To be appalled at Catherine Zeta-Jones' face?

We've been waiting to watch season two of Wednesday and when we saw it today we were all really shocked at the state of CZJ's face. My children struggled to recognise her!
She's obviously had a facelift between S1 and S2, but it was really badly done. Her lips are all stretched out and her eyes are pulled up to her hairline. She looks like she is heading into Jocelyn Wildenstein territory.
It's really sad, because she was always such a pretty woman and it was good to see an older woman (not 20-something) looking amazing in a TV show.

Also I love that you can hear her accent IRL although it's got that USA twang now, but that's par for the course! (I'm in Swansea, so massively biased!)

She is very talented & has always been beautiful but I’d argue it’s her beauty that marked her out especially & made her famous.

I had a friend in 42nd St with her & there was a feeling others were far more talented but her extraordinary, comparative beauty set her up for super stardom. Possibly some envy there too but she was given more unmerited opportunity was felt at time IME re: comparative others. Twas ever thus, real beauty together with talent & good/steady mental health, uncommon.

I think the world should stop judging women who have work done.

I think it's absolutely fine to have a critical discussion about the massive cosmetic surgey industry and what drives some women to be unable to accept their own appearance.
As individuals sure, woman can spend their own money on what they like, and it's not illegal, but it's a wider social issue as well.

Is it that all these people are right and you quite “missed the mark,” or did you expect everyone to agree with you and were surprised by the blowback?

As it is, Nicole Kidman won best actress by a nose (The hours) which really should have gone to Salma Hayek for Frida. These are the hills I will die on!

I have wondered about the odd nip and tuck. It's not for me as I don't have the excess money that can't be put to good use elsewhere. But I noticed when looking at before and afters that there are many, many regular, non-glam people - including men - who have had subtle work done and they mostly look better. They are often people who had huge noses and/or receding chins. Why not fix something like that if you want to and can afford it? Lots of people say that they feel so much better afterward. I would never judge someone for that. Oh - and I remember many years ago, Anne Robinson had a facelift and everyone was taking about it. She'd admitted to it. I hadn't noticed anything wrong with her face before, but equally I also think she looked good afterwards.

If I had the money I would be tweaking bits of me to be honest and noone looks at my saggy faceog except me. She looks better than some of the young people I see who have laminated, eyelashed, makeuped, booked and pumped allsorts into their faces.It's a old story though. My mum didnt like what i wore when i was young and so i look at some young trends now and think.theyre hideous. So it's a each to their own. If you don't like it that's your prerogative, but maybe not encourage a bit of personality bashing. She has had her issues i believe and having watched a short video of her hubby interacting with her, he maybe ( though who really knows) isnt the easiest to live with.

That's not how this thread started though - it started with the title 'appalled' - we of course can talk about this, but should it start from knocking a woman down for her choices and saying she essentially looks horrific? Come on...

@Horsie it's risky. I like watching a programme called Botched. It's two surgeons who see patients who have birth defects, issues from accidents and other trauma, but a lot of who they see is people who have been left with horrible issues from cosmetic surgeries, including some life-threatening ones.

It's actually such a crazy risk to take with your health.

Be careful - was it CZJ who switched categories or was it the Academy? She has no power over nominations or her category and unfair to suggest otherwise.

Sorry as per my above - nominees cannot choose their categories, nor switch categories. Blame the Academy but not the individual, that's so unfair and inaccurate (not saying that you are being either, but just making the case for how it actually works - this idea that people 'choose' what to submit - it can never be done by the nominee...)

What's the point of all the comments asking the OP to post a picture? That's not what's being discussed. I'm guessing she hasn't fiddled with her face so that sort of comment is silly.

I agree the OP used some overly strong words although we shouldn't have to stop discussing fiddling with your face, especially where it's extreme, as otherwise you're normalising it for the sake of "#BeingKind"

TBH I saw her on the One Show and didn't recognise her at first.

She's still a beautiful woman and more importantly talented, intelligent and funny. Perhaps if female celebrities weren't constantly scrutinised for ageing and judged on their looks, they wouldn't feel the need to have cosmetic procedures?

Women' can't win whatever they do. Ulrika Johnson had loads of flack recently for appearing on a podcast with no make up, looking older and very tanned. You never see men of a similar age being criticised for their looks. As long as they are happy and healthy, who cares?

I just think women should be left alone.

No you are 100% correct - all these other comments are whack. These people are in the spotlight constantly. Tabloids would not exist if people did not talk about them. I was sooooo shocked when I saw her face, it’s giving JOKER vibes. She has always been beautiful. There is nothing wrong with surgery. But she got some baaaad surgery, damn. Watch the show, anyone who disagrees might need to book an appointment at Specsavers. It’s not rude it’s just what the fuck happened to her face. There have been plenty aging celebs that have aged gracefully AND also many that have aged well with surgery. I’m so glad you said it. Coz I googled it 10 SECONDS into the episode. Damn.
