To be appalled at Catherine Zeta-Jones' face?

We've been waiting to watch season two of Wednesday and when we saw it today we were all really shocked at the state of CZJ's face. My children struggled to recognise her!
She's obviously had a facelift between S1 and S2, but it was really badly done. Her lips are all stretched out and her eyes are pulled up to her hairline. She looks like she is heading into Jocelyn Wildenstein territory.
It's really sad, because she was always such a pretty woman and it was good to see an older woman (not 20-something) looking amazing in a TV show.

Yeah she’s definitely had an eyelift as she’s lost her classic hooded broody eyes, so she can’t do the same look anymore. She looks shocked all the time. It’s sad as she’s lost one of her main characteristics, but I don’t feel anything negative to her because the pressure must be insane for celebs
But weight loss makes her look different too.

Also in season one she’d had a lot of work done too, she was full of filler so she wasn’t natural then.
Women are damned if they do and damned

if they don’t

"Ugly black soul?" "Fucking vile?"

Are you actually OK?

Yep - it’s definitely not the OP who is ‘fucking vile’ and has an ‘ugly black soul’

And you think posting something this unpleasant makes you, what.. the better person?

You're right. I did miss the mark, and it came across badly. What I meant from this is that it's really sad that she's felt she needed to have a facelift, because she's a beautiful woman, and it's sad to see that she can't just be herself. It was shocking to see how different her face looks.

it's sad to see that she can't just be herself

The thing is, you are not qualified to judge what makes another woman feel like herself. Only she knows what makes her feel 'herself'. Sometimes 'being yourself' isn't about what you think it is.

I think there is an entire feminist analysis around that very thing tbh and I think it is important that people can talk about it, especially women between themselves.

And being “appalled” by a human beings face is ok? A human being with feelings? That is vile in my opinion, but you do you 🤷🏼‍♀️

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 07/08/2025 20:31

We just saw s2 p1. I would not have been 100%certain it was CZJ from the face alone as the new shape of her eyes and amount of Botox and filler have really changed her appearance from front on. If you know it's her, then it looks like her. But my husband who doesn't watch Wednesday could not identify her. Her voice and beguiling manner are of course unchanged. She looked fully like her lovely self however in profile and during the duel scene. It will take a bit of getting used to as it seems her role in this series will be a lot more significant.

once more for the intellectually challenged amongst you. No one is criticising women for growing older and looking older. People are commenting on the women butchering their faces and looking like plastic freaks.
The person above had it right- beautiful women look beautiful when older too, they just look different. Honor Blackman still looked lovely at 80 odd. Wrinkly and lovely.
CZJ had a beautiful face and would still look gorgeous without work - just not young.
unfortunately we can all see how the pressure can take over in Hollywood.

Her money. Her face. Her choice. Would I do that to my lovely face? No, but nature is doing the same damn thing to it that a bad plastic surgeon would.

I would NEVER EVER say something like what @Supercompetitivesibling posted out loud, not to mention making a public post about it.

So, no - I can’t say I have.

And I’m not Jesus - obviously.

I agree with you. CZJ or someone close to her might read this. Imagine how they might feel. Just because someone has a public role doesn’t mean that they should not be afforded the dignity bestowed on everybody else.

Mirabai · 09/08/2025 21:40

Her money. Her face. Her choice.

Has anyone actually indicated she’s not free to do with her money and face as she chooses?

Yes. Many are implying that she should not have done anything to her face.

Mirabai · 09/08/2025 22:32

You’ve missed the point Marie. Posters are saying that she has sadly damaged her face as she looked better without cosmetic work. No-one has said she is not free modify her face how she likes.

Andbegin · 10/08/2025 09:21

Maybe one of the reasons for having even odd looking surgery, is that it’s much easier maintain continuity?
The problem with natural aging is that you never know what’s going to change next. A year on and theres a bit of new sag or teeth have got wonkier etc.
Even if you look a bit weird the face you are going for is a bit more predictable.

KimberleyClark · 10/08/2025 09:29

I find myself admiring actors like Joanne Froggatt and Sura none Jones who don’t look like they bother with the surgeon’s knife much if at all (though no doubt someone will be along to tell me they’ve had shedloads done.

Joanne Froggatt is born 1980 & only 44. The real start of the sag & visible ageing is apparent on camera & similar post meno - 56 ish. It’s relatively easy to look good until then with a steady weight & skincare, tweakments.

She hasn’t blown up her lips though, which plenty of women a lot younger than her do.

Not character actresses typically or those with her sort of profile though? Laura Carmichael etc.

One of those women is my cousin. She's had a bit of Botox in her forehead and that's as far as she's gone.

Both fantastic actresses :). Both very young still 40s & both look great. No need for more.

I think for some in public eye the mid 50s on ‘sag’ is tough. It’s when you see yourself on screen/camera & see the opposite re: Gillian Anderson’s enviably tight jawline. When your jowls move the split second after you do. Some go a bit crazy line chasing after that. Thing is the lines are not what ages you it’s the disappearing eyes & sag. Photo face time etc magnify esp in less than flattering light.

I saw a photograph of Karren Brady online today and she really is unrecognisable

Firstholiday · 19/08/2025 23:10

I saw that too, she was always attractive but now looks so different

Gowlett · 21/08/2025 04:15

Not younger than JF, but what’s happening with Anna Friel’s top lip? Is it a Lesley Ash scenario?

What I’ve noticed is that younger women want to plump their lips & older women want to fill out the (smokers) lines above their top lip. Which results in that rigid line of whatever the stuff is (filler?) above the lip, which pulls down the whole mouth.

Jennifer Aniston has it. I’m 50, so my face hasn’t collapsed yet, but it’s started… I’m sure I won’t like it when it gets worse, but I’m not on screen so it won’t be a problem for me.

Karren Brady, my take is that she has an Influencer daughter who trades on her looks & body. She seems the sort to compete… Her daughter has a toddler & is pregnant again. No coincidence that KB’s glow-up has occurred during the time when her daughter hasn’t got the figure she once had.

I do understand older women getting facial work done, though it rarely looks good. Mel B’s eye job? Ditto Gwyneth Paltrow’s! And Katie Price’s nose is ruined (never mind the rest). But, I hate seeing young women disfiguring their faces.

YelloDaisy · 21/08/2025 05:42

I understand people looking better but the desperate need to look younger than they are is not good - Catherine zeta jones should look older in that part
