far behind the Govt in the polls and given a Starmer PM or a Kemi PM, she is by far, the least favoured.

Its not a derail at all, she is a party leader, as is Corbyn.

Perhaps she should join Reform? like many of her colleagues, very little to chose between the 2 parties now.

Whatafustercluck · 07/08/2025 09:48

I'm not sure that I fall for the rhetoric that he hates Britain. But there's only one person I blame almost equally to Cameron for the Brexit shit show that unfolded - and that's Corbyn. I can see how he comes across as an obsessive as far as foreign affairs is concerned.

I've always been a Labour voter, never liked Corbyn though and have no intention of joining his party. I'm increasingly unsettled, though, by the direction the Labour government is taking. I understand that it was never going to be lollipops and rainbows in the first term, after the UK was ruined for 14 years. But I'm perplexed by policies such as selling off allotments. I mean, why? How much is it going to gain, and at what cost? It seems like a small issue, but a friend's mum lost her daughter a few years ago and having an allotment to focus on was the one thing that improved her mental health and likely prevented her suicide.

It all feels a bit like rearranging the deck chairs. The reality is that in 4 years, the UK faces the most problematic/ dangerous general election ever. A familiar story in some respects - the electorate dividing themselves to fall behind the least worst option. But at this time, I can't see how we will avoid a Reform government. At which point, I hope Corbyn will be satisfied with the catastrophic outcome because in a few years, he can look back and again blame the UK for everything that unfolds thereafter.

Perhaps you apply this to the previous and current Con leaders......
