There are so many wonderful examples of these, please share your favourites. Bonus points for links.

I remember one when OP was annoyed if the cost of children's birthday gifts weren't higher than the cost of hosting the party per child.

And the classic from a few weeks ago when OP thought it was ok to block the shared driveway and thought their neighbour who lived at the end was the unreasonable one.

I bet there are better ones out there though...

The one where the OP was going on a cruise (?) and her parents had invited and paid for her nephew to come too. The OP then realised she was pregnant and baby would have arrived by the time the holiday came around. She wanted her nephew uninvited to make way for the baby. But it was completely unnecessary. So many posters offered so many options for room sharing but OP was having none of it, she wanted her nephew uninvited. Weird.

Was it this one?

Thank you! I've only read a couple of pages, but surely this was a joke? Surely?

Just saw this bizarre one today.

OP actually called her doctor's office to set them straight, when it turns out was her own fault for slouching while being measured. 😄 I am enjoying picturing the expression on the face of the employee who answered that call and told OP she would look into it.

Height | Mumsnet

I've always been 5 foot 6. Today I was measured at a medical centre and they told me I was 5 foot 4. The last time I was measured was 5 years ago and...

There was a great one recently where a 'manager' had been told by all her staff that they felt she didn't care about them as people, just saw them as a resource, wasn't interested in anything but their output, wouldn't even take the time to engage them in conversation etc.

She confirmed that this was indeed the case and asked how she should deal with it.

From memory the options she'd landed on were putting the entire team on performance plans, sacking the 'ringleaders' who'd raised things with her to quell the rebellion, making everyone redundant or simply pretending to be nice to people...which she insisted was a non-starter because she wanted to be their boss, not their friend.

Unreal.

Yep this is batshit. The OP was furious that her husband's friend wanted £30 in costs to change her oil and is now claiming that her writing a promise of money on a piece of paper is exactly the same as a bank note 🤣

The promissory note had me hooting!
The OP kept saying ‘oh okay maybe I am being unreasonable, I’ll drop him a promissory note tomorrow’ and it was only about the after the 5th time she said it that a poster said ‘WTF are you on about promissory notes?!’

To then insist that they held the same power as bank notes was batshit. The poster who said ‘SO ARE YOU BACKED BY THE BANK OF ENGLAND THEN?’ had me hooting again.

TheaBrandt1 · 01/08/2025 08:21

That mechanic one is insane! She wanted to bill him for doing them a favour!!! Then then banging on about promissory notes! Either a troll or entirely deranged.

I saw that one. The OP looked like it had been written by ChatGPT and there were no other posts by the username.

I remember the thread where OP was struggling with the term ‘behind my back’ 😂 frazzled my brain! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/3006299-Aibu-to-think-this-doesnt-make-sense-behind-my-back?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

Thanks. My head hurts after reading that

I replied to that OP. Her arrogance was off the scale. She very much came across as a recent over promoted graduate (she did not confirm this) who was out of her depth.

Unsurprisingly, she didn’t like the replies and has flounced as she was told mostly she was being unreasonable and needs to change. She was also told how we can all sympathise with managing those who need to be managed out of an organisation,

There were well thought out suggestions, from people leaders, HR managers and individuals who have had managers just like her. A lot of which I have actually thought might be useful and will have a think about using.

Silver lining and all that.

I loved that one, it got really silly with posters saying why not all sleep in the kitchen etc and then they can have loads of spare rooms in case anyone got ill.

😂😂🤣🤣 I remember this one

SmurfnoffIce · 03/08/2025 16:34

Ooh, I’ve just remembered another one! The OP had decided it would be a good idea to send flowers, balloons and pizzas to her daughter‘s school on her 16th birthday because “I wanted her to feel special!”. She was incensed that the school had not immediately dispatched a runner to let her daughter know the pizzas had arrived, meaning they went cold, and that she was told to put the flowers in her locker, meaning no one would see her carrying them about and she wouldn’t get attention.

Almost everyone told her this was batshit and a complete waste of the school’s time. She not only dug her heels in, but told us all we were obviously terrible mothers who didn’t care about our children feeling special, and how much she pitied them 😆😆

Hollowvoice · 03/08/2025 18:18

I'd like to nominate the current civil service maths thread(s)
Not because OP is BU (she's correct) but just for the sheer level of batshittery

RimTimTagiDim · 04/08/2025 08:59

Thank you for posting, that is a gem. "It amazes me that so many people cannot see the danger of using a mobile phone while pushing a pram."

Gmala · 04/08/2025 09:28

I also just remembered the woman who was affronted that her friend asked her to go away on a bank holiday weekend. She said she semi regularly went away for a night or two with friends but thought it was very cheeky of her friend to ask her to go on a bank holiday because bank holidays are for family and she had children. She was incensed 😂

SmurfnoffIce · 04/08/2025 09:48

I had forgotten that one, @Gmala! It was insane! Not “My friend is upset that I won’t go away with her for the bank holiday” - incensed she would even ask! 🤣

ExercicenformedeZ · 04/08/2025 09:59

OMG that's gold. Thank you for the laugh!
