To be appalled at Catherine Zeta-Jones' face?

We've been waiting to watch season two of Wednesday and when we saw it today we were all really shocked at the state of CZJ's face. My children struggled to recognise her!
She's obviously had a facelift between S1 and S2, but it was really badly done. Her lips are all stretched out and her eyes are pulled up to her hairline. She looks like she is heading into Jocelyn Wildenstein territory.
It's really sad, because she was always such a pretty woman and it was good to see an older woman (not 20-something) looking amazing in a TV show.

Wow CZJ PR is working really hard on this thread tonight.

From insulting and shaming posters, to making comments forcing the conversation to talk about other things.

The fact is CZJ has chosen to engage in cosemtics procedures for reasons known only to herself. These cosemetic procedures/surgeries have altered her appearance to the point where it is noticeable and is affecting the way her face move.

The very normal reaction of seeing someone who is familliar altered to the point where they sadly look very similar to other women of resources is completely fine. She chose to have the procedures, and people will notice.

Yes the industry is shit where they bias very attractive and talented women like CZJ undergo extreme makeovers to fit a mould and men as well ( I hear there is alot of "supplements" on the menu for the Marvel actors).

What? It's a normal action to call someone's alleged face alterations 'appalling' - what world do you live in? I'm not her PR by the way, just a normal person who doesn't believe in being nasty.

I voted YANBU. Because while I don’t have any issues per se with plastic surgery in principle (or CZJ face in particular), as obviously their face, their choice - I must admit I find the state of many actors faces distracting now (male and female).

It’s not even just older actors - many in Hollywood now seem to have foreheads that don’t move, puffy checks compared to the rest of their face and/or stretched and overly full lips etc. I guess it’s just a new kind of beauty trend - maybe I’d have been just as distracted by the overly plucked brows of the starlets of yesteryear if I watched more old films?

But I must admit I do often prefer to watch Hollywood TV and film from the pre-2010’s when surgery/fillers just didn’t seem so obvious. Or UK film/tv where for the most part, it doesn’t seem quite as bad yet (or at least generally a bit more subtle). Perhaps selfishly I don’t want to be distracted from the dialogue or the cinematography by some actors “interesting” looking face! 😳

CZJ is still stunning and a good Morticia.
Angelica Huston was best Morticia and the guy who played her husband was best Gomez, I’ll have to check his name but he was handsome, suave, charming and was all over Morticia! Set the floor ablaze (literally) with their tango 😂
The casting in Wednesday is very good apart from Gomez who for me isn’t handsome or charming enough, very odd casting.
Very pleased at the casting of Joanna Lumley as Grandma-ma! She looks absolutely fabulous!

Raoul Julia?

Do people really think this recent picture looks natural?

I'm sorry to say she looks likee she had had a lot of work. If we hadn't normalised this sort of look people would be horrified. But now it's not as bad as some others so we think it's alright.

Soukmyfalafel · 06/08/2025 22:51

It's your bog standard Hollywood face. Don't look young, don't look old either, just like you've had some work done. It's the uniform of being a celebrity it seems.

At least it's a face lift and not fuck loads of fillers.

DreamTheMoors · 06/08/2025 22:52

2021x · 06/08/2025 21:46

Jesus, you have never had a reaction and then calmed down and rethrought your words when you see a bit more sense? What an absolute angel you are.

The OP is right, her face has been messed with and she doesn't look good- it is distracting. I feel the same about Kristen Davies were her face is so over done it looks distracting.

This is not an insult its a recognition that these people are in a dangerous bubble.

I would NEVER EVER say something like what @Supercompetitivesibling posted out loud, not to mention making a public post about it.

So, no - I can’t say I have.

And I’m not Jesus - obviously.

Gomez in Wednesday actually looks far closer to the Charles Addams original character than previous actors did.

Catherine Zeta jones like many actresses has probably had a bit of work done but she does get a lot of make up on her in Wednesday to look more like Mortica. She still looks great in real life.

JoyDivision79 · 06/08/2025 22:54

Seriously, OP using the word appalled really doesn't warrant the clutching.

I can understand why that word felt appropriate in the heat of the moment for OP.

It is appalling that women are butchering their faces. And it is appalling when people we recognise start morphing into something from the animal kingdom. That's not being deliberately callous. It's incredibly unsettling.

I think she looks ok in that picture Racoon posted - and it's because that stretched to fook look is becoming normalised to me I think.

Yes she's still beautiful, amazing, stunning and brave. Yet let's be allowed to reflect on the discomfort. It doesn't mean she is an appalling human being in any way.

Horses7 · 06/08/2025 22:54

Robin67 · 06/08/2025 22:50

Raoul Julia?

Yes - thanks, thought I’d posted his name as a ps a couple of minutes later but perhaps I didn’t press ‘post’ 🙈

MyDadWasAnArse · 06/08/2025 22:57

2021x · 06/08/2025 21:49

These arguments make no sense. The OP doesn't make a living by choosing to put her face on international media, but CZJ. Therefore it is perfectly within the range of normal behaviour to notice when someone has had so much work she looks unnatural.

I've said exactly the same, it's pathetic to keep posting that.

Gomez = Raul Julia, no one else can come close imo so it doesn’t matter how many others have played him.

ManchesterLu · 06/08/2025 23:02

Let us take a moment and be thankful that we don't work in industries where we have to mutilate our bodies, at great risk to ourselves, to ensure we continue to get work. I can't imagine living like that. I doubt all that many celebs do is for shallow reasons of their own. It's because the entire industry is shallow, and those who "age gracefully" either don't get work, or just get the role of batty grandma until they retire.

SpaceRaccoon · 06/08/2025 23:05

Btw I agree that woman can't win. "Age gracefully" yet if a celebrity woman actually dares to, she gets horrible comments.
What is actually seems to mean is have procedures but ensure they're subtle.

Look at all the flak Judy Finnegan gets.

Years ago I saw a post that said Prince Philip "looks a bugger" - the guy was about 95. Was he supposed to have had Botox, fillers, hair transplant?

henlake7 · 06/08/2025 23:14

I hadnt noticed anything unusual about her in Wednesday, still looks like herself to me.
I haven't seen her irl though. Can't judge from Morticia as I think she is supposed to look abit fake and unexpressive, isnt she?

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 06/08/2025 23:18

I don't rate Anjelica Houston as Morticia. Fabulous Miss Battle-Axe, though!

Mellowisp · 06/08/2025 23:23

To be fair, I don't envy women like her. She was the most utterly stunning woman in her prime so it must be tough losing your looks compared with, for example; me 😅

Wouldn't mind her money, but not the pressure to look perfect.

Edited

When I think about the disparity in aesthetic ageing between men and women, this is the couple that comes to mind. He probably looks slightly younger, less lived in, Judy looks absolutely fine, just older and a woman who has birthed children.

She seems to be comfortable as does he which is refreshing.

I don't understand why men aesthetically age better from an evolution perspective when women are judged on their appearance before anything else.

It makes me think that from a reproduction perspective only, couples aren't possibly meant to be monogamous together past child rearing...so men can continue to propogate their seed with a new fertile next option 🤮. I'm digressing way too much 😆

usedtobeaylis · 06/08/2025 23:49

I started the second series of Wednesday tonight and it is noticeable. I'm not judging her for it but there's no point pretending either. Though I don't think the makeup is helping - they've given her the palest eyebrows going. She's got a stunning face and the character has pitch black hair, she needs stronger eyebrows.

DisabledDemon · 07/08/2025 00:02

Were you looking, perhaps, at her persona in Wednesday where she looks quite funereal?

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 07/08/2025 00:06

I think she's a very beautiful woman, and it's hard as PP say to grow old gracefully as a celebrity, especially as female whose looks are very much part of her success.

I think if it's been done well, her face-lift should be enhancing her looks, which personally I think it does.

I remember being compared to her when I was an 18 year old and in the audience of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. My godfather won £500k and my dad was one of the "phone a friends". For some reason, the camera and production crew decided that they would rather keep showing me and the other girl who was the daughter of the other friend on call, and we were taking up more air time than Pete Lee in the hot seat 😳😆😂 A journo for the Daily Express compared me to C Z-J and mentioned I was subtle variations on the theme of Catherine....praise indeed 😆😂 I couldn't see it myself, but being compared to a beautiful star like her made my week at the time - so I don't like to hear anything bad said about her 😄😅

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 07/08/2025 00:21

Are you sure thats not just makeup etc for the programme? Because l watched her on The one show and she looked gorgeous and natural.

Unkind. There are SO many other things to be appalled by in the world right now, namely the genocide in Gaza. Throw your energy into making the world a better place OP.
