To be appalled at Catherine Zeta-Jones' face?

We've been waiting to watch season two of Wednesday and when we saw it today we were all really shocked at the state of CZJ's face. My children struggled to recognise her!
She's obviously had a facelift between S1 and S2, but it was really badly done. Her lips are all stretched out and her eyes are pulled up to her hairline. She looks like she is heading into Jocelyn Wildenstein territory.
It's really sad, because she was always such a pretty woman and it was good to see an older woman (not 20-something) looking amazing in a TV show.

I haven;t seen her face, but years ago when dd was small we had brunch on upper West Side NY (like you do) and she and Michael Douglas were there with their kids. DD, similar age, went to chat. I asked if she was bothering them (well in fact I was a bit gobstruck and did wild gesticulating to that effect) but they were absolutely lovely and dd sat there happily for ages chatting to CZJ and the children. She was stunningly gorgeous in RL. She's about the same age as me, I think, so I can see the temptation for a bit of help.

She has heavy make up on in Wednesday. I think she looks amazing! She’s lost quite a lot of weight recently though so does look a bit different.

It’s not about individuals like CZJ or the OP. It’s about our society being so fucked up that we cut into women’s faces to make sure they mustn’t look their age.

I don’t think the op was having a pop at czj. That’s not how I read it at all.

It's getting worse. I have an incredibly naturally attractive young cousin in her 20s who has morphed into a strange look with various procedures.

I believe I would have tried them all in my youth. I had significant low self esteem which required counselling ( the best choice I made) - yet fixated on my physical appearance as the answer.

I wonder how older actresses do career wise if they age naturally and are no longer beautiful, compared to those having work.

Men do seem to age significantly better from a purely cosmetic perspective compared to women. It's quite cruel when so much importance is placed on women's appearance that we don't seem to aesthetically match with age. ( Imo anyway).

Robin67 · 06/08/2025 20:39

I've just googled and you are right OP! She looks insanely different and she doesn't look good. I was shocked that she is only in her 50s. It is very sad if she has been pressured into doing this.

Maybe some of us don't like the nasty comments aimed at CZJ?

I mean the word 'appalled' caught my eye.

As I suppose it was intended to... so you can't then say: "Oh don't reply" when it's a rage-bait title.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 06/08/2025 20:41

Your OP is appalling.

If my mum spoke this way about other people, I think it would make me sad and embarrassed. I hope you didn't say the things you said in your OP, in front of your children.

Robin67 · 06/08/2025 20:41

Zov · 06/08/2025 19:48

What a disgusting thread. 😠 She looks fine to me. Bit jealous are you @Supercompetitivesibling ???! Hmm As has been said, let's see a photograph of YOU.

And 'your children struggled to recognise her?'

Really? Hmm Most 'children' don't really know who she is, and even if they do, they won't remember her from 20+ years ago when she was younger/before she had any fillers.

Nasty thread. Truly.

Might OPs children have recognised her from season 1?

You're right. I did miss the mark, and it came across badly. What I meant from this is that it's really sad that she's felt she needed to have a facelift, because she's a beautiful woman, and it's sad to see that she can't just be herself. It was shocking to see how different her face looks.

It happens, dont beat yourself up, no-one is perfect

Celebs get talked about, its part of life

Woman puts herself out there in the public eye, craving attention. If she shifts her face around significantly, people will notice and say something. I've seen some shocking work done on faces and lips, Botox, lifts etc, not just on slebs. If they make themselves look like clowns people are going to comment, whoever they are.

Yes, she's obviously just 'craving' attention.

Or maybe she's just living her life.

SpaceRaccoon · 06/08/2025 20:51

OP I think you're getting a hard time. Cosmetic surgery and women is actually an important topic and it is fucking depressing to see beautiful, talented, successful women screw with their faces.

And no I don't think she looks good from the recent work done - I've googled images and she has that cat-eyed, overstretched look. It's uncanny valley.

MySaintedAunt · 06/08/2025 20:54

She's the same age as me, and my face has very suddenly descended into 'bag of spanners' territory and it's disconcerting, to say the least.

I remember seeing her in 42nd Street as a 17/18 yo - she's an incredibly talented singer and dancer, and i wish we could respect people for their talents and stop giving a shit about their faces. But there's no sign of that happening, esp for women who were considered beautiful as youngsters then committed the sin of aging. So until there's a seismic shift in our attitude to aging, especially aging women, i honestly can't blame CZJ or any 'celeb' who feels cosmetic procedures are the only option.

Horsie · 06/08/2025 20:55

There's a photo of her on the red carpet from a few days ago, and she looks very different to how she looks in Season 2. I think she has a filter on her face in Wednesday to make her look spookily smooth and give her sharper cheekbones, in an echo of a female Disney villain.

DiscoBob · 06/08/2025 20:56

I just looked and she does look like she's had quite a bit of work. She looks a bit like Charli XCX now?! But she doesn't look awful. She looks quite good.

Her husband looks like a fucking frog so why not start a post about his boat?

Post menopause for some ageing is very noticeable. You look suddenly haggard & in facetime etc which we all use unlike past. Social media all image based.

You're absolutely right OP, and it shouldn't be ignored, normalised or accepted. I haven't looked at CZJ, but recently was disturbed to see Kelly Osbourne who is unrecognisable. It's sad and shocking.

Frequency · 06/08/2025 21:00

I had to Google because I haven't seen her in a while. Apart from one picture where she has a severe ponytail and some badly done contour, she looks amazing.

I feel like I'm missing something?

Gettingbysomehow · 06/08/2025 21:00

Don't scare me, Im off for a facelift next year. My neck has gone south. Mind you I have done my research.
If I come back looking like Mrs Wildensteen I will be pissed.

FishPie2 · 06/08/2025 21:00

She was on The One Show last week without any filters etc and I didn't notice "the state of her face". I thought how good she was looking, whether she has had a face lift or not.

Horsie · 06/08/2025 21:01

I think the world should stop judging women who have work done. They probably do it for themselves and because they want to, and it's their bodies so why not? Same as judging women who do and don't wear makeup or heels or whatever other decoration/style you want to mention. I think that whatever women do or don't want to do with their looks is all equally good and that we, as a society, should stop gossiping about women's looks. I support full-on glamour and full-on lack of glamour and everything in between.

EchoedSilence · 06/08/2025 21:02

It's a shame in order to keep her career she felt the need to look younger.

The majority of female celebrities do this.

Quite, because Hollywood (and even beyond) are shit to women of a 'certain age'.

Scorchio84 · 06/08/2025 21:05

I think she looks fine, I agree it must be so hard aging in Hollywood & that industry, I know I'd have a tweak here & there, the trick is not to throw the kitchen sink at it all in one go & it seems she hasn't

by coincidence I rewatched "Chicago" the other night & she totally deserved her Oscar
